Have cruisers settled down?

We went on the Getaway in February and pulling into one of the ports next to a Royal Caribbean ship people lined

up and as soon as we were even with them started shouting Royal Caribbean sucks!! Not to be outdone,

hearing that people on the Royal Caribbean ship rushed over to the railings and proceeded to yell

Norwegian sucks!  It was like we were at a football game with very drunk patrons. To be fair when we pulled along

side a Disney ship people were admiring it. Go figure

Talking to some of the people later who were yelling it was their first real vacation since Covid and they wanted

to really live it up. I hope all that pent up energy has died down. What have you found?

My two trips in Alaska had absolutely none of this. There was some fun back and forth between whale watching boats when one boat had whales right there but nothing on the cruise or about the cruise line. I think itinerary would affect this type of behaviour.

How many people was it that "rushed over to tell the other ship that they sucked?"  I just can't see this happening.

I've never heard people from one ship/line yelling things at another.  On my recent NE/Canada cruise, I think it was in Halifax, there were 3-4 ships in port.  I was on the Escape and as we were walking back there were some people coming from the Royal Caribbean ship (don't remember which one) admiring the artwork on the Escape's hull.  One of them said that their RC ship was boring.  I'm going to assume they meant the outside of it, they were probably enjoying their cruise very much.

I’ve also been on many cruises post-COVID and never heard anything like this.  Even if I did I would dismiss it all as harmless fun/joshing.  The closest I came was in Costa Maya

last year.  We were on Virgin.  There was a massive RCL ship docked next to us, with thousands of kids.  We had a few people from it asking what Virgin was like and lots of frustrated parents looking enviously at us and our ship.  😂. (Please no “You hate Kids” posts.  I have two of my own and a grandson.  But at this point in my life there's something to be said about an adults only ship!)

I have to wonder if there was a large, organized, group on that particular cruise that decided to heckle other cruise lines if across the pier from them...

I agree, sounds like a one-off situation to me. Been on multiple cruises since the pandemic and never seen anything like that.

We always sail during spring break before it gets too hot in the Caribbean and you have your collection of drunken “kids”.

Lately, we have seen more people “enjoying their beverage package too much”. There have always been a few. Now it feels like more. Some are happy drunks. Some are loud. PSome are nasty,,, yelling at the bar staff,,, being rude and obnoxious in elevators.

Never even heard of this post-COVID, but if these was a 3-4 day booze cruise I could see there being enough knuckleheads aboard to start doing this after their 12th drink before noon.

This is funny because you said "knuckleheads," a term I use often.  Likely goes back to watching too much three stooges when I was very young (and later).🤡

disclaimer: there is no such thing as "too much" three stooges😎

It was dusk and we were pulling into port. Lots of the people on the NCL ship were out on their balconies and on the top deck drinking and enjoying themselves. As we pulled up to the other ship about thirty people out of about a hundred on our ship  started yelling. The other ship heard  people yelling at them and maybe not "rushed" but walked swiftly to the side we were pulling in on and started their own chants. At least thirty on the other ship too.

On the contrary. My 2 post COVID cruises there was none of this and passengers were actually lined up waving to each other on passing ships.

Yeah.  I'm guessing it was one idiot (who hadn't had a drink, drunks are happier people on cruise ships) who just couldn't help himself (or herself).  This is a really bizarre thread.  Not a single poster other than the OP has reported ever observing such idiotic behavior.  I have no problem believing that one goofball could do this, but a "crowd?"  No way.

Yes, I realize that the OP didn't say "crowd," but it seemed to be implied.  I tried re-reading the OP and it again gave me a headache.🤕

Come to think of it - on my cruise out of Miami last year this was the case as well.  One of the comedians saw it (then or on a previous trip he was contracted for) and commented on it in his act...

Never heard or seen this. Must on been a drunk crowd on one side and a reaction from other. We just sailed last week on the Joy. In one port we parked opposite MSC Seascape. People waved to me from their balcony while was sitting on mine. I watched folks walking on the decks on MSC waving to folks on NCL. We sailed away first and I saw a lot of people watching us sail away and wave and cheer to us, which I think is the normal. Never seen what the OP posted

i was on the joy last week, as well, and can confirm this. at one port, i think it was costa maya, we had four ships in town... a carnival, an MSC, the NCL joy and one other i can't recall. my balcony cabin was directly opposite the MSC when docked and many people waved on the way in and on the way out. i was also up in the vibe, which was directly opposite the MSC's premium sun decks. more waves from passengers, as well as passengers on either side coveting the other's lounge chairs.

16,000 people descending on a sleepy mexican tourist town is more than i can handle. i went out for a bit and came right back onboard. same thing happened in cozumel, although two ships were docked across town in the other cruise port.

anyway, i've seen nothing but respect and warm waves and conviviality from those traveling on nearby ships.

On the Bliss to Alaska in August two women got into a fist fight at the bar in the casino. Broken glass hit other passengers. Two guys broke it up. Took security forever to get there. Good times. 🙄

Two older ladies ended up in a fist fight at a quilting wholesale show last week. People keep surprising me.

We were on Holland before COVID when we docked in Cozumel next to a Carnival ship.

We enjoyed watching the drunks coming back to the Carnival Ship including a couple of passed out guys being whelled aboud in wheel chairs.

The most interesting thing was about 30 college coed all wearing simiar t-shirts emblazened with "----- # 1, ----- # 2,...., -----  #30."  They weren't obnoxious or even overly inebriated.  (I had to censor the actuall wording).

Every cruise I've ever been on, pre- and post- covid has been like this.  You see another ship, you wave. Everyone is cruising, everyone is excited!

I’ve sailed quite a bit, Europe, Bermuda, Canada, Caribbean…never saw any of that, even at the ports where multiple ships were docked…..even with Carnival.

That said, the last time I sailed Carnival, I found two people passed out one early morning on my Havana Cabin “porch”.  That was a bit unsettling causing me to call security when they refused to leave my balcony/porch.

Haha OP! This reminds me of our cruise in March. We sailed out of Miami on Joy. Prior to our sail away a Carnival ship sailed by. The cruise director on that ship told everyone to look over at the Norwegian "No Fun" ship. The crowd just started whooping and hollering about how much fun they were having. No one from our "dignified" ship yelled back. It was just those yahoos....really, is it so concerning that folks have some fun back and forth between ships?

Carnival fun ship kept steaming ahead, with the cruise director mocking the RCL ship too....I just smiled knowing I wouldn't have to get all dressed up to enter the main dining room later on.
