Discovery Casino and cigarette smoke

My cruise mate and I don’t smoke but would like to visit the casino on the Discovery.  How bad is the cigarette smoke/smell?

Bad and we've never been on that ship. Casinos are nothing but smoking lounges that at certain times allow gambling. I don't blame the smokers. it's all on Princess.

I was on it in November and it was bad in the smoking area but a little less in the non-smoking area.

I was on the Discovery in April & November and it was really bad both times. I only know this because I kept going through there to get to the Take Five Lounge, when I should’ve used the other entrance.

Bad.  Seems to permeate the non smoking side too.

So bad!  This is why we usually choose Celebrity cruises.  We just cannot take the smell of our hair and our clothes when we visit the casino-we smell like dirty ashtrays.  Do smokers even realize how bad they smell?  Of course, breathing in all those toxic fumes is not what anyone should  be exposed to, but it is what it is.

Was on Discovery last summer. Smoking was bad enough to make me keep my money. Should be all non smoking in casino area. One day hopefully PC will actually implement ns.

Yep! As long as they allow smoking, I won’t be gambling and that saves me money, so thank you Princess!

NOT the Discovery, but last week on the Crown, I asked the casino host about the smoking policy.  Smoking is allowed in the slot machine area on one side of the casino (I think it was the port side), but not at the table games and not on the other side of the casino. 

 

The smoke was not too bad except in the smoking area.  But I live in Vegas, where the smoke can get pretty bad.

A non-smoking area in a casino is about as effective as the non-smoking areas on airplanes before they went smoke free.

 

Princess casino smoke also migrates into the theater and the Piazza and affects non-smokers in those areas as well.

 

Change takes time, but Princess is behind the times.

I had to do a double take on this one.  Wouldn't it be nice if there WERE "windows" in the casino to exhaust the smoke.

I was on the Discovery Princess inaugural and also the second sailing.  The smoke was really bad. Usually it’s a no smoking night on formal night but they did not follow that policy. I think they no longer do that at all on any of the ships on formal nights.  I wish indoor ship areas would become no smoking like they were during the pandemic.

I was on the Discovery over Thanksgiving.  I dont smoke.  I didnt gamble.  I think, as others have said, the casino becomes an indoor smoking area.  Whether you gamble or not, you can light up, and people do.

I didnt find that the games offered were exciting enough for me.  In my experience on other ships, they dont offer fair odds, and they will have other, so called, "fun" versions of games that make the odds even worse!  (There is some blackjack version that removes all of the 10s!  Well, any card counter knows that is the worst time to play as the chances of the house busting are minimized.  While the players are less likely to bust, neither is the house!) 

Anyway, the games offered didnt excite me, and they often only had a few tables of any sort open at a time.  Seldom were/was the craps table open, and I didnt see what odds they were playing, or if the payouts were modified. 

 

The bottom line for me was that the smoke was definitely a drawback and not overcome by the games they offered.

Well... The smoking smell was abated somewhat by the air purifiers. It was abated even more by winning!!😁

I’m so happy that next month our cruise on Grand down under will not have smoking in the Casino.
I applaud Australia to have the balls to tell all cruise lines if they want to sail there then stop the insanity of indoor smoking. 
 

Now that’s a country who is looking out for the safety of their citizens !

Yes, on the Discovery I found the same to be true.  On the Enchanted I found enough ones I liked to play on the non smoking side but still you could smell the smoke at times over there.

We found that as well on the Majestic. However on the Royal and the Ruby we tried some machines we have never seen before and had a lot of fun with them plus we had some pretty good wins

Fun maybe...but we have found the payouts tend to be better on the smoking side....

On our last 2 cruises we cashed out over $2,000 between the 2 of us. Does that happen every cruise no but the chips used in machines are not really different from each other and with video poker machines the payouts are posted
