Costa Cruises, Aida Cruises, TUI Cruises, and Fred Olsen Cruise Line do allow guests to smoke on their cabin balconies. All other cruise lines have banned smoking on balconies.

Four cruise lines to avoid.  🤢

Been basically smoke free near our balcony on Voyager the last couple of weeks...luckily.  Though two days ago, I smelled it...saw the culprit and then saw him toss the lit ciggy butt off his balcony (which could have easily blown back into another balcony in the wind we had).  And of course adding litter and fire danger to his actions.  Sure...pollute our seas as well.  Crap head.

Two of us yelled at him...and of course he ignored us...as he did the rules.  Selfish.

Did you also notify guest services/security about the rules violation?

He was 2 decks and a few cabins down from us.  Impossible at that angle to figure out which cabin he was in.

Man I haven’t seen a good ole smoking on the balcony post in a long while! This use to be a couple of times a week back in the day. And the replies are a little bit tamer these days I see! 🙃

I think that everybody's grown weary of the topic, and has no more energy to debate it 😏

It is UNSAFE and a DANGER to all other cruisers if someone someone smokes on their balcony.  If you see it REPORT it and watch to see if any cruise staff react to it, if not report it AGAIN.  I have had to report this activity sometimes 3x before someone went and took care of it.   I do feel awful turning someone in for this BUT I would feel worse if it ended up in a fire and loss of lives!  Don't get me wrong, my hubby is a smoker BUT he always smokes only in designated smoking areas and if he did not I would report him......

I know and fully understand the policy and agree 100% with it. So, I am asking for a friend of my wifes, is smoking on the balcony allowed on other cruise lines. This person apparently was told by someone that it was ok to smoke on the balcony.

It is not.  And, we have reported 2 neighboring cabins who have done this, and security came down to talk to them.

Incorrect.  Smoking is allowed on balconies of some other cruise lines, which is what the OP asked about.

Interesting to add, the current trend is providing smokeless casinos as evidenced on the conversion of the Jazz Club spaces to smokeless casinos on the Oasis Class ships.

Smoking on board ships has been as old as the United States Navy. Imagine the safety hazard on an aged wooden hull.

Times are changing as the percentage of North Americans who smoke have decreased in the past twenty years and the amount of people vaping has significantly increased over the past five years.

If there is money to be made by smoking or not smoking, corporations will always find a way to profit.

I just wish we all could be courteous in our addictions.

😁

The problem with smoking as opposed to overdrinking or overeating is that the smoking is the only one that impacts others.

Not really true.. It is well documented that the health care costs associated with issues such as obesity and alcohol abuse in this country are shared by us all in the form of increased health care insurance costs across the board.

So,,, Royal really, really is clueless and does not get it. They need to take a lesson from NCL. On new NCL ships, the main casino, which is also the accessway for non-casino guests to other public facilities is non-smoking. the smaller casino (like the converted Jazz Clubs Golden Rooms) are the smoking casinos.

Your argument has no direct causality.  Spending more money to support these issues, along with heart disease, diabetes, those with disabilities, mental illness has never given me an asthma attack that requires extra medication and in one instance (cigar in an elevator,) a trip to the ED.

On the contrary.. The direct causality is clear: Obesity and alcohol abuse along with their associated health costs directly impacts me in the very real form of increased costs for my health insurance.

Their sister company, Celebrity, seems to be going in the other direction too. They currently don't allow indoor smoking at all,  but are doing a trial to allow vaping in the casinos.

The Celebrity board has several threads about it, most seem pretty upset.

Perhaps you should ask if the ban of smoking on balconies is enforced.

My neighbors on Wonder a few weeks ago were smoking some sort of combustable product on their balcony.  It had a very distinct scent.  Very interesting.
