Refundable OBC ...whats Princess problem ?

Princess screwed up with Internet provider and promised to refund $10 a dayfrom Princess Plus package  for recent Transatlantic crossing

Assured onboard cheque would be sent

Just how long does it take Princess to process this .?....since they knew well before the cruise even started there would be no internet but neglected to inform UK passengers only USA ones ....the very least they should have done was refund to credit cards immediately

We were on the Sky TA.....I pre-purchased internet and they refunded me the amount thru my OBC.  I quickly spent that and more and therefore did not require a refund on OBC.

Perhaps Princess credited your onboard account for the $10 a day but you spent it on your onboard account?

I was on the same TA as you.  As a Platinum or Elite I purchased the internet for $80.  I was refunded the $80 plus another $40 as "mednet loyalty discount" which they said was a goodwill gesture.   I printed a copy of the stateroom account mid-cruise showing this. When Princess sent me the final bill by email the $40 had disappeared.  I did use up by non-refundable OBC, but did not use up the refundable OBC. It said there was $8.96 refundable that was "referred to corporate finance."  I just filed a claim for this thru my Princess PCC.  She said if the amount is under $25 they credit your card and if over $25 they send a check.

That would be a change from my several experiences…for me if under $25 had to cash out at Guest Services & if more they mailed a check.

I had a problem with our refundable credit on Discovery ending 2 weeks ago. The evening before disembarking had $255 of refundable credit & the emailed final statement received the day after the cruise shows only $193 being referred to corporate finance. I’ve written their Customer Relations but if like so many others I’ve read about doubt if it will be corrected. It’s a relatively minor amount of money but I want to be treated fairly. By not supplying a printed final statement & removing the kiosks we don’t know if it’s correct until receiving an email…bad way to treat their guests!

Our friends also had the same problem. I was with them when we asked at Passenger services the last evening for a printout.I saw on mine that our spec. dining that night hadn't been charged yet, but knew the amount. I wanted to spend the remainder of what was left so I bought something in the gift shop.  Our friends just were wanting the refund for the refundableFCC but when they got the email  with final bill, also less showing. I believe she was going to write to Customer Relations.

Wish her good luck & that both of us are treated fairly.

Seems like there are more billing mistakes now but don’t want to stand in a long GS line to get a printed copy as proof when the app’s statement is correct. The image on a cell phone takes multiple screenshots to view a disjointed copy of the statement which doesn’t prove much. By not providing a final statement on the last night we don’t know if it’s accurate & needs to be corrected onboard. Think the odds of being corrected post cruise are slim which works in their favor when shortchanging passengers. 🥴

Anyone knows how long it usually takes to get the check for the refundable OBC?  My Regal Princess TA & Med. 28-day cruise finished on April 9, and I should have refundable credit of about $560 (all from the refundable Internet packages I bought for 28-days 4-device unlimited).   Thank you.

Already tried emailing and waited 40 mins on phone goung nowhere

As the credit is over $300 its not a small amount especially since the lack of internet we were not notified of means a  bill for a cruise we could have cancelled if we had been able to access the internet in time  .

Now we are stuck with the bill for a heavily changed itinery we simply dont want to do

Generally (pre-Covid)...2-6 weeks.

My advice is to never leave a dollar on the ship.  My friend, Tony (@Lucky TGO) , says his wife never lets that happen.  😉

Me, I visit the casino with any excess.  I'd rather leave the ship owing them a few dollars than the other way around.

Amen. It took us 8 months to receive refundable OBC from the Ruby Princess and Majestic Princess in late 2019 and early 2020. 8 months, and we had to send the documentation to Princess (complicated by the fact that the on board statements were in AUD). Never, ever again. We now spend every penny on board, which, of course, is exactly what Princess wants us all to do. I finish up what’s left at the Clinique counter, where I compare the price of everything I buy to online prices. I want to use the OBC, not throw it away on shoddy, overpriced items.

Luckily, my husband was quite taken with the Cook My Catch program in Alaska. We burned through quite a bit when he did that twice on B2B cruises.

We disembarked on January 22, 2022 from Sky Princess and had refundable OBC. We have not received it yet. I called Princess today and the lady told me I had to request the OBC??!!! Is this really what you have to do??  I have my statement and it says the refund has been sent to Corporate Finance.  We were on B2B cruises so it is not a small amount.

For us, the problem was Princess kept track of my wife's account separate from mine, which they did not do previously.  I had refundable OBC, she had non-refundable.  I thought we had spent enough to cover all non-refundable, but I had made the purchases, not her, so the cost went against my refundable OBC, leaving her non-refundable remaining at the end, and it of course just disappears.  I don't know if this is the way of the future or just a factor of sailing early in the restart and people not being aware of combining the OBCs into one room account, but we will be careful going forward to spend our complete balance.

Ouch!  That should never happen to a couple sailing together.

More misinformation from poorly trained Princess reps! 🙄

If $25 or less you must request a cash refund at Guest Services on the ship; if over $25 no request is necessary & have received a check on average about 4 weeks after the end of the cruise.

I don't understand waiting for a check for your refundable obc

We just take it in cash from the casino

Make an account

Cash out

Easy peasy

Will use that technique in the future…better than hoping they won’t screwup the final bill emailed to passengers & now reports of taking several months to get refund checks.

Hi Gregg,

I’ll tell you how good Margie was all my shipboard credits were gone by the time I got through filling out the health forms at the pier. My friend Ed told Margie one time what took you so long. 😳😁

With the faster Medallion check-in now, you might actually be able to get a first drink in hand before the OBC is gone.  You probably need one by then.  😁
