NCL has separated the smoking section of their casino (with walls and doors) from the non-smoking section on some ships and then they have an enclosed cigar lounge but it isn't perfect as smoke still escapes those rooms (at least on the ship I was most recently on).

Also, my understanding is that Australia has stricter smoking laws and so many cruises in Australia do not allow smoking in the casino.

Am  correct that those non-smoking casino ships on HAL are their older ships?

Yes, that's right.  They allow smoking in the casinos in their newest ships (unfortunately, IMO).

Nieuw Amsterdam and Eurodam are most comparable to Celebrity M-Class, but they're the same age as S-Class.  The others are a little smaller and a little older.

Azamara.  But they have a smoking corner on the pool deck near the pool bar that I had to walk by to get to the closest rest room from my pool lounger.

Two options to avoid that smoke - exit on the other side of the Pool Bar, or walk to the other end of the Pool Deck to the facilities outside Windows Cafe.

Royal casinos tend to be the "smoke hole" when the casinos are not even open for gambling. And on Freedom class ships the smoke rolls out from each end to contaminate the Schooner Bar and Boleros. At least that was true last time I sailed in May, 2018. And thanks all for the info.

There was a separate casino on Harmony of the Seas that was non-smoking, but it was quite small. They had converted their former jazz club into a non-smoking casino. The main casino was still a smoking casino. I much preferred NCL on the Prima and how no smoking was allowed at all. I didn't smell smoke there, and I'm very sensitive to it.

I didn't spend any time in the casino on the Prima but smoking was a huge issue at the Metropolitan Bar (which had great drinks so I wish I had been able to spend more time there).  The Cigar Lounge is right next to that bar and there is not a good seal or maybe the doors just open too often.

@poffles The casino on the Prima does allow smoking, it's just in a separate fully enclosed room.

I was looking into this since this post and that is what I was finding so I was a bit confused.  So it is basically the same as some of their other newer ships.

Thanks.

I was just on the Zaandam, an older HAL ship and there was smoking in the casino.  It may have been in a non walled off section because it permeated the casino.

Apparently on Virgin ships, there is a designated smoking room adjacent to the casino. There's no smoking in the main casino. Also, the demographic of Virgin cruisers is most likely to use vapes in the smoking areas rather than ciggys.

When we were on Valiant Lady earlier this year, we played an hour or two in the casino each day and never had any problems with smoke drifting in from that smoking area.

Oh, I didn't see that separate room in the Prima casino. My mistake. I did discover what you did. @prmssk about the Metropolitan bar. The smoke from the cigar lounge leaks out every time someone opens the door and you can smell it in the Metropolitan bar, so we didn't spend any time there. It was a really strong smell.

Yes, I didn't mean that they only allow smoking in the new ships.  You have to look at their list to know.  Just lamenting that they do allow smoking in their new ships.  I like HAL a great deal but indoor smoking is a big negative that is hard for me to overlook.
