Cheers 15 drink limit

It is amazing that nobody ever gets drunk.  I get the package to get drunk.🍺  Time to try new mixtures. I'm not driving.  Some people just do not understand.  Actually, I am impressed with all the ways to achieve 15 drinks.  I would like to cruise with you all.🍻  My first go to drink in the morning is the Bahama Mama.  My idea of breakfast juice.  15 is now the goal.  Cheers✌️

All this talk on 15 drinks a day reminds me of a joke my father had on his desk back in the 60s:

MEMO

TO:  All Employees

FROM: The Boss

I don't mind people having a bloody mary or mimosa at breakfast. A shot in the coffee at break is okay. 2-3 martinis at lunch is de rigor. A few beers after work with the gang helps morale.  A cocktail before relaxes you at the end of the long day.  A bottle of wine at dinner aids the digestion. And a nghtcap before bed helps you sleep.

But this sip, sip, sip all day long has got to stop!

We have had cheers I think 3 or 4 times now. Up until our last cruise we would hit maybe once a cruise. Our cruise last August on the Horizon we both hit it everyday. We were more then coherent and wouldn't say you would consider us drunks. We never begged and pleaded for extras though just meant it was time for bed. I realized when I got home what that really did to me. I think I put almost 20pds on and I was holding so much water it was hard to get my shoes on lol. It was worth it though.

We usually hit 12 -14. I have a spiked coffee after my regular, mimosa with breakfast, a few drinks by the pool, wine with dinner and a few at Alchemy. I have never been intoxicated on a cruise.  We do drink a bottle of water with every drink or two.

same here except I will also have a couple of the spiked milkshakes a day

We have never had to "count" or be concerned of the total amount of drinks we consume. NCL is unlimited. I can honestly say, we have never witnessed a slobbering drunk on a cruise. Sure, there are those that are buzzing and happy and you know they may have had a lot to drink (I myself am one of those, lol) So to be on vacation and counting your drinks? Crazy....

Lol.  It is funny how few admit to getting drunk.  I don't get very drunk on sea days.  But after a long day in port when I hit the dining room and the waiter acts shocked that it's my first of the day, I tend to go a little overboard.

One time our waiter essentially offered us a "wine tour" of his favorites, and we sat and had 7 each just during a very long (and awesome) dinner. I'll be the first to admit it was very difficult waddling out of the dining room that evening!

Some also think that the 15 drink limit is all drinks (soda, coffee, etc.).  It is not - it is only alcoholic drinks.  You can have all the soda, coffee, milkshakes, etc. you want.

This is how it is supposed to work. But...

My husband was denied a coke on a Carnival cruise after he supposedly hit his drink limit. The server was obviously in error. Hubby was playing a table game in the casino and had been playing for awhile. He had several drinks throughout the day (as a number of posters pointed out, it is not unheard of to reach the limit) -- late at night he asked for another Jack and water.

The waiter returned and said he had reached his limit. My husband, being a laid back kind of guy, said OK, no problem, just bring me a diet coke please. The waiter refused and said he could not serve my husband anything at all.

That was clearly not the policy, but it was late and my husband just blew it off. Went to bed.

Just saying, you need to understand the policy. If this happens to you, ask to speak to a bar manager. You should be able to get unlimited nonalcoholic beverages.

15 can be super easy and, if spread through the day, leave you barely tipsy.  You *can* extend your drinks by purchasing (outright, no using Cheers) anytime before your 15th and they won't count against you, but once you hit 15 (count is displayed on receipt from 10 on) they won't sell to you at all.

I would have never thought that drinking to the limit would elicit so many responses on so many threads. Different strokes for different folks, I guess. I drink until I'm satisfied. That's all.

That's hilarious-thanks for sharing!  I enjoy watching classic movies, and t.v. shows, from the 50's and 60's-I don't know how people got any work done, after those martini lunches!

Well, to be fair there is a 15 day a drink limit for non-Cheers holders as well. I have seen bartenders override this on the computer so I think bartenders still have some latitude to serve or not serve a customer based on how inebriated they appear- if they appear ok they can serve them, if they are sloppy drunk then they can refuse to serve them and cite the 15 drink limit as the reason. Takes the argument right out of the picture because it's "policy". 15 drinks spread evenly throughout the day isn't a problem. 15 drinks in a couple of hours is a different story.

This will be my 1st time without Cheers.  I am curious how they count a bucket of beers?  I do not want to buy if I will be charged for everyones?  I am sure we will rotate but could effect your totals for the day if you want other things?

Not to mention that there is more juice/mixer in almost every drink except beer! Not strong drinks at all!

I don't think that buckets are covered under Cheers, and I have no idea how they would count it.

I've hit 15 many times, mostly on sea days when we're a captive audience. But I'm a bit of a night owl and go on cruises to party, so your mileage may vary.

I really do wish CCL would eliminate it, as they are the only major cruise line with an automatic cutoff. An arbitrary cap that takes nothing into account (but numbers) make Carnival come off as cheap.  The bartenders can cut off guests who have been overserved, and it should be left to them in my opinion.

I don't think it is a big deal unless you are serious drinker or a very large man.  The only time I ever hit it was when I was purposefully trying to hit it because I had been sick two days before (on a 4 day cruise) and I felt like that was the only way to break even.  And then it was starting to feel like work.

Buckets are not covered but I have drinks on us in the Casino so I will be buying drinks during the day. Just concerned if we split a bucket I will be counted as having the whole thing. Buckets are one of the only way to save money on a la carte drinks except for Happy Hours.

One thing that should be kept in mind is not only # of drinks but over what time period.

For most men, 4 drinks in an hour will get you a DUI (0.08).  Big guys, maybe 5-6.  And it takes 2 glass of wine at dinner (just half the intake toward a  DUI) 6 hours to completely leave your system. Alcohol leaves your system at a 0.016% per hour.  So while spacing 15 drinks over say 12-15 hours might not have you feeling inebriated but those last 6 or so will be with you until well into the next morning.

So be aware out there.

Only alcoholic drinks count in the daily limit

"Sir I can't serve you because you look like you are too drunk". Argument ensues and possibly security has to get involved.

"Sir I can't serve you because you have reached the 15 drink limit. As much as I'd like to I can't violate policy". No argument ensues and while the customer may be miffed it will be at the cruise line.

Which conversation would you want to have if YOU were the bartender?🙂
