The Brat Pack and Legally Blonde - cancelled

Cagney's - The service and the food fleetwide was on a steady downward spiral pre-pandemic and has got worse post-pandemic.

OMG Cagneys. We went once, decided to use our dinner perk to see what everyone raved about, We were not impressed. I have had better steaks in the MDR, we did love the chocolate cake for dessert.

In four cruises, I've eaten at the buffet once. I just don't get why you'd choose a buffet over a sit-down restaurant when both are free and both are all you can eat.

we eat at the buffet maybe for breakfast every now and then for lunch. I completely dislike searching for a place to sit on. We love our sit down at the MDR to portion control.

I don't like Le Bistro.  Sad French food imitation.  People rave about their French onion soup that tastes like something you would get at Dennys.  I want to take those people to a real restaurant with real French Onion soup for them to see.

OMG, yes. i actually know how to make the best onion soup ever ( sorry for the lack of modesty) real onion soup is done with gruyere not mozarella,  I had onion soup  in Paris, and le bistro to me seems like is from a packet, onion soup does not use wonder bread  or croutons made from wonder bread 🙂

my most controversial opinion is that the ship never actually moves, nor does it travel to distant ports.

technology has become so sophisticated that they have built elaborate VR and AR simulations of all cruise ship activities enjoyed before the pandemic began. the "ocean water" surrounding the "ship" is recycled over and over, much like the water in a mall fountain. and NCL employs a team of actors, many of whom double as performers in the scripted shows, that meet all guests as they disembark onto a controlled soundstage. they're good, but this is why the "tourists" look the same from "port" to "port," right down to their slogan tee shirts. there is no port... and those aren't tourists. they are actors!

the so-called "chair hogs" don't exist, either. there is just one guy, running around at 5 or 6 in the morning, placing towels on all the chairs. those sunglasses and books are "props" left by previous guests.  the chair hog guy actually works for the laundry facility on ship and the whole program was designed to cut down on the laundering of towels. he uses the same towels over and over again, from day to day and cruise to cruise. guests who can't get a chair use fewer towels, so there are fewer to launder. the program must be wildly successful because it still continues to this day.

there is actually only one del sol tee shirt shop run by a guy named murray.  (no company, except maybe starbucks, could actually afford to expand that rapidly around the caribbean.) what you see when you "disembark" and visit "del sol" is a holographic recreation of the original shop in key west. same thing with diamonds international. there is just one store! (and those are not diamonds,  by the way, but brilliantly lit shards of glass.)

my second most controversial opinion is that the soap, shampoo and conditioner dispensers in your stateroom are the single largest source of disease transmission on the ship.

I’ve had the French Onion soup in Paris…. Hotel,  Las Vegas. 😁 at Mon Ami Gabi (the restaurant out front, facing the Bellagio), and they use Gruyère, and it was fantastic!!

Things Others Dislike: I love to wake up SUPER early - sometimes before 5am - to walk laps around the promenade and catch the sunrise.  I also pack games, including some big and heavy ones, so that we can hang out and play in the Great Outdoors area near the bar in the afternoons, or really any bar that isn't too crowded.

Controversial: I dislike the pool deck and avoid basking in the sun for more than a couple hours each day when I attempt to catch a tan and read on an upper deck. There are too many other things to enjoy! I also typically avoid all beaches and instead look for long tours where I can explore the most culture. I feel like you waste a day in a foreign country if you spend it on a beach or just in the immediate port area.

That they should have sections for smoking-permitted on balconies.    I completely understand nonsmokers not wanting to smell smoke coming from the balcony next to them, but if they just had one section of cabins together, say, on the rear of the ship that allowed balcony smoking, that  would be a nice thing.

But it's the Beatles...aren't they from like 1960? My mom wasn't even alive then...I can't imagine many cruisers were. Surely NCL could bring some actual, modern music onboard.

See - now I'm straying into the controversial! Hah

You might be interested to know that the Beatles didn't break up until 1970. They are still arguably the best band to ever exist, and there are lots of us fans who are still alive (and cruising). Some would say we are the ones with the money 🙂

Well then, I can't wait until it's 2050 or 2060, so I can tell everyone that One Direction is the best group to ever exist. Though I doubt we'll have the money 🙂

👏 👏 👏

Plus, the group that plays in the Cavern Club is really good.

Good music is good music, regardless if it’s Mozart or Nirvana!

The ban on smoking is not really about bothering other cruisers, it is a safety rule put in place by SOLIS.

I go to the pool at sunrise when it's empty (see photo).

I never attend the ship's sail away party, usually held at the main pool.  I always find a place at the aft or forward end of the ship for this (see second photo).

Agree about the pool cruise away parties…..way too crowded and there are other places on board that is way more conducive for sail away.

That's too bad - dueling pianos is all about the entertainers and their personalities, how well they play off each other and the audience.  I like dueling pianos on land and sea - the one time I saw them on NCL (Getaway I think?) there were three entertainers and they were among the best we've seen anywhere.  Late in the evening, other cruise ship entertainers started joining them and it just got better.

That all being said, we've also walked out of more than a few dueling piano bars where after about 30 minutes it was clear it wasn't good and not likely to get any better.

Same--the Getaway was the one time I really liked them, and that was when the Howl at the Moon partnership was fresh. The performers were almost land-based Howl quality, and yes, there was good interaction late at night with other entertainment crew members. My two cruises on the Escape, the piano bar sucked. Mediocre and yeah, after about 30 minutes left.

Now that's funny! One Direction? Fifty years from now they won't know who the heck they are/were.

They really are. We saw them on the Bliss right before Covid hit; they were the best part of the cruise.

Ah .. OK .. i learned something today.   Didn't realize this was a SOLAS thing that banned cabin/balcony smoking.    Seems odd that they'd still allow it at all out on the designated areas on deck and in the casino, t hen.     But wow thats some crazy looking damage on that ship .. yikes.

Yes! Just saw Paul McCartney play a couple months ago in Syracuse. It will go down as one of the best highlights of my life. The man is now over 80 and can still rock with the best of them. Played for over 3 hours and it was fabulous. It was a lot of fun seeing many distinguished "Gray Hairs" like myself wearing all their Beatles garb...but perhaps the best thing was seeing so many younger people there and just loving the music. My Granddaughter is perhaps a bigger Beatles fan than myself...their music will be appreciated and loved for countless generations to come!
