Craziest thing happened on the cruise we’re currently on

We’ve been cruising for over 20 years and we’ve never had this happen before. We booked two balcony cabins next door to each other for us and our 2 daughters (both are in their twenties).  When we first arrived to drop our stuff off (we’re all Platinum) our cabins door was open and it was clean. But our daughters cabin next door was closed. We assumed they hadn’t cleaned the other room yet so we just left all of our stuff in our cabin & headed out to eat.
Later around 2:00 pm we came back and the cabin next door was still closed. We had already been to guest services to rearrange who was in what cabin because my husband and I had great casino offers so we booked one cabin under my name and one cabin under his name. But he and I wanted to be together and the girls wanted to be together. So Guest Services rearranged us in our cabins and printed new Sign & Sail cards for us. So we used our new cards to enter the closed cabin my daughters were assigned to. It was a complete mess and hadn’t been cleaned. To make matters worse, there were two large suitcases in the cabin. We panicked and got ahold of our cabin steward. He said the people staying in that cabin were doing a back to back cruise and would be continuing to use the cabin. Luckily for us, I had printed out everything on what cabins we were assigned to and that we had paid in full. Plus, Guest Services printed out new S&S cards for us so it was definitely our assigned cabin. So the cabin steward cleaned the cabin and removed the suitcases so my daughters could move in. I’m so glad it all worked out.

I later found out that the suitcases were packed and ready to go. The cruisers were on a back to back but needed to move to a different cabin for the second week of the cruise. So they left their suitcases in the cabin. But they never made things clear with the cabin steward. So the suitcases were just left there and the cabin steward didn’t clean the cabin because he thought they were staying.

My question for you is, is this normal? Are B2B cruisers supposed to leave their suitcases in their cabins for the cabin steward to move? It seems odd that they would leave their luggage in a room that needs to cleaned and prepared for new occupants. Or was the cabin steward supposed to know everything and handle it for them? I’m confused as this is a first for me. And I may do a B2B one day so I’d like to know the proper way to go about things.

I've been told over and over on these boards the steward will move your stuff to the next cabin. Never once have they actually moved my stuff. In fact I couldnt even find them on transfer day.

Carnival is exceptionally bad at handling b2bs where you have to move from my experiences. I know others had good experiences.. not me. To me this is typical carnival.

Our b2b on 2019 we switched rooms. We told our cabin steward the situation and he moved our luggage for us after everyone disembarked.

My guess is they told steward about b2b, but did not tell them they were switching cabins.

I agree. I think they told the steward they had a B2B but didn’t make it clear they were switching cabins. He was totally confused and insisted that the cabin was already occupied. I felt bad for him because he was scrambling to get the cabin ready for us. It was very stressful for all of us.

Yes it is normal.

Sometimes I have just sat in the cabin with my stuff and refused to move until someone came to move my stuff. The old and new cabin stewards sometimes point fingers at each other. This was pre-covid.

It was very stressful for everyone involved. He was confused and we were panicking. I wish everyone would do what you did and make sure they understood that the luggage needed to be moved. Our steward was racing to get the cabin ready at the last minute.

We touch base with the receiving steward near end of the cruise. So far, so good. Except once, several years ago. We checked back, just in time, when staying in same cabin, to see an assistant had thrown our toiletries into the waste can.😬

I've only been on one B2B and it was on Royal, but we just waited in our room until shortly before time to leave (to do the turnaround thing for immigration) and just took our suitcases to the new room before getting off the ship. Explained that we were doing a B2B and would just leave our stuff there. If memory serves, we could have left the suitcases in the room (think they even specified that we could leave clothes hanging in the closet, steward would get suitcases and clear out the closet for us), but we just took care of it ourselves.

When I have to change cabins I make it clear to the cabin steward and leave a note for him with 20 bucks on where to take my luggage.

I have been on several B2B’s where I had to change rooms, and I always moved my things myself.  I just feel better knowing everything is in the new room and there’s nothing to get lost.  I greatly prefer having the same room for both cruises, but sometimes it’s not possible.

That’s a great idea. Finding and communicating  with both stewards sounds like a great idea. Our poor steward was so frazzled.

Doesn't sound strange or crazy. More a communication gap between the passengers and the room steward. I suppose that can happen. And did in this case.

We’ve been cruising for over twenty years and have never walked into our assigned cabin with other peoples luggage in there. It definitely looked like someone was still living there too. It felt pretty odd and strange to us.
It was crazy because of the panic and chaos that ensued. The cabin steward, his helper, and  the luggage movers were all talking to each other at once. And they were all trying to be heard over each other. None of them knew what was going on either. We were distraught because we were being told there wasn’t a cabin available for our daughters. And we know ours is a two person cabin so they wouldn’t be allowed to stay with us. At this point we are thinking. Only two of the four of us will be allowed to go on the cruise.

They tell you to leave your luggage in the cabin and it'll be moved to the other cabin when you have different cabins when doing a B2B.

I've always reminded the cabin steward more than a few times and have even tagged my luggage with the new room number, because I know that the crew's busiest day is when pax are leaving/coming- they start super early in the morning and don't stop.

I question why the cabin hadn't been cleaned by 2:00 pm.  All cabins are normally cleaned by 1:30 pm.  Even if the steward thought the other couple was staying in the same cabin, it still should have been cleaned by 1:30 pm.

We had a b2b booked in January (which we canceled last minute due to Omy) ... but we had the same cabin for both legs.  Our big concern was.... what if we tested positive for Covid before the 2nd leg? (this was an ncl and we were told that we would have to get off the ship for terminal covid testing).  So, it kinda sucked, if we were doing a b2b, the purpose of getting the SAME cabin would be so we wouldn't have to pack....but apparently we would anyway...right??

I am so glad this is all amost over!!  (33 days til our next sailaway!!)

Carnival improved on that when they switched to testing on the last seaday of the first leg. They only got off the ship to test for a short period, now they test on the penultimate day of the first leg. People were carrying their valuables off the ship in case they tested positive.

Man I was gearing up for one heck of an epic crazy story....I was even hoping it was a generic thread where others shared the crazy things they saw on ship....this didn't quite hold up to my expectations...I was envisioning a massive fight at the pool, someone robbing the casino or catching someone making whoopie by the buffet...LOL.....

Not necessarily - they may have chosen evening cleaning as their once a day on the first leg, and the steward may have assumed the same schedule would apply for the second leg.
