Had Lamb Shank in The Restaurant.  Was one of the best meals on voyage. Braised  tender, falling off the bone, and seasoned to my liking, really a huge shank (from hind quarter --  larger and meatier than forequarter shank which has a longer, thinner leg bone).  Prepared just like Greek Style.

 

Exec Chef was Joseph Dabassious, a real pro.

On the Octantis, as much grilled lobster and steak as you want from the WC grill in the evenings, also the sushi and seafood buffet in the WC. Much larger than on ocean ships.

The Explorer WC “spoiled” us! Next time we were on an Ocean cruise we felt “deprived”.

OMG, new favorite main dish onboard. The feta crusted rack o’lamb is so so good. Sorry that it’s unlikely it will be offered again before they make us leave on May 6th😢.

Clay - you are likely now the most famous person on Viking Ships!  I would think everyone knows you by now.  Keep asking for specialty dishes!!  We want to see the photos and salivate as we sit at home and live by your trip vicariously.  🙂

If you do get a specialty dish, it's in your best interest to not advertise it. The reason being, is that the cook staff aren't going to be able to handle hundreds of individual and specialized orders. Then, you pit Viking guests versus Viking staff and "Well, you made this special dish for _____________ so WHY CAN'T I HAVE SOMETHING SPECIAL, TOO???" It's an awful position to put Viking in.

Best two dishes from our recent cruise…the Filipino fried rice and the spicy mayo shrimp at the World Cafe.

 

Worst…every pizza.  Really, just avoid it.  It looks a lot better than it tastes, and that’s saying something ‘cause it doesn’t look great.

On our recent transatlantic trip we had two absolutely banging curries, a Thai red curry chicken and and an Indian Lamb curry (although the Naan served with it was a bit meh!) They were both good and spicy! Would recommend if you see them on the menu!

There were a few nights near the end of my 33 days on the Star when all I wanted was something simple. Shrimp cocktail and cheese pizza. I’m very picky about pizza and thought it was quite good. Not Regina’s in Boston’s North End good, but still done well.

Just got back from Italy—Sorrento, Naples, Tuscany. Sad to say that Viking’s version of pizza would have the Neapolitans rioting in the streets…! 😹🍕

On the Polaris, the combo pizza looked delicious and out of a cook book. Though, the inside was lukewarm at best (just came out of the oven) because the top was so overloaded with toppings. Decent but could have been better.
