I go to the pool at sunrise when it's empty (see photo).

I never attend the ship's sail away party, usually held at the main pool.  I always find a place at the aft or forward end of the ship for this (see second photo).

That first part about going to the pool sounds like my DW. We were once on a cruise that was delayed returning because of a hurricane. The captain brought us somewhat closer so people could get cell phone reception to call home, TAs, and or airlines. DW was in the pool in the morning, and it looked like the ocean with waves. They closed it in the afternoon.

Things I hate that others love: Being pampered, made to feel “special” etc. most shows, spas, sitting by the pool, all that sort of stuff.

DW also hates having people wait on her especially in the dining room.

Boy...do I feel like a "tramp".  I'm out carousing all hours of the night, early a.m.  I sleep in, sometimes to mid morning.  I carouse, gamble, and have been known to wake with a headache on consecutive sea days.

But controversial?  I dunno.  What's controversial?  I don't smoke.  I don't leave plates in the hallway.  I don't try to flush forbidden materials.  I don't cut line.  I try not to be a sphincter.

Maybe when the GF and I cruise together and get "feisty" we might be a little "enthusiastic"?

Wow, you are a troublemaker!! BTW - I know you enjoyed yourself and I'm very glad you did on your cruise a couple weeks ago!

See, it's controversial, I got a rouse of you. 🙂 I've seen others battle with each other on Cruise Critic about waking up early/going to sleep early, and vice versa. It's not exactly Russia vs. Ukraine controversial, but I'm on a cruise...I don't want a lot of arguments when I'm on vacation.

Controversial: I think they should ban all smoking. I  also have zero interest in the Haven. Having a butler would make me so anxious I wouldn’t enjoy the cruise.

Something I love: The fitness center and any classes that are offered. I never get time at home to do exactly as I want so I like to do it on board.

The entertainment needs to be revamped , burn the the floor? Snooze fest unless your 70+, dueling pianos sounded like karaoke tryouts. Good, premium drink package Grey Goose and Patron included ohh yeah.

So that I can knowledgeably respond to the entertainment, I'm actually going to attempt to partake next month. Until then all I can do is respond based on what I've heard here, seen in reviews, and heard on Podcast reviews. NCL's music sounds like it was designed for those that are 60+.

I'm almost 40 and don't want to listen to the old music being played in Syd Norman's, Burn the Floor, or any of the venues. The only potentially acceptable live music may be karaoke as someone my age might sing a song I care about...you from the 2000's...

I tend to agree that it needs a refresh to some degree. The theatre shows are still okay, IMO. They've never entirely been my thing, but it's improved over the last few decades. But the rest of the ship? A bunch of the same period-cover tunes, with cheesy schtick over and over sucks. See my previous comment about disliking Beau Tehana. If he was able to do some original stuff, a broader mix of songs, or dropped the schtick, it would be great. I want authenticity, even if doing sets of covers.

But it's the Beatles...aren't they from like 1960? My mom wasn't even alive then...I can't imagine many cruisers were. Surely NCL could bring some actual, modern music onboard.

See - now I'm straying into the controversial! Hah

LOVE TO DO, but most don't:

Taking the stairs, despite the number of deck levels, time of day, or availability of elevators.  I need the exercise to offset the volume of food and drinks consumed.

CAN'T STAND, but everyone raves about...

Too much butler attention in the Haven.  We don't need snacks when food is otherwise everywhere.  We don't need anything special or are holding parties in our room.  Actually, I wish there was a Haven "opt-out of the Butler" option that would shave some cost from the Haven and save us from tipping them.  (Before you chime-in, I have nothing against the butlers themselves, they are doing their jobs and are working hard to support themselves and their families.  We tip them well despite how often we would like them to arrive or not).

Thank you for the chuckle.  But there are two of us still kicking around that continue to cruise.  Not all are afforded the gift of old age, so we are thankful to have made it to "old fart" stage.  NCL can certainly modernize to keep the youngsters entertained dancing the night away...if it is after 9PM, I'll either be on my balcony watching the night skies or asleep in my stateroom!   And if you think I am old (early 1950's), then I can't imagine what you think about my husband's mid 1930's birth date!  Time goes by very quickly, so make the most of what you are given!

I don't like Le Bistro.  Sad French food imitation.  People rave about their French onion soup that tastes like something you would get at Dennys.  I want to take those people to a real restaurant with real French Onion soup for them to see.

Oh I'm with you on the 9 PM bedtime!!!! Well, it's around 10 on the cruise since the thermal suite is open until then. I might be able to keep the eyes open until a bit later if there were entertainment offerings that appealed to me...I also don't like the bar scene, so I guess that's why we just settle in the room about 10 and pass out.

I'm certainly hoping to make it to "old fart" stage as well!

the beatles, elvis, sinatra, some music and some entertainers are timeless. the song "yesterday" has been covered over 2,000 times by various artists.

a great song is a great song, regardless of when it was 1st sung.

i believe that some of the ncl ships have "jersey boys"  as their broadway production show.

frankie valli is 81!

satisfaction by the rolling stones is still an alltime oldie-but goodie (it was also the #1 song when i graduated high school)

you are doing yourself a major disservice by dissing anything earlier than the 90's.

on the other hand, at my age, if i happen to watch the grammy's, or the american music awards, i have absolutely no idea who some of these people are, and rap/hip hop makes me cringe and run for cover.

i understand, adele will be performing at cesar's palace in las vegas next year.  we usually get comped for shows there, but even with a comp, i'll pass. if i heard one of her songs being played, im afraid (1) i wouldnt recognize it (2) i wouldnt know i t was her singing

Cagney's - The service and the food fleetwide was on a steady downward spiral pre-pandemic and has got worse post-pandemic.

Ugh... Not what I want to hear, I hope this is not the case when I cruise in November.

Totally with this, so bad two cruises ago that I can’t imagine us ever going there again on any NCL ship.

Ugh again.  Not looking good for Cagneys.

I also thought Cagney's was way overrated before the pandemic, and I quit eating there.  But gave it another try when cruising started back, and it has been excellent on the 3 ships I've been on since.

Maybe there's hope.  Regardless, I'll be eating there in November.

I hate this in land based restaurants too, it's so very tacky in my opinion.  Bring over a birthday cake if you must, but absolutely no singing.  (I'm pretty sure I've told the waiters on the ship "no signing" when they asked about something we were celebrating and they have always respected it)

That's too bad - dueling pianos is all about the entertainers and their personalities, how well they play off each other and the audience.  I like dueling pianos on land and sea - the one time I saw them on NCL (Getaway I think?) there were three entertainers and they were among the best we've seen anywhere.  Late in the evening, other cruise ship entertainers started joining them and it just got better.

That all being said, we've also walked out of more than a few dueling piano bars where after about 30 minutes it was clear it wasn't good and not likely to get any better.

Thing I hate that many love:  Hot tubs.  Hate them anywhere except a private residence.  In my opinion they are nothing more than heated petri dishes.

I love the fitness centers - early mornings when they open.  I workout daily and enjoy getting to try a different gym for free.

I'm pretty go with the flow when I am on a cruise, but the one thing I don't care for is when dining in a specialty restaurant and the photographer makes the rounds taking pictures & then sells the product later on to those around me who had their pictures taken.  Some people I am sure love this, but don't count me as one of them.  Any other time is fine, but not when I am enjoying dinner.  I'll add here that the photographers are always polite and do not ask us twice. I also don't go to the casino or drink Starbucks coffee!.

What do I like that others don't care for?   A quiet place just to get away from the noise  to have a quiet conversation or cocktail with my partner.

I agree so much.  I love RCL and NCL equally, but I hate that on RCL even when you have their my time dining you still need to watch the wait staff perform.  I have a cruise booked on the Anthem this winter and it makes me so uncomfortable and I'm already dreading this part.

My unpopular opinion seemed similar to some others -I like watching the sail away from the waterfront.  It's a lot less crowded and you can still enjoy the great view. I would do the observation lounge but I like being outside for the sailaway even when it is freezing.

I also don't love the shows -- I did love Six, but the rest I usually skip and just go to a bar and hang out.
