Sky Smoking

The casino is certainly a smokers paradise on the Sky.  I usually like to spend some time at the slots, but every time I got within 20 feet of the entrance on our cruise 2 weeks ago, I started coughing due to the stench coming from the casino (even in early morning - 6am).  The casino and surrounding areas smell of old smoke.  I think my asthma has become more sensitive over the last 3 years of semi-isolation.

It seems that the Enchanted Princess casino has a similar ventilation problem, just like the Sky. No matter what time of day we went there it was so bad we had to leave.

Sky Princess should have the same smoking areas as other Royal Class ships. There should be no difference on embarkation/disembarkation days except that the promenade deck patio may be closed or restricted to non smoking when the ship is docked. On embarkation/disembarkation days the ship normally takes on fuel and thus smoking would be restricted on the promenade patio.

Outside:

Promenade deck starboard aft patio area outside of the Vista Lounge. May be restricted at times.

Area all the way aft on the sun deck.

There may be a smoking area on the sun deck above the main lido pool.

Indoors:

Around half of the casino slots when playing. No smoking at table games or at the casino Bar.

Churchill's cigar lounge. This is the only location on the ship where cigar and pipe smoking are permitted.

Smoking in cabins and on balconies is not permitted.

Areas where passengers typically wait to disembark are non smoking areas.

The message I get is that casino players are Princess’s least valued guests. The choice to make the casino a smoking area speaks volumes

It’s a mistake. I like to gamble, but did none on my recent voyage. Having 1/2 smoking is ridiculous. One can smell it everywhere.

I got the message that smokers are more important to Princess than non-smokers. They care more about their profits than the comfort and health of those that wish to utilize the casino (or the crew that has to be there) thought out the day.

I'm going to return to the Enchanted shortly, but will definitely stay clear of the casino for sure. They obviously don't want my contribution.

I don't mind smelling it (except for cigars - those are nasty).   I just don't want my close to smell like cigarette smoke.   I think some smokers fail to realize what their clothes smell like.

In many ways smoking is just another form of gambling… roll those dice you smokers you.  Though I am really tired of Princess not dealing with this yet.  Set up smoking areas that isolate those wishing to die - sorry I mean smoke in peace.  Let all wishing to live life a bit further fill your coffers with (our) money!.  We’ll be around longer and you’ll make more in the long run.  Go ahead smokers… vent if you must, but in the end clean(er) air will prevail.

If they valued smokers they could allow smoking everywhere in the ships.

The smell is one problem, but the health risks associated with exposure to second hand smoke ( and third hand smoke too) is much more concerning to me

I go down around 9 or 10 am. Play my busks then leave. We can’t stand the smoke at all

They've done so down under. Any cruises out of Australia.. there's only smoking allowed on one part of the promonade deck on one side.. and an outdoor (but covered) small part of the top deck. No smoking inside anywhere. And nor would smokers expect it - you don't smoke inside when on shore! Everybody is happy.. works perfectly.. and there's no issue. It's such a no-brainer.. why don't they roll that out to the whole fleet?

I didn't intend on starting a smoking debate. I was mainly curious to know, from other smokers who have cruised on Sky Princess, where available areas are particularly on embarkation and debarkation days. But, thank you all for your input.

and to those who stuck to the script

You are right. The discussion veered far away from the answer to your question.  I am sorry to have been a part of that.

The dose makes the poison, as they say. It's doubtful a short-duration exposure would do anything more than just irritate you.

I'm not a fan of cigarette smoke but I have noticed the smoking section bar on cruise ships looks like it has a lot of fun. I should bum one and hang out with the cool kids!  😎

I was on several cruises this year, where there was no inside smoking.

Casinos were empty.  I tried, I really did, but whenever I wanted a smoke, I'd have to gather, coat up, elevator up and walk 1/3 of the ship, then reverse that to go back to gamble.  After the third time, I stopped gambling.  I only spent my casino credit.  I think I earned 20 points.

And once smoking was allowed in the casino on subsequent cruises, I earned an average of 7000 points.

'I' am the casino's target demographic.

There are no bars on the Sky Princess or any other Princess ship that allow smoking. On the Sky and other Royal Class ships smoking would be limited to areas mentioned in post no. 5. The same applies to other classes of Princess ships. No bars allow smoking. Exception is that there is usually a section of Skywalker's Nightclub on the Crown, Emerald and Ruby where smoking is permitted.

As mentioned, smoking areas on turn around days will be the same as other days except that the promenade deck area starboard aft may be closed. All terminals I have been in have not allowed smoking. Also note pipe and cigar smoking is restricted to the cigar lounge. You may wish to review the "official" policy shown here:

Huh. I though most ships had an aft smoking area, maybe near the aft pool, and there was a bar there. Maybe I'm wrong. I know HAL does that but no idea about Princess.

All ships should be non-smoking. There - I said it. I hate smoke. It's dirty and gross and unhealthy.

Here's an idea.  Buy your own ship, then you can make your own rules.

Until then, princess (and all cruise lines) have deemed smoking in specific sections is allowed.
