tkme2disney Posted December 29, 2023 #1 Share Posted December 29, 2023 Good morning! It’s almost time for our first cruise & I'm trying to figure out as much as possible so I don’t stand out as the “newbie” 🤣. Can we get drinks delivered to enjoy on our balcony after we put the kiddos to sleep? I understand if you walk down and get them, they open them. I’m trying to find a solution to have them on ice to enjoy after we are done with the kids routine and have them in bed. If we buy the royal cooler and give our room attendant a nice tip every day will they keep it filled with ice and put drinks in it? Thank you! Ocean Boy Posted December 29, 2023 #2 Share Posted December 29, 2023 I've never heard of drinks being delivered. If you are paying for a drink at a bar... soda, beer, etc. you can certainly tell them not to open it. And yes, you can ask your room attendant to fill your ice bucket. You don't have to buy a cooler.
tkme2disney Posted December 29, 2023 Author #3 Share Posted December 29, 2023 I thought I had read somewhere that they won’t give drinks to you un opened but I will definitely ask the bartenders. That’s the perfect solution. And I’ll still let my husband believe we need the cooler for ice…I like it 😆

As for ice, the ice bucket in the cabin is tiny, and may not fit more than one bottle of anything. The "refrigerators" in most cabins will only keep something cold that is already cold when you put it in, so if you bring the drinks back to your cabin in the afternoon, they should still be cold by the time you want to enjoy them on your balcony. The fridge actually chills better by putting the full ice bucket in it.
time4u2go Posted December 29, 2023 #5 Share Posted December 29, 2023 You can order them to be delivered via room service.

However, if you are paying for a drink they don't care what you do with it.

Honestly, this doesn't matter. 2 hours ago, tkme2disney said: Can we get drinks delivered to enjoy on our balcony after we put the kiddos to sleep? I understand if you walk down and get them, they open them. No drink delivery to private rooms. Options: - You're allowed to bring a bottle of wine onboard with you. - You can order a bottle to your room ahead of the cruise ... not sure where it's located online, but it's something like Gifts and Gear. - You can walk to the closest bar and bring drinks back. If you're talking about beer, your mileage will vary as to whether the bartender opens the beer ... most will say yes, especially when you explain you're carrying these drinks back to your room, possibly up or down a staircase. - If you're talking about cocktails, you might want to bring a large insulated cup with you ... it'll keep your drinks cold longer, and it'll be easier to carry a lidded cup. If you're getting a drink package, they'll give you a thermal mug when you get your first bar drink. 2 hours ago, tkme2disney said: If we buy the royal cooler and give our room attendant a nice tip every day will they keep it filled with ice and put drinks in it? Thank you! - You will have an ice bucket in your room, and you can request ice every day -- it's a small bucket. This is standard service, covered by your standard tips. You didn't ask this, but you don't have access to serve-yourself ice like you do in a hotel. You can always get a couple glasses of ice from the Coke machine (it will give you ice whether you have a drink package or not). - You can bring a small soft-sided cooler, which you probably already have at home. - Note, too, you can get a "bucket of beer" (from the pool bar only), which is a slight bargain over buying individuals -- and you get a small Royal cooler. 1 hour ago, orville99 said: The "refrigerators" in most cabins will only keep something cold that is already cold when you put it in, so if you bring the drinks back to your cabin in the afternoon, they should still be cold by the time you want to enjoy them on your balcony. Yes, I was going to mention putting the drinks in the ice bucket, then putting the ice bucket into the cooler/fridge. doghog Posted December 29, 2023 #10 Share Posted December 29, 2023 (edited) I bring a couple of glasses of wine up to our cabin to drink while sitting on the balcony from one of the bars. My wife always questions me why her glass always has less in it than mine. Look a whale. 😇 Edited December 29, 2023 by doghog 1

However, it would seem that it becomes even more pricey for a $14 drink plus 18% plus a tip for the delivery person. And though it doesn't apply to the OP, I suspect C&A vouchers are probably not going to work for a cabin delivery.

And as you've stated, I'm pretty sure that drink vouchers (and maybe even drink packages?) can not be used for room service drinks.

tkme2disney Posted December 29, 2023 Author #14 Share Posted December 29, 2023 Thank you all once again for putting up with & answering my questions! We did buy the drink package so most likely it will be best for one of us to stay with the kiddos & the other do a drink run. 26 minutes ago, Merion_Mom said: @tkme2disney - which ship? We’ll be on the oasis The best advice you have gotten so far is to take an insulated cup and dump your drink(s) into it at the bar. Easy to carry, nice to keep cold. And bartenders will DEFINITELY be happy NOT to open your beers. I do it every day on a cruise.

Mick B Posted January 3 #24 Share Posted January 3 Hi, One of my old tricks was to go down to the Casino Bar early evening and order either 2 drinks off one card or 1 off each depending on what we each had left. I would ask for 2 Merlots and the bartender would give me an extra inch per glass compared to the Schooner - I think they expect you to gamble there so fill your glass up a bit more. I would always tell my wife that now I'm older, this is the only way she will get an extra inch! Anyway I would then take these drinks back to our cabin and put them in the fridge for later as they keep nicely for some time. Never had any issues with doing this, and yes, these were freebies when you had 3 free drinks on your sea pass card during the Diamond happy hour. No need to do it anymore since the C&A perks changed, but BITD it was a good way to enjoy a drink later on without having to queue for ages at the bar. I would imagine this is still a good way to reserve a chilled drink for later without having to venture out and queue for ages during the busy times.
