Gregoryfo Posted May 12, 2022 #1 Share Posted May 12, 2022 I searched but did not see that this was discussed before. Looks like Carnival broke ground on a new cruise port in Grand Bahamas. Another article said Carnival purchased 369 aches which should give them plenty of room. https://www.travelpulse.com/news/cruise/carnival-breaks-ground-on-grand-bahama-island-cruise-port.html

Gregoryfo Posted May 13, 2022 Author #3 Share Posted May 13, 2022 And Nassau for that matter. Opps acres not aches. Just give me a pool and a beach and I am good.

vwrestler171 Posted May 13, 2022 #5 Share Posted May 13, 2022 Replace either Freeport or Nassau with the new port
mz-s Posted May 13, 2022 #6 Share Posted May 13, 2022 I remember hearing about this before COVID but nothing since. Good news! I expect it will replace Freeport. I really doubt anything will ever replace Nassau, especially once the new terminal there gets built.
Rare BlerkOne Posted May 13, 2022 #7 Share Posted May 13, 2022 Was just in Grand Bahama a couple of days ago, and yes, they have broken ground. The island is large and the new port will be miles from the existing one in Freeport. 2
Rare csoud68 Posted May 13, 2022 #8 Share Posted May 13, 2022 Never cared to go to Freeport but our bermuda cruise was relocated to the Bahamas and Freeport is a stop. This will be a nice addition.

The Carnival Corporation entered into a 50 year partnership with the Bahamian government and its Port Authority. No land was sold to Carnival Corporation. Tom About 10 years ago I heard a comic on a Carnival cruise say in his act that Carnival only stops at Freeport to make Nassau look good. 🙂

I suppose they'll stay there for the non-CCL ships that will presumably continue to call there. I doubt a CCL vessel will ever call at the existing port once this one is completed. I will be in Freeport later this year and look forward to seeing it again. Frankly I have thumbed my nose at Freeport and Nassau in the past - but after 2020 and being told I can't cruise I am once again kissing their soil!
Guest BasicSailor Posted May 13, 2022 #12 Share Posted May 13, 2022 It's actually old news that keeps popping up from time to time. Well, apparently not often enough 😴. It's just going to be another Carnival port. Been there, done that scenario.

Rare Saint Greg Posted May 13, 2022 #15 Share Posted May 13, 2022 Nice! I was wondering if they were going to move forward with that project post-covid. Unfortunately it doesn't sound like it's going to be ready in time for my spring 2024 cruise to Freeport.

pc_load_letter Posted May 13, 2022 #18 Share Posted May 13, 2022 I picked up some nice rum in Freeport but that was about the best of it. Saw the news about this new CCL port today on the CruiseRadio.net Cruise News vid. Happy for the people of the town to have new jobs and options for employment.
