The thing I hate that others love: the pool deck along with all its group activities. There are just WAY too many people around the pool for me. You’ll find me in the Vibe or on my balcony or some other quiet space where there are no crowds

 

The thing I love that others hate: Dressing up for dinner! I love getting all dolled up and feeling like a million bucks, taking the time to pose with the ship photographers. Then having a swanky cocktail at a nice bar before having dinner at a specialty restaurant. It makes me feel like my husband and I are back to our pre-marriage dating days when your heart skipped a beat when you saw each other for the first time for the evening. Even now just typing about it makes me feel all dreamy

Things I dislike:  sitting poolside in the blazing sun, and probably 75-85% of the other passengers on the ship.

The thing I hate that others love: The casino in the middle of the ship. Just have never gotten into gambling, so to me it is a big waste of space (I know it is a big money-maker for the cruise line). Plus many of the ship designs are such that the smoke from the casino takes over a large part of the common areas of the ship. No judgement here on those who like the casino, and/or like smoking. They just aren't for me.

 

The thing I love that others hate: Dressing for dinner and having assigned dinner seating and wait staff. I know, we're all free to dress up if we choose to, and my DW and I actually do get dressy at least once a cruise. But I really miss sitting with the same people every night for dinner and getting to know the wait staff, and them getting to know us. The Haven dining room gives some amount of that - it is small enough that we get to know the staff and the other Haven guests. At the same time, I like the flexibility of Freestyle Dining - I just want everything! 🤪

Controversial Opinion:  i absolutely hate the look of some of the new cruise ships coming out now.     I'm sure they're all beautiful inside, but externally is what I'm talking about. 

 

Some examples:   The hideous upper structure (above the bridge) of NCL's Epic, which looks SO topheavy and ungainly.  The ugly stern sections of the RC Quantum class (look like a giant set of black teeth hanging off the back of those ships).   The weird narrow "hotel" structures on the sterns of the MSC Seaside and the Virgin ships.  That silly orange freight-elevator contraption (a bar) hanging off the starboard side of the already ugly Celebrity Edge. 

 

 But the thing I dislike most design-wise (and I know its all to improve performance, allegedly) is that new ugly looking reverse bow design,  like on the Prima and the Virgin (and other) ships.   That bow design makes  these ships look like giant locomotives in the water.   There's nothing prettier than the standard traditional cruise ship bow design (in my opinion)!

  **  Hang out in my room and read. It's why I book the largest room I can afford with the best balcony. I go to relax, not hang with other people I don't know. Basically I enjoy cruising for the quiet time while most people love all the activities and things to do. Quite often I won't even get off the ship at ports, especially if I've been there before.  I do enjoy the service in the Haven...being pampered is *so* wonderful on vacation and not something I have had most of my life.

--Bars and drinking (except for the very occasional Pina Colada, Mudslide or Lemon Drop Martini.)

--The pool deck

--"Caribbean" music

--Trivia and other cruise game shows 

--The majority of theatre shows (rarely go anymore)

--Any kind of attraction that is better left on land (IMO) such as racing cars, rock climbing walls, roller-coaster slides, laser tag, ice skating rinks, etc.)

--"Art" galleries / sales

-- Overpriced onboard jewelry stores

 

What do you love to do that everyone else doesn’t?

 

--The Haven

--Quiet time on the balcony or on an empty part of the deck.

--Butler service

--Being pampered

--Staying onboard on port days

--Massages 

--Reading or doing needlework on the balcony

--Binge-watching my fave TV shows eating popcorn the butler brought 

--Going to bed early & waking up in time to watch the sunrise.

Who doesn't love the Haven?  That just seems silly.  Just because folks can't or won't pay for it doesn't mean they hate it.  Sure, maybe one or two but certainly not "everyone else."  Will I ever set foot in the Haven?  Highly unlikely (unless DW and I are on a cruise with @complawyer and he invites us up for a tour/beer), but it doesn't mean I wouldn't take it for free. 😎

You probably should read this thread more carefully.  The question was what do you love TO DO that others don't?  There are several people on this thread who have already posted they don't love TO DO the Haven.  I know, words are tricky. 😉

Sure.  There are always one or two!  🤣  They're likely just folks who are jealous of those who can stay in the Haven.  Myself?  I'm sure I would enjoy it, but it's just like hotels.  Once I have a safe place with a big bed and nice bathroom, it's just diminishing returns after that.  I've seen all the Haven photos.  Are the rooms nicer than my cabin?  Yeah, kinda....  Are they nicer than where I live the rest of the year?  No.  They have a crappy couch that hurts my back.  They lack my stressless recliner.  They don't have my 75" TV with surround sound.  The bedroom is cramped and the fridge doesn't have my favorite beer.

 

I don't have a butler at home, but DW takes great care of me, and will even gently (or not so gently) wake me up in the morning without me having to leave a tip. 😎  I don't need to pay thousands of dollars on vacation to approach what I normally live with.  I just need that bed, safety and a decent shower (oh yeah, and the booze package🐀).  I get all of those in my cabin (very often an el cheapo inside). 🥳

Nobody says you have to stay in the Haven, relax. LOL You commented that I said people "hate" the Haven and I never said that so I just wanted to clarify.

🤣 You don't know me at all. I have an extremely hectic and stressful job where I deal with lots of people and chaos. My idea of a vacation is to go on full stop. (Not that I owe you an explanation .) Obviously yours isn't, but to each its own.  Frankly, I don't care what you do on vacation and you probably shouldn't care what I do either. (I've noticed you have alot of feedback on my posts lately. Maybe try and ignore me or better yet block me so I dont rile you up. 👍🏻)

Mine is that I NEVER sleep in on a cruise; I feel like you’re wasting precious vacation time sleeping in. I set my alarm for between 5:00-5:30 and start my day lol 

Wow!  Exact the same with me (you only specified your wake up time) - slight difference 6:30 am but withdrawn around 1-1:30 am!  I used to say - "Every hour counts", then gradually went to minute and now second.

 

Also I love sauna/steam/ice room/bath - 1.5 hours every day; 2 times, (sometimes 3) on sea days

 

I cannot stand lane dancing (the majority of other dances is my daily/nightly routine on cruises) and complaining (trying to avoid negativity by any means); butler service is not for me either (feels weird and constantly obligated to do something in return for a serving person).
