Hairdryers/curling irons now ok?

I’ve done lots of cruises pre-covid, and was under the impression that hairdryers and curling irons were not allowed.  Hmmm… just went browsing around the app’s health and safety pages, and found that now these are allowed; that only appliances are forbidden.  Is this true?

Curling irons, flat irons for hair and blow driers have always been allowed. Not allowed:

Prohibited Items:

  • Firearms & Ammunition, including realistic replicas.
  • Sharp Objects, including all knives and scissors. (Note: Personal grooming items such as safety razors are allowed. Scissors with blade length less than 4 inches are allowed.)
  • Illegal Drugs & Substances
  • CBD Oil / CBD Products
  • Candles, Incense, Coffee Makers, Clothes Irons, Travel Steamers & Hot Plates. (Items that generate heat or produce an open flame. This includes heating pads, clothing irons, hotplates, candles, incense and any other item that may create a fire hazard. NOTE: The only exception to this policy are curling irons and hair straighteners. Matches and normal lighteners are allowed onboard. However ""torch lighters"" and novelty lighters that look like guns are not allowed onboard. Torch lighters emit a powerful concentrated flame, and therefore are prohibited.
  • Hoverboards
  • Martial Arts, Self Defense, and Sports Gear, including handcuffs, pepper spray, night sticks.
  • Flammable Liquids and Explosives, including lighter fluid and fireworks.
  • Hookahs & Water Hookah Pipes.
  • HAM Radios
  • Baby Monitors
  • Electrical Extension Cords
  • Dangerous Chemicals, including bleach and paint.
  • Perishable Food & Meat Products
  • Alcoholic Beverages (Note: On boarding day, each stateroom may bring up to two 750 ml bottles of wine or champagne. Guests who purchase alcohol bottles onboard, in a port-of-call, or bring more than the two permitted bottles on boarding day, will have their items safely stored by the ship. These bottles will be returned on the last day onboard for enjoyment once home. Alcoholic beverages seized on embarkation day will not be returned.)

Edit: Just added the same list that Woldridge did so deleted it! No Irons. Just realize, you are in a locked-down huge ‘hotel’ that if it catches fire, you don’t leave and the fire has to be put out by the ‘occupants’. I lost more shipmates to onboard fires than in any war.

It states that curling irons and hair straighteners are an exception, meaning they are allowed.  I have been on quite a few cruises and always bring my curling iron--it's never been confiscated.

Neither of us said curling irons or hair straighteners were prohibited. My reference was to irons - clothing irons because that Always comes up on these type discussions. We both understood the meaning.

I have been on quite a few cruises, and always bring My curving iron to take care of the 6 hairs on top of my head!

We've been cruising since 1991 and my wife always brings her own hairdryer and curling iron. Our luggage has never ended up in the naughty room.

Ok.  I misunderstood you--I thought you were telling the OP not to bring her curling iron.

I'm glad you are taking care to make those 6 hairs curly 🤣

Thank you and since I said ‘irons’ and not ‘clothes irons’, it could easily misunderstood….my error really. And yes, when there are 6 of those babies up there, they have a mind of their own and need special attention……..such as shaving them off….but I just can’t bring myself to destroy the last of a breed!

Your impression was incorrect.  They have always been allowed

Just pack them in your carry on to avoid being called downstairs to have your bag inspected. Although they have ALWAYS been allowed, my wife had hers confiscated on Millenium and the chief of security refused to give it back. After a few well placed emails, the Captain and Hotel Director returned it to her a few hours later.

Returned what? What was confiscated?

How did you find their email addresses?
