Here we go again Lolol.

I’m retired.   I wear what I want.
I always get the guys saying man wish I could wear that.
But my wife would kill me. Lololol
but I do enjoy seeing others dress up.

Pic from my alaska cruise. Lol

I do not see what the issue is in understanding the guidelines posted by RCI.

It is not the type of dress attire that is suggested.  RCI lists three types of dress attire that should be worn for the designated evenings. They are not suggesting that there are three types of attire and you should pick the one you desire.  RCI lists (on the Compass and elsewhere) what the specific attire will be for the particular evening; they are not giving you the choice - at least not in the MDR.

What is being suggested? RCI is suggesting what should be worn during each of these designated evenings (and provide some examples), they provide this because obviously people are "confused" as to what to wear. If you don't like the word "suggested," one may replace it with "examples of."

Also, the guidelines (or FAQ, or rules, or laws, or whatever you want to call them) specifically state "Shorts are welcomed for breakfast and lunch."  Which really does not (or should not) need much interpretation.  If shorts are welcomed for breakfast and lunch - when do you think they will they not be welcomed?  If you answered dinner you are correct.

If RCI does not want to enforce their own guidance, that's their issue. I don't care, I am going to enjoy my meal.

If you want to interpret the rules in your own ways, again, I don't care, I again will be enjoying my meal.

If the waiter of Maitre' De wants to compliment someone's shorts - I still do not care (they will say anything for their tips), I am going to enjoy my meal.

However, it is not really difficult to understand the guidance, or what people are trying to do.

Reefs are a good flip flop as they have the support and other advantages

They are all I wear for a sandal/flip flop   And sketchers sneakers

Whenever I wear a flip flop the piece between my toes makes my arch cramp also.  I just don't wear them at all.  I've tried on several different brands.

Call it what you want.
On my cruise the week before covid shut down I wore it.
I walked up to a table of a few men in their military uniforms and families to thank them for their service. And one gentleman was a marine colonel and his wife. And his son who I think was a drill sergeant???

they both loved my tshirt and both said , man I wish I could wear that tonight.    But my wife would kill me.  Lolol.
so many guys complimented me on my attire. And had the same response

man my wife would kill me.
and yes I wore it for humor.   I have many shirts I wear that have funny statements.  I buy just for my vacation trips.
here’s a few of my newer t’s.

I have arthritis in both my feet from years and year on my feet at UPS and I find the reefs are the most comfortable ones to wear.  To a point.
after a while I have the same issues with that same piece.  Lolol.

This is what is actually on the website.  It says shorts are welcome for breakfast and lunch.

https://www.royalcaribbean.com/faq/questions/generic-onboard-dress-code

As the link says....the attire is SUGGESTED!  Nowhere do they say it's a requirement, outside of what they specifically state....

Main Dining Room/Specialty Dining Venues

Bare feet are not allowed at any time in any venue and tank tops are not permitted in the Main Dining Room or Specialty Dining venues for dinner.

Casino Dress Code

Shirt and shoes are always required. Cover-ups should be worn over bathing attire.

As for the rest, it never bothers me what someone else wears.  What they think of what I wear bothers me even less.

Love the logical fallacy of "because they say shorts are welcomed at lunch means they don't welcome shorts at dinner."

Royal has NO problem letting us know many things that are not allowed.  If they didn't want shorts at dinner, they'd say "no shorts at dinner", or they could add a simple word "shorts are ONLY welcomed at breakfast and lunch."

The truth is, there is another category between "welcomed" and "not welcomed".  It's called "we don't really care."

Exactly.   It’s very easy to change the text to No Shorts.
so until that changes shorts it is.   Lolol.

We have never been on Royal Caribbean and are wondering what is appropriate attire for formal and semi-formal nights.  Our group will include adults, teens, and younger kids, so would appreciate information for all age groups.

We will be doing an Alaska cruise.

Thanks in advance for your help.

... Masks for everyone for formal, semi-formal, and all other nights and occasions, what else?  They are required and sufficient enough.  As of March 10, 2020, the rest is optional on all cruise lines (and on land, too, for that matter).

In summary:  a) wear whatever you like, and whatever you feel is appropriate, and b) have what you know is appropriate in your cabin, and go change if what you ‘feel’ is appropriate didn’t pass muster.

I would love for one person to post the written “Code” of dress that actually say no shorts, etc. Not a “suggested” dress attire but a “code” that must be followed!

I have already posted it in post #21. Have you read the entire thread or just jumped in in the middle?

Blah blah blah.  No where does it say no shorts, so until they change that I’ll continue to wear shorts.
The head waiter actually complimented my formal night attire on my last cruise on Royal in feb.
so you can keep on with your keepin on.
it means squat.   But thanks for stopping by.

Where does it say no chain mail dresses? Geez, anyone with a halfway decent understanding of English understands when it says "shorts are welcome at breakfast and lunch" and doesn't say anything else then that means they are NOT welcome at dinner. Do you want to speak with my manager now Karen?

And yet you missed the line above that when it asks "What is the dress code". Or the other words in the sentence "But here are a few types of suggested attire you will see". This is surreal. I feel like I reading a Carnival thread. 🙄

I mean, it's only right there in English but ok. You do you, let everyone else do them. Done.

"Not welcome" and "not allowed" are not the same thing.

Nope. Responded to different posts. Only 1 was a double post by accident. If you don't like the frequency of my posts you can always take it up with the admin.

So what you are saying is all passengers need to be treated like 5 year olds instead of being treated like the adults they supposedly are. Got it.

I guess it's okay to take your chair while you're in the pool since there's no specific rule against that either, eh? Or just take some fries off your plate while you're eating, again because there is no specific rule forbidding that. Some people know they are wrong and still just don't care. You sound like a Carnival cruiser.

I love internet commandos.  I’d love to tell you what you sound like. But I’d get banned.  Again.

And again. If they don’t want shorts.  Put no shorts commando Ken.
