It’s an experiment for 8 weeks that will hopefully fail and not make it to Policy. But if it does it won’t make me stop sailing Celebrity. So not happy with it but it’s not a deal breaker for us.

The problem is that I see it as a slippery slope. Experiment with casino now and then allow in other  public areas. Very disappointing experiment which is not even needed.

I'm starting to regret booking my first Celebrity cruise. I Had been really excited about it all but have a sinking feeling I'm not going to enjoy it if these boards are anything to go by. I Think I'll steer clear of them in future.

dw7 - I recommend that you not worry about that "sinking feeling" as you will thoroughly enjoy your sailing despite these few issues...

Many of us here, understand that currently, vaping is confined to the casino, yet we want to get it contained before it gets out of hand to other venues aboard... (we all know someone who is all about them and what they want because Mgmt said it was okay in one place, why not others???)

Since it is currently "confined" to the casino, it is paramount to stop it as it could go further if the test is successful... for me, it is a goal to make it not successful as I do go into the casino at least daily for 30 - 45 minutes especially after the shows are over...

Of all the battles I did not participate in, this one I Am and have...

Agree Bo.  I just sent email.  We would move back to DCL permanently.  Just got off the Wonder in Alaska.  Great time.

Nopeity nope nope to vaping.  The smell of the vapor due to the "flavor" used is awful, and nauseating.  I don't like being in anyone's vapor even when I'm outside.

On a Celebrity cruise transfer bus I "caught" a woman vaping on the bus. I was sitting behind her, and clearly saw her try to duck down, and then slowly blow out her vapor.  I very loudly called her out about "smoking" on the bus.  She told me I didn't see anything, and didn't know what I was talking about.  I was so surprised that no on else, let alone the driver said anything.  ALSO  as a former smoker, I understand the addiction is a real thing, but you can't go on a 20min bus ride without needing your fix?!?

I don't go into the casino often, but vaping in there would definitely not make me want to in the future.  I do not know what they are thinking to allow any vaping when smoking is not allowed.  I do wonder how many people already vape in their cabins.

br - I Am not in a 'quick' position to change cruise lines as my spouse loves X and too heck with their policies...

So, I cannot jump ship so quickly BUT I can rally against policies which make it uncomfortable for me to be there...

Besides no other line really sounds appealing in terms of passengers to us... besides, most of the staff know us when we board... LOL I try to be incognito, but then there is that one issue which reeks of seeking out the Hotel Director or F&B Director and viola, major issues are rectified in those areas...

I say this tongue-in-cheek, but I actually am wondering if there might someone high up in X who vapes/smokes?  What the heck, this is absolutely stupid!

Heck, I'm not saying it tongue-in-cheek!  We seem to think alike...I have been thinking the very same thing!

I ve sent an email about this as well.  Asthmatic. Don’t need this crap. and seeing how dress codes people are trying to resist, you just know, vaping wont be restricted to just casino then smokers will push back

Whoever is coming up with these ideas?????

If management is trying to win the 20- 30 - 40 crowd, they need better market research.   Many 30-40’s want an all inclusive resort, airfare in.   Or, fly and do Air B and B.  Even in our family we ve had this discussion.  Cruising, for 4/5, do not want.  The bread and butter comes from “older” generations.

Bo, understand, wife does a lot of solo DCL.  Noticed Captain Kate Instagram videos lately, maybe they should have her do a casino vaping one. 😂 My stab at humor. 😃

Thank you for your considered response Bo. I Also believe that it shouldn’t be a ship wide thing and should be allowed with clear rules that would be easy to enforce. The suppositions on this thread have been just ridiculous. People have twisted what I have said beyond recognition. I’d just like to reiterate the point that I believe that smoking or using a larger volume vape that encroaches upon anybody else’s space is an absolute no no for me. Using a vape that by the time I exhale has been completely absorbed by my lungs may be a miracle to some but that is what lungs do. It is simple science. Also, every single case of popcorn lung that has been diagnosed has been a consequence of a certain type of vape that is certainly not what I use or legal in most of the world. My simple statements have resulted in me being ridiculed and accused of lying. There are an awful lot of people spouting facts that aren’t actually correct. The saddest part of all of this is the lack of ability of people capable of engaging in a debate. I stand by the statement made by public health England that vaping is at least 95% less harmful than smoking and I am truly grateful that I am 5 years free of smoking, purely because I found a vape that worked for me. I Do not in any way condone the use of vapes that exhale volumes of vapour that would encroach on any bodies space or smoking in any enclosed area. I Never try to bend rules. I Just want to live and let live. Whilst I don’t bother anybody else I also don’t want to be bothered. I am not lying to myself as I know I never exhale any vapour whilst close to anybody else. I’m so disappointed by the vitriol exhibited on this forum and have now switched from being so very excited about my first Celebrity cruise to dreading the thought of the people that I will be trapped on a ship with.

We don’t frequent the casino but I too will be voicing my concerns to Celebrity on this policy change trial.  It’s only a matter of time till they then open it up to other indoor areas.  The “aromas” and the vapours are unpleasant and only a vaper or a smoker would say they are negligible, let alone harmless.

sorry you feel the way you do.  Perhaps a thought to contemplate. Smokers dont realize they “smell” of smoke no matter how hard they try to cover it.   Denial  Because they are accustomed to it. It permeates your clothes, hair and breath.  Papers too pick up the smell.   Our son vaped.    He didnt think anyone could detect. BUT, being non smokers we could smell it.

And FYI, it doesn’t matter how long you keep the smoke in, or how little you think you are exhaling, it is delusional to think what you exhale doesnt smell like smoke, even mild. And, it doesn’t dissipate quickly.

Good for you for being cigarette free, but vaping is not healthy

Sent my email yesterday. I expressed that we may need to move to Virgin, who seems to enforce their smoking/vaping rules pretty strictly. I am allergic to cigarette smoke. Not sure about vaping smoke, since I haven't been exposed to it as much. I live in a fairly smoke free city. I have read that some people are allergic to the vape smoke, because some of it contains the same chemicals as fog machines. I have a good friend that is allergic to fog machines.

I got a call from celebrity after I sent an e mail to executive office.  I expressed our displeasure with the vape concept. I also said since we book suites I can find a different cruise line that curtails smoking for that kind of money

It appears that Virgin strictly enforces their smoking/vaping rules.

We were on the June 5 cruise. It was amazing! We like DCL, but Celebrity is a better option for us when our son doesn't go and has better pricing and perks for suites. We will probably still do DCL some after our son goes off to college next year, since we still have friends who only cruise DCL. Love that there is no casino and very little smoking on DCL though.

Do all of you “we book suites and if we don’t get our own way we’ll go elsewhere” people have any idea how Karen you sound?

You miss the point. People are spending a fair bit of money to holiday, be it suite, Aqua, whatever.  If I m spending money, i dont want to have to hold my breath and run to get past smoke of any kind, or smell, to we who do not vape or smoke, find vile/unpleasant

Mayhaps you should follow your own advice you posted a few posts ago??

To consider losing your deposit because of posts here is just plain childish...you're projecting that the whole ship will be full of this very, very small sampling of passengers that post here? Get a grip.

No offense, but this isn't about "I'm not getting my way. I'm going somewhere else." for some people. Some of us are extremely allergic to this stuff or have other health issues that are affected by smoking/vaping. If you booked a cruise thinking there would be none of this inside, and then suddenly, you get on the ship and it's there, it could be a serious health issue. It's one thing to book something knowing that it's allowed in the casino and/or on balconies and then to complain. It's another for such a serious change without previous notification. It's not like they changed a dish in the dining room. It also would be unacceptable for this to become a random policy, where you don't know if your cruise will have inside smoking/vaping or not.

I usually try not to engage, but I say, "Call me Karen all you want, brother."

Suite prices notwithstanding, if phone calls, emails and comment cards don't get the point across, how else do customers voice displeasure to a company other than spending their money elsewhere!
