One thing that should be kept in mind is not only # of drinks but over what time period.

For most men, 4 drinks in an hour will get you a DUI (0.08).  Big guys, maybe 5-6.  And it takes 2 glass of wine at dinner (just half the intake toward a  DUI) 6 hours to completely leave your system. Alcohol leaves your system at a 0.016% per hour.  So while spacing 15 drinks over say 12-15 hours might not have you feeling inebriated but those last 6 or so will be with you until well into the next morning.

So be aware out there.

I've never had my BAC taken on a ship. I leave the driving to the crew. 🤣

"Sir I can't serve you because you look like you are too drunk". Argument ensues and possibly security has to get involved.

"Sir I can't serve you because you have reached the 15 drink limit. As much as I'd like to I can't violate policy". No argument ensues and while the customer may be miffed it will be at the cruise line.

Which conversation would you want to have if YOU were the bartender?🙂

Oh I have definitely seen customers argue with the bartender after reaching their 15 drink limit.

Buckets are not covered but I have drinks on us in the Casino so I will be buying drinks during the day. Just concerned if we split a bucket I will be counted as having the whole thing. Buckets are one of the only way to save money on a la carte drinks except for Happy Hours.

I can say 2 weeks ago on the Freedom I bought a bucket and none of them counted against my 15 limit with Cheers. Just paid the price for the bucket. Actually bought 2 buckets as 3 of us (2 with Cheers) were drinking together.

I am sure that they still try to, but it's harder to argue against a policy than it is someone's opinion that one has been overserved.

So as an average person who enjoys a couple of cocktails during the day, some wine with dinner and and a couple of drinks at the shows, is this a subject that's been beaten to death again and again?

I'll take it any day over "masks v no masks", "vax v non-vax'd" or "do you feel safe cursing" topics.

We've hit the limit on sea days.  It's sneaky how fast it can hit you if you start early!

In the morning we could have 2 mimosas, then around lunch time turn to a margarita, or two, or three.

Late afternoon a stop at the atrium bar for a nice martini and some violin music puts us at 6.

Now at dinnern(we eat early), we'll have a glass of wine... Ok two glasses.  And doesn't that chocolatini go perfect with dessert?  Now we are at 9.

Change clothes, head out to listen to some music and there's another two rounds.  Piano bar opens, head in there for some fun, and three drinks later you've nearly closed it down.  Now we are at 14.

Am I intoxicated enough to think the night club is a good idea?  Or maybe there's one last comedy show.  Would I like a nightcap?  Certainly!

Is the limit a problem?  Not for us.  But it's crazy how fast they go on sea days.

Exactly!

Do you feel safe cursing is a new one to me.

I'm so BOR-ING!

Between she and I, we've never had more than 2 maybe 3 drinks on any cruise

for the entire cruise!

Glad I am not driving the ship, don't want to get pulled over by the PoPo.

I hit it once last cruise. Started with an Irish Coffee at 0930. Generally just bouncing through the day. Wife and kids go to bed, I go back out to the casino at 9pm, go to Alchemy and told “that’s number 14.”

I didn’t even plan to have another drink at that point, but once I heard #14, I knew I had to hit the limit. For pride alone.

”and that’s number 15!” I said to the bartender ordering my next drink. He was not as impressed with my accomplishment as I was.

IMO.  you don't buy (or not buy) Cheers due to the 15 drink limit (which if you're hitting daily, you may nee to attend a few Friends of Bill sessions).

Holy shoot! Is that what 'Friends of Bill' is?! I was wondering who that mamma jamma was! Everytime I pass by the library after supper, they usually have some sort of private event thing. I figured it was just bougie old people playing bridge or something.

I’ve been reading this thread and so wanted to write something similar to this.  It’s bizarre to me to drink 15 drinks in a day, but even more bizarre to complain that it is not enough!

Relax, we are on Vacation, and just chill to the Island music.

I really do wish CCL would eliminate it, as they are the only major cruise line with an automatic cutoff.

Princess and HAL also have a 15 drink limit with their alcoholic beverage package.

One shot glass of booze usually holds 1 and 1/2 oz of liquor.

15 drinks with 15 shots of booze each equals 22 and 1/2 ozs. of liquor.

A fifth bottle of booze equals 25 and 1/2 ozs.

So anyone hitting the 15 drink limit may be close to imbibing a fifth bottle of booze a day.

If someone does that daily for a week long cruise, I'll guess that their liver enzymes would be out of whack and they would be feeling back and side pain from the overuse of their digestive organs, like stomach, kidney, pancreas and liver.
