I’m curious what the specialty desserts will be, (I pass on dessert most nights), will be interesting to see how reserved seating is monitored in the theatre. There are going to be passengers on board with 4 different specialty packages, this will be interesting!

ChangeOrder Posted December 27, 2022 #4 Share Posted December 27, 2022 Watching this thread to see what comes of it. Honestly not sure if I'd rather have this, or my $100 credit. Maybe you gamble on the chance of a prize that makes it worthwhile? Wonder if I'll have to re-book the Best Sale Ever sailing I've just set up a week ago.
MsSoCalCruiser Posted December 27, 2022 #5 Share Posted December 27, 2022 How nice! Maybe this would also be a great Elite benefit too.
rj59 Posted December 28, 2022 #6 Share Posted December 28, 2022 I read a news release about the upgraded desserts earlier today. I was afraid they'd just charge for things like chocolate journeys, but they look like new desserts, with gelato and other things put into something impressive. Personally, with military and shareholder OBC, I usually skip Plus, especially with the elite minibar giving plenty of alcohol and cheap wifi. As a solo cruiser, I'm not seeing many of the solo discounts that have been common since re-opening. It's to be expected with people switching from buying up as much stuff as possible during lockdowns, to purchasing experiences and services now that society is open again, and the cruise CEOs have been explicit about finding ways to make the cost of cruising more equal to land/resort travel, and to shrink their significant debt and raise their dismal share prices. Fortunately for me/unfortunately for Princess, their experience is so good for someone without Plus, especially Elite, that it's difficult for me to justify upgrading. HAL and Celebrity are more direct about degrading the normal experience and encouraging upgrading to a package or to a higher one, but that just irritates me into obstinate refusal and makes me return to Princess, which I think offers the best standard cruise experience. 2
Potstech Posted December 28, 2022 #7 Share Posted December 28, 2022 I wonder if this applies to both passengers in the cabin if only one is a veteran?

Rare Coral Posted December 28, 2022 #9 Share Posted December 28, 2022 I got the same email but "as an educator". It does apply to both in the same cabin. There is fine print on this thread: 1

Do not drink that much...always pay gratuities and one of us uses Wifi but the extra princess plus has special desserts which we do not need, we go to the gym every day so do not need fitness classes, have had hundreds of photos taken in the past 40 plus cruises and really a juice bar is full of sugar so no need for that. so yes, princess plus is fine but the so called upgrade is not necessary.....we are not foodies so no need for specialty dining. I get it that we are probably in the minority for this but let's hope the OBC does not go away as almost all our cruises are gifted from the casino anyway. Enjoy!!!

Princess Plus does not come with specialty dining or photos. We also do not need fitness class , special desserts or juice but if each person had a few drinks a day plus free waters, sodas or coffee drinks the plus package really does pay for itself. Yes I know this thread is about paying for plus and getting premier but even without the premier add ins the plus package works for anyone who even has a few cocktails a day. We are also casino guests and almost always have several drinks there as well as beers for lunch , pre dinner cocktails and wine with dinner Edited December 29, 2022 by memoak

huskerdan25 Posted December 29, 2022 #16 Share Posted December 29, 2022 Hi everyone. I just booked our 13th cruise with Princess for next January 2024 and we booked the plus package and got the upgraded Premier package. We also got the military OBC so it looks like you don't lose that or it isn't a choice between getting the premier package upgrade or the military OBC. You get both. The one thing I am trying to find information on is the reserved theatre seating perk and how that works. Anyone have any idea? I'll keep searching and if I find the information, I'll let you know. I think being upgraded from the plus package to the premier package is a nice bonus for us veterans and much appreciated. We love the Princess product and the respect Princess extends to veterans. We are looking forward to cruising with Princess again since our last cruise with Princess was January 2020, just before the pandemic. Since then, we have only cruised once, this past July on Oceania to Alaska and we are cruising on the Celebrity Apex in a little over 3 weeks (our 5th Celebrity cruise) so finally returning to our favorite cruise line. 5
huskerdan25 Posted December 29, 2022 #17 Share Posted December 29, 2022 The more I think about it, no matter how they implement this reserved theatre seating perk, we always go early and sit just above the lower level as we enjoy viewing the shows from that vantage point so we wouldn't want to sit close to the stage to begin with so we don't really see this as a perk. Not complaining but doubt we'll use it. But the other upgrades are appreciated. We aren't big drinkers but having the premium beverage package means we might try some drinks we wouldn't consider otherwise. Not sure we will necessarily use the unlimited premium desserts, smoothies, etc since I am a type 2 diabetic but I might enjoy one a day 🙂 Excited to get back to Princess! It will be interesting to see if this updated perk will automatically be applied to existing “military-applicable” bookings, like the 7 cruises we have as we’re not sure if we have to refare our existing bookings to get this perk. I guess time will tell as it wouldn't be worth it for us to refare our existing bookings, as all of our category fares have gone up since we originally booked them.

A couple of questions. Are both of you former military or just one? If just one, were both upgraded to premier? Or just the service member? Thanks! Just a guess, of course, but I suspect those might be the very seats that will be reserved. They are obviously the most popular seats, with people arriving an hour ahead of time for production shows.

sawtooth Posted January 4, 2023 #25 Share Posted January 4, 2023 We just booked 2 cruises last week for December. Booked the plus package. Husband is veteran, received the OBC Nothing mentioned about premier package. I am not a veteran and wonder how this would work. Will put our TA on the case.
