fstuff1 Posted May 10, 2022 #1 Share Posted May 10, 2022 (edited) (Single line) It's the same paytable not matter .25 all the way to $5 denomination. for Jacks for Better, it's a dismal 91.1% return (8.9% casino profit). 😮 For Deuces Wild, it's at 91.4% return (8.6% casino profit)! 😮 That's really horrible for VP. I've only seen these paytables in casinos located in some 3rd world countries. You know it's bad when betting a number on Roulette is better! (94.3% return or 5.7% casino profit) Now on multi-line VP, JoB is slightly better with 6/5 paytable which is 95% return and DW is 96% return. It is still garbage compared to NCL. (At $5 denom, you can get 99% return.) Edited May 10, 2022 by fstuff1

Covepointcruiser Posted May 10, 2022 #4 Share Posted May 10, 2022 It’s the passengers choice to gamble or not based on the odds. Many of us don’t spend a dollar in the ships or any casino. 12

WestLakeGirl Posted May 10, 2022 #9 Share Posted May 10, 2022 Let’s look at it from another perspective. You must have money to burn if you gamble on video poker odds which you know are not good 🤪

SHIP TRAVELER Posted May 10, 2022 #11 Share Posted May 10, 2022 I agree 100% with the OP. I consider the casino part of my on board entertainment. On our last Princes cruise there was three line 7/5 Bonus Poker for 10 cents. It was so fun to play and we broke about even. On our last X cruise, it actually felt like there were bad chips in the Video poker machines. I know they are not regulated but really no winners, in 14 days the two of us playing here and there every day, we only had five four of a kinds. No one was playing the long line of video poker machines. If video pokers rates are bad, the slots are always worse in same casino in my experience.
dkjretired Posted May 11, 2022 #12 Share Posted May 11, 2022 Highest level at Caesars, 7 Stars , so I play the casino although not poker, mostly slots. I rarely play slots if ever on Celebrity ships because they are a black hole. Perhaps if many don’t play it will change, sort of supply and demand.

Since better odds were identified on another game of chance, that is the place to play.... unless one enjoys being fleeced. I think the odds are in many of our favour as we generally do not gamble all that often and the return odds are of no consequence. Yet, methinks that you may want to write a guide to casino games on various ships... at $2 a download, I think the odds of making some money, are very good... bon voyage
Bo1953 Posted May 11, 2022 #15 Share Posted May 11, 2022 I must say, this post will spur me to drop a few shekels in the machines during our sailing in a few weeks.... Maybe I will be a winner and pay for a good portion of the sailing??? LOL I think not, yet if I do, I will report back and let everyone know... bon voyage
Janthere Posted May 11, 2022 #16 Share Posted May 11, 2022 Agreed the VP paytables are horrible as is the choice of games. I am not sure if it has always been this way on Celebrity? As someone who would spend a fair amount of time and money in the casino normally, it's just not very fun when you feel ripped off and have so small a chance of winning. I feel like the casino would be way busier with decent pay tables but that's just wishful thinking.

We love playing all ships have a craps table. now the question is do they have the dealers to man that table? post-restart, there have been reports on some ships that the craps table has been closed all cruise long because they dont have qualified craps dealers. (vacation, quarantined because close contact covid, etc) also post-restart, they lowered the odds. it used to be $10min 3/4/5x odds. now it's 2x odds unless you bet $25 passline/don't pass to get 3/4/5x odds. 😞 Edited May 11, 2022 by fstuff1
mfs2k Posted May 11, 2022 #22 Share Posted May 11, 2022 It’s well known the payout percentages on cruise ship slots are worse than land based casinos. No surprise the same is true on Video poker. There’s no casino control commission in the middle of an ocean.
WonderMan3 Posted May 11, 2022 #23 Share Posted May 11, 2022 Don’t like the odds then don’t play or find a cruise line that offers odds that meet your criteria. I go in to my cruise casino play (slots) knowing that they are on average tighter than at a land-based casino and manage my play accordingly. 2

As such, I would only play as much as usual and not worry about it, unless I won big! My limit is $100 in total, per sailing. For serious players and those in the club for them with reduced and no-charge sailings, it is quite different and I understand that... bon voyage
The_Big_M Posted May 11, 2022 #25 Share Posted May 11, 2022 (edited) The funny thing is a number of the returns above are better than normal. However, the only reason it then goes so bad is that the 2 pair payout has been halved from its normal payout of 2-10 to 1-5. Of course 2 pair is one of the most common paying outcomes, so that halving is a big hit, of 12%. Edited May 11, 2022 by The_Big_M
