molecrochip Posted January 4 #26 Share Posted January 4 There’s been a mistake on this group somewhere along the way. The letter I saw clearly showed Vigo being swapped from first til last, not Cadiz.

Certainly people were showing copies of the new itinerary on their tv screens and also a printed out copy that stated Cadiz had moved to the end of the cruise rather than the beginning when they boarded on Saturday. Iona is in Gibraltar today . Edited January 5 by LifeonMars

Post op fatigue and a foggy brain means I probably misremembered the port that was changed from beginning to end. I have just seen (and am not remembering this incorrectly!) that they are now staying in Gibraltar until 10pm instead of leaving at 2pm, and Alicante has been cancelled for tomorrow. Rare posford Posted January 11 #37 Share Posted January 11 It’s a disgrace really. P&O can get back from Vigo in one day but it takes two days to get there. P&O need to do more port stops and less faffing around on the high seas not paying port fees.

But then the cruise line would not be making money while docked. Casino, shops can't be open. Quite a few Spanish ports require tax to be added on to drinks etc. Maybe they could of gone for another port, maybe the port could not handle another ship or even get the ship in for the day. Factors happen. Also people rather have more sea days than port days vice versa. Edited January 11 by carlanthony24
Rare posford Posted January 11 #39 Share Posted January 11 Until a few years ago, P&O used to do 8 ports in a 2 week Med cruise, now it’s 7 and next year on Arvia it’s 6. Most all cruisers love the cruise ports, mixed with a few sea days. Not sea days with a few port days. please tell me if I’m wrong.
Rare carlanthony24 Posted January 11 #40 Share Posted January 11 Been a while since we have gone from Southampton but remember doing 3 sea days to Madeira, Tenerife, Las Palmas, Lanzarote, sea day to Lisbon 2 sea days back to Southampton. We have managed to reach Madeira in 2- 2 1/2 days before. Personally we love the sea days that why we always chose the Caribbean transatlantic but they seem to miss St Maarten quite a bit now on the way out and the price is a bit much. The Azura fly cruises are quite nice with a couple of sea days port another sea day etc. Companies need to make profit from somewhere. Cutting the speed to save fuel, less ports more onboard spending to counter act that. Believe a lot of cruise lines doing this.

It's odd that some P&O cruises can have 7 ports over 14 days while others have only 5.
Fionboard Posted January 12 #42 Share Posted January 12 The new ships seem to be the destination (floating resorts) rather than the ports. The smaller ships tend to have longer, and more port intensive cruises (which I prefer, although much more expensive).

Just shows that cruise companies can never win this debate as there are contrasting views
