LouChamp Posted January 15, 2023 #1 Share Posted January 15, 2023 Aloha. My first cruise with Royal Caribbean was on the Nordic Prince followed by countless others. I remember vividly the Sovereign of the Seas and curious my fellow cruise critic friends think of Royal Caribbean naming another vessel the Sovereign of the Seas. Also, curious if anyone has similar fond memories of past ships and experiences. How different years ago versus today. All the best!
matj2000 Posted January 15, 2023 #2 Share Posted January 15, 2023 (edited) The best ship names are all the old ones. At least the "Of The Seas" names. Sovereign, Majesty, Monarch, Legend. The newer names get worse at each new ship. HA has been reusing old ship names. Carnival started doing it also, Edited January 15, 2023 by matj2000
flamingos Posted January 15, 2023 #3 Share Posted January 15, 2023 I would love to have a new Sovereign! It was our first cruise in 1993. 1

The FIL learned to loft his golf shot high, to catch the wind, instead of going for distance on his drive. He won all the time. 🙂

Back few decades ago would see couple dozen Passengers carry on full set clubs/bag to also play on the Islands. Was a popular shore excursion on many Caribbean stops

George C Posted January 15, 2023 #12 Share Posted January 15, 2023 Sovereign was our first rccl ship in late 1980’s , also got engaged on that ship in 1990 . It was by far nicest ship I ever sailed on at that time and I had sailed on about a dozen at that time .
la_croisiere_s'amuse Posted January 16, 2023 #13 Share Posted January 16, 2023 I also have fond memories of the Sovereign. It was my first grand suite and I thought I'd hit the pinnacle of luxury. 😄
vegascruiser1 Posted January 16, 2023 #14 Share Posted January 16, 2023 Sovereign was my third cruise, we sailed her 1988, 1991, & 1996. All three cruises we stayed on the tween deck. I think it was deck 6 and didn’t go all the way through.
MCC retired Posted January 16, 2023 #15 Share Posted January 16, 2023 The Sovereign Class, the last of traditional RCI cruise ships before they became amusement parks @ sea. I am all for reusing ship names as other cruise lines do . 2 1
Rare GetToLivin Posted January 16, 2023 #16 Share Posted January 16, 2023 Sovereign was the very first cruise I took in my young 20's and I've been hooked ever since. I remember being absolutely enamored by how luxurious and excited-about-life the ship made me feel. I fell in love with the ocean and waking up somewhere new along the way. All these years later, each time I get on a ship, I get the exact same feeling.
