If you have seen me here for the last year, this would come as no surprise. 

 

We leave tomorrow, and DH comes down with "something ".  He's gone upstairs to take a Covid test.   Let's pretend for a minute that it's positive (keeping in mind I have no reason to think it is, but my mind is all over).

 

What happens if a primary cruiser (out of 4 in the Cabin) is a no show?...this is as opposed to the two 13 yr olds listed as #3, #4 in the cabin. Does it matter who the no show is?

 

Thoughts on if Covid is a covered reason to cancel using RCCL insurance? 

 

If it were you (as me) and he's positive, do you take the kids? Do you all go? Do you cancel?

First, I don't get your first statement.  Second, it doesn't matter who cancels as long as one out of the original people on the reservation stays the same.  Although I'm not sure how a minor enters into that.  As long as #2 shows, then it doesn't matter.  You can read the insurance info online.  DH and I never cruise separately, but that is entirely your choice.  Why are you asking what your family should do?  It's entirely up to you.

Because neither of us want to be the bad guy. #4 is dd friend....  not family.

If husband is positive, you may end up positive during your cruise.

First, one of the things I say all the time is, "Don't bleed until you get shot".  In this case that means, don't assume Covid until you see that pink line on the test.  My daughter and I are both sick with sore throats and head colds right now -- we took Covid tests together two days ago.  NOTHING.  Just colds.  We've all become accustomed to thinking The Worst.  

 

If he's able to go, you should pack plenty of OTC meds -- enough for everyone, given the way colds are transferred within families.

Because after years of pushing it back, I got covid less than a week before leaving on a big cruise.  We had to cancel and ended up booking Oasis for the first time for 3 weeks later.

So it's been 45 minutes, his Covid test should have given you results by now.  If he's positive, check your insurance fine print to see if you have that coverage.  Secondly, you have been exposed and in very close contact.  You could be positive sooner than later.  They will ask you questions during the health check that would require you to lie if you want to board the ship.  Your fellow cruisers would probaby appreciate not being exposed.

If he cannot go, the only time you would have a problem is if you were booked on a casino offer that is in his name.  If he does not sail, they may rescind the offer and make the rest of you pay the regular fare.

So, you were assuming everyone remembered that?  That's why I asked as it didn't make any sense to me.

I know a lot of people who never caught it when others in their household had it.  DH and I never had it, at least nothing to test for.  We don't even have any tests anymore.   We see no reason to.

No it does not matter.  Really there is no such thing as a primary passenger, it makes no difference who is listed first

I wasn't assuming anything.  A few people from here have brought it up since then...    I was just telling a story then answering your question.

I meant your original post as in #1 on this thread.  You posted the first sentence like everyone should know.

 

So, did he test or didn't he?

Just got back from a cruise tour to Alaska.  Several people were coughing from the first bus ride.  I had cold symptoms on the ship.  Minor cold symptoms.  Stuffy nose, scratchy throat 2 days, slightly achy one day, no fever, no coughing. I took a couple of Tylenol and went on with my day.  I tested slightly positive at home.  I only tested because I was seeing grandchildren right away.  Slightly positive probably means I was at the end of it. DH is still negative and was exposed to me and whoever I got it from.

 

It’s everywhere you’re in close quarters with people.  We are going to have to live with it.  At least one person coughing on the bus sounded awful to be honest. I had minor cold symptoms. So it hits everyone with some difference. I’m not suggesting someone who knows they are positive go on their cruise.  I am saying you may have it or get it and not know it.

By recently I meant within the last two months. I think (hope) COVID will become more like a flu. Not the best scenario since the flu kills thousands of people every year, but light years away from when so many things were closed/shutdown for a long time.

Insurance covers COVID the same way it covers any other acute illness. You’ll have to provide proof of a positive test and possibly a doctor’s statement.

It's still going around. Mt dh starting feeling blah the day after we got home (10 night cruise). He has hydration issues so I took to be that since we were at a t-ball game. Looking at our sailing fb group, a lot of people were reporting being positive. We ended up testing positive also. One lady said she started feeling ill the second day of the cruise and then tested positive. My idea is she brought it onboard and spread it to a lot of people.

It already is more like a mild flu or cold.

It will never STOP going around.  Just like the flu.
