I don't mind the protocols, they are free to do that. I have 3 teen boys not vaccinated and need to cancel 2 cruises. I cannot even get through for the last 3 hours. I would say many are trying to cancel.

Get them vaccinated and then you won't have to cancel cruises.

as long as they don't say "we warned you, we had the chance".. holding out hope to ever use our $600 OBC from a cancelled 2020 cruise

Honestly I’m surprised they didn’t say that to the April and onward group.

There was no promise or guarantee that the restrictions would be lifted.

I have my travel agent finding out if they will change the refund policy if they change the definition of fully boosted.  If not, it's a chance we will have to decide if we want to take by 2/15

Please come back and let us know, this is the $5000 question for me. If there is no confirmation of the policy I will cancel my 4 cruises through April 2024 and start over when this is really, truly over. I use Easy Pay so all 4 have money paid on them and my April cruise is paid in full. I have worked my way through this past two years, our April 2020  family cruise was supposed to be our return to cruising after a 12 year break and the upcoming cruise should have been our third.

Requiring a booster is absolutely a bridge too far and one I will not cross. When are they going to acknowledge immunity, be it natural or from the vaccine, a simple blood test will confirm your status. I am not positive but I think I may have had a very mild case of Omicron in addition to the vaccines which accounts for my high levels. Doesn’t matter though, immunizations are to give you immunity and if you are already immune you don’t need another shot unless there is some brand new scientific explanation out there. Oh wait, there probably is, lol!

The Sip and Cover is only for the Casino Bar not all Bars

All guests, ages two and above, are required to wear masks at all times when indoors, except when eating or drinking or when in their own staterooms and when outdoors if in large gatherings and physical distancing cannot be maintained. As advised by health experts, guests are recommended to use higher-grade masks indoors (such as surgical or KN95) that have two or more layers, completely cover the nose and mouth, fit snugly against the sides of the face and have a nose wire.

CASINO

  • There is no smoking in the casino at all times.
  • Guests must wear a facemask and “sip and cover” when drinking their beverage.
  • Seats at gaming tables and slots are reserved for players only.
  • The casino bar is open but is a no-smoking area.
  • Smoking is not allowed anywhere on board during refueling.

I’m sitting in the SkyBox on the Valor where there are signs and crew reminding people to Sip and Cover, but tell me more.

We'll see where we are with COVID then obviously but if what happened in the UK happens here and Carnival is still enforcing restrictions that depresses bookings, shareholders will eventually run out of patience.

Plenty of people, myself included, are declining to sail right now not because of Carnival's restrictions, but because of concerns about contracting and spreading Covid. I will return to sailing only if case rates decline AND Carnival maintains appropriate safety protocols.

That's disappointing, especially the sip and cover. I wonder how long that will really last. Royal only extended theirs until mid-February (so far). Waiting to hear what others are going to do! I wonder who will move first....I've enjoyed my Carnival cruises but I'm not loyal to any cruise line.

Not that I'm aware of which is why I wondered who would move first (on reducing the sip and cover restrictions). I will likely go with that cruise line for my next cruise (hoping to take another cruise April/May). For me, the sip and cover is the most onerous of the restrictions.

What is sip and cover?

I can't recall the last time I saw someone eating soup walking around a moving cruise ship, but maybe they do things differently in CA. I have heard of people bragging they would simply walk around with a drink in hand to avoid masking. They reap what they sow.

you didnt answer the question. A human is less-transmittable of a disease while in the seated position vs standing?   And yes I am sure the reap what they sew: immunity to a weak and pointless disease to the majority of the population...

I just received 6 emails from Carnival notifying me of continuation of the protocols.  They are offering full refunds for people with cruises booked from April 2022 onwards, but only till February 15th, after which normal penalties apply.

Our cruise is at the end of April and we are not eligible for any refund. It actually says normal cancellation policies apply.

Where did you see that Carnival said if the CDC determines fully vaccinated includes a booster it will be required? I would think requiring an additional shot would be a major change to their protocols and the full refund policy would be in place for those that aren’t boosted after February 15th. Now, if the CDC adds the booster before that date and Carnival requires it I will have 4 cruises to cancel.

Sorry, I missed your question earlier.  It was from the protocols on their website.  The FB release had a link to it.  Here is the quoter:

Fully Vaccinated Guests

Vaccinated cruises are available for guests who have received their final dose of an approved COVID-19 vaccine at least 14 days prior to the sailing day (not counting embarkation day) and have proof of vaccination.

Additionally, the CDC has strongly recommended that individuals obtain a COVID-19 booster vaccination, when eligible. Should the CDC definition of fully vaccinated evolve to require the booster shot, our policy will adapt accordingly. It is also always possible that certain destinations could define a fully vaccinated guest as one who is current with a booster shot. Consequently, we also strongly encourage all guests who are eligible to get their booster vaccine at least seven days before boarding as this may become a condition for travel without prior notice. Please review the updated CDC recommendations on the CDC’s website Indicates external site which may or may not meet accessibility guidelines. Opens in a new window..

I took their statement to mean that people with cruises from April 2022 onwards have until February 15, 2022 to cancel for full refund.  After that normal cancellation policies apply.

I haven’t received any emails from Carnival and this is what the website says when we check - not that we want a refund! Hahaha

Has anyone been successful in canceling via the online portal for April? I'm looking to change a date and tried to cancel the current cruise I booked but I'm still getting the your cruise is scheduled to cruise, full penalties apply, when trying to cancel April cruise. I'd rather cancel and reebook online and not sit on hold for days. Maybe wait a few days for the system to catch up? Confusing.
