Can we have a thread highlighting where Quarantine Cabins are on Princess Ships? (Helps picking rooms)

I understand the desire and arguably the need for a balcony cabin for isolation.  I don't disagree with Princess implementing isolation with this approach.  And there are many non-premium balcony category cabins on the ships. (BB -BE).  In fact on the Grand almost the entirety of the Aloha and Baja decks are non-premium balcony cabins.  There are much fewer premium cabins (B1-4) on a ship and their cost is even more than some categories of minisuites.

There are many threads about Princess cost cutting (elimination of or reduction of some loyalty benefits,  reduced hrs of certain facilities such as the international cafe, etc).  Most are accepting this as necessary for Princess to operate in today's climate.

So while Princess arguably should provide (and with which I agree) balcony cabins for use in isolation as a matter of the isolated individual's physical and mental health, I disagree that Princess should provide premium balconies, minisuites, and suites.  It doesn't make economic sense to give up this additional income, especially since the regular balcony category cabins provide the ability to go outside and even sit outside and eat.

I also would like to know where to book and believe the list you suggested is a great idea.

While we booked our cabin almost two years ago, I had been reading the threads, including rollcalls, and had been comforted by all the statements that on the Grand the Aloha deck was used for isolation. One person even posted they were in a wheelchair accessible Aloha deck balcony cabin and were moved to a Caribe deck wheelchair accessible balcony cabin (which is indeed an upgrade.).  So I was shocked when we were moved supposedly because our cabin was going to be used for isolation. (Although our notice did NOT make any reference to CDC guidelines).

We and our traveling buddies were moved and this was in NO WAY called an upgrade. We were move per CDC guidelines. The moves was horrible, definitely downgrades. We will most likely cancel due to the issues in Ukraine right now and St.Petersburg probably deleted as a port.

I sympathize with you.  So did your notice actually say the move was due to CDC guidelines or were you just told this by the Princess representative?

We booked almost two years ago to insure we got the cabin we wanted and that would meet all of our needs, even if it was a premium balcony cabin that cost more and didn't qualify for the complimentary upgrade promotion.  And because we booked so early, no one else had booked any of the four wheelchair accessible Caribe deck balcony cabins.

For Princess to call moves like you and I experienced an upgrade is a slap in the face.  They need to recognize when the move is in effect a downgrade and act accordingly.

Yes, it was in writing from Princess that it was per CDC guidelines. They were changing our cabin due to CDC. And we had booked quite a nice mid ship angled balcony! We were both moved to yucky tiny balconies, not close to each other.

We have a Dolphin BD extra large balcony on Enchanted for November that was lifted and shifted from Nov. 2021.  Should I be worried or do you think by then all this craziness will stop?

When we recently were moved from our large balcony cabin on Dolphin (Discovery Princess), to a mid ship Caribe cabinwith a tiny balcony, it said upgrade. Well really not ,as it had the small balcony and all the balcony cabins no matter where they are , are priced the same right now. However there was a big statement on the bottom of the notice that said CDC requirement. We were also thanked for our understanding . At the end of the statement it quoted that Princess has the right to change your cabin

and it totally quoted the Passenger contract which states their right. So thanking us and then telling us basically too bad, that is the rules.

I do understand but maybe we should have gotten a real upgrade then I would have been more understanding.I was going to upgrade ourselves and pay extra but the price quoted for our two week cruises was absolutely rediculous so we kept the cabin given us and will still love our cruise.

As far as Princess taking away suites. When they lock down a corridor in the aft, the suites at the end are now locked and  you can't get down the corridor. Do they use those for crew, who knows. How about when they are changing Captains. Bet he gets it.

I'm still a little relieved that my midship room (E421) on 2 different Royal class ships is safe (Enchanted Princess and Royal Princess). I hope. It's a rude wake-up when reassigned to a room one personally considers a downgrade  .... Princess' views and mine often disagree on rooms

I have read threads where someone posted they received a CDC guideline move/upgrade and while they could not go back to their original cabin, they were able to move to a more acceptable cabin than the one they were assigned.  Perhaps this might be something that you and also Sue might be able to do.

Ombud, I do hope that you don't have to move.  I agree that Princess views about rooms are often different than the passengers.

Our "upgrade" notice had no language whatsoever referencing CDC.  So I don't know if you should put the Grand Caribe deck on your chart or not.  We are mid-forward port, but I don't know how far an isolation block, if there is one, would extend.  Princess has had midship port balconies for sale even this week, with one only six cabins down with no fire doors in between.  And forward of us, my disabled family member's aide is still in an inside cabin only four cabins away from our original cabin.  In fact, many inside cabins are for sale all along the port side.

Also port side.  Appears to be forward cabins.

When you say forward, is this just forward of the forward elevators or the mid-ship elevators?

Our cruise is not till August --- hoping they don't need quarantine rooms by then!    Even so, our ship seems fairly well sold out --- none of these 50% full or less cruises folks are talking about now.  I can only imagine the number of move over offers they will need if they still need quarantine rooms!  (Assuming they have not already taken the quarantine rooms out of inventory).

Our move by Princess was from an inside Plaza to an inside Riviera.   It was done by a phone call with us being able to pick which room we desired.  Nothing was said about CDC requirements and there was no printed exchange.  We were told Plaza deck was being used for quarantine of staff.  I assumed it was new staff arriving to ship not necessarily positive Covid cases.  I would think an inside room would suffice for that purpose.  After a few days and another negative test their time would be over.  We have no problem with the inside cabin for 14 days.  It was a casino comp.  Pay port taxes only and got Princess Plus included...no brainer.

Our cruise is Aug 24 and as I said, we were moved from the Caribe deck, although we seem to be the only ones reporting a move from the Caribe deck.

Has anyone else been moved from the Caribe deck on the Grand?

I've been calling to see if we can another larger balcony (or at least some compensation) because we were moved from a large balcony room to a regular balcony room. There are 4 of us and really wanted to all be able to enjoy the Alaskan scenery together on the balcony.  I've been on hold for 5 HOURS now!  Is this their tactic lol.... Waiting for me to give up.  My phone battery has been drained!

Was just informed by Princess that our cabin on late May departure Discovery was changed ("upgraded") from Dolphin aft balcony to Caribe midship balcony due to quarantine area. So they are still doing that even for late May departures.

We lost our large balcony D701 to a normal balcony. 😑

On Discovery for end of May we were moved from Dolphin mid forward deluxe balcony to Rivera mini suite..nice!

Except it let me book a room and mark it "no upgrade."

well, we booked a room …one of our fav spots on Aloha at the very back and a month before we sailed we got moved. We also had no upgrade marked on our cabin so unfortunately it doesn’t mean much with all the stuff going on. I certainly hope it works out for you. I carefully pick our rooms and I was a little disappointed when we were moved….lucky we had a good PVP. She moved me up to Lido…also a good spot. Good luck! Hope you get your room😀

Call your TA or Princess and ask for a different cabin that you like better. We did that after the "per CDC" issue.

I think Princess Should do their best to give you a real Upgrade!

Yes balcony makes a difference, especially when you have 4 in a cabin!

Can you do a faux booking and see What locations are still available and Ask to

be moved to where You want?  I would also look at Balcony deluxe, etc. Just maybe...🤷‍♂️

I called this AM at 7:30, exactly when they opened, and still took over 90 mins to get thru!

Had been accumulating questions and changes, and cabin locations, so I was READY to

hit them with a slew of things to do.  I never call for one item, its a waste of time.

Its usually many things to be handled.

Good luck, hope you finally got thru.

Thank you!  I finally got through but the "best" they could do was offer me a forward Deluxe Balcony which I had to decline because I'm get motion sickness very easily.  I'm going to keep checking on prices and room availabilities.

We’re currently on the Enchanted, and you can’t choose deck 9 on the elevator so I assume that’s the quarantine deck.

Are they still limiting the number of people who can ride together on the elevators?

That would be a good question to ask in the thread (currently pinned) that @Ahoy Cruise Critic Alex is doing.

I though it best to ask about the Enchanted since it might be slightly different.

Either way we'll find out for ourselves shortly. I suspect there won't be any limitations for the elevators.

  • 2 weeks later...

Island Princess, November 2022, moved from Aft Emerald Deck which will be the isolation unit. We were booked in the last portside BE cabin for a wake view and easy access to the public aft deck. Not sure why they would  waste a public deck by putting it in the isolation ward where no one can use it.

This is a B2B but unfortunately different rooms....first leg is a true upgrade to an M1 so I'm not complaining, the other is a BB on Baja midship starboard. I may just call to switch the BB to something on the port side since the second leg is a transatlantic.
