JourneyView Digital Planner

I was excited to received a Princess email with the subject "It's Nearly Showtime" and inviting me to "use JourneyView digital planner to bookmark events of interest".  Well, I was excited.

I clicked on "Get Started" with every expectation that there would be an explanation of the JourneyView digital planner.  If there was, I couldn't find it.

Perhaps it's the app?  The Journey tab tells me I haven't bookmarked anything yet.  True; there's nothing to bookmark.  If I click on "Show Entire Ship Schedule", it uselessly displays the ports of call and the arrival (but not departure) times, the same way it always has.  If I click on My Journey, it shows my dinner reservations, the same way it always has.

Can someone explain the meaning of the email, if there is one?  This is the latest example of pre-cruise annoyance from Princess, something I don't recall having experienced with other lines.

The e-mail is a generic one sent to all and should stop being sent because JourneyView is related to the Medallion App, which Princess wants to obsolete.  When this e-mail is sent, it usually means that a tentative daily schedule (not all encompassing, the final schedule will populate once connected to MedallionNet) has been uploaded to the App and you're free to start bookmarking events.  In your case it sounds like the schedule hasn't been loaded yet.

Again, failure on Princess' part on using complicated terminology.  JourneyView is almost an obsolete term because that was the terminology used on the old Medallion App.  On the ship, the paper schedule left in the cabin is called the "Event Listings."  The new Princess Cruises App calls the schedule "Ship Schedule."  Princess should call the schedule "Event Listings" on the App and use "My Journey" as the tab to show what you've bookmarked.

How far out is your cruise?  It usually starts showing events around 4-5 weeks before your sail date with more showing up closer to your sail date.

Less than three weeks.

It sounds frustrating dealing with the confusion surrounding the Princess email and the JourneyView digital planner. Sometimes, these announcements can be misleading or lack clarity, leaving passengers feeling disappointed. While it's disappointing that the email didn't provide the expected explanation or guidance on how to use the digital planner, it's possible that there was a miscommunication or oversight on Princess's end. As for the meaning of the email, it's unclear without further information. It's unfortunate that this experience has been a source of pre-cruise annoyance, especially if you haven't encountered similar issues with other cruise lines. If you need to jot down any notes or reminders about your upcoming cruise, you could try using an online notepad for convenience and privacy.

It's disappointing when you receive an email promising a useful tool like that, only to find it's not clear or intuitive once you try to use it.

However considering that it is from Princess IT what else would you expect.

Way long ago...there would be snippets of events that would populate My Journey.  Cruise is a short distance out and still NOTHING.

I have come to believe that every time Princess "fixes/updates" their app, they make it worse.

Missing:

My Journey events

Port/Guide maps

Ability to make complimentary specialty dining reservations

Port Arrival Times are listed, but not departure times

Huh?  Princess is wanting to obsolete the app?  Surely you meant something else...

At this time I wrote the above, it was a time of transition for Princess and there two apps running--the Medallion App and the Princess Cruises App.  Princess wanted to obsolete the Medallion App, which Journey View is tied into.  On 04/01/24 (I think that's the date), the Medallion App was officially made obsolete.  The terminology of the e-mail would have been wrong for the Princess App because the that function is called Ship Schedule.  The e-mail can still be sent, but the terminology used would have to be sent.  TBH, I think this e-mail is still sent.  It goes directly to my Trash folder, so I don't pay attention.

I had a similar experience recently with another service. Sometimes these updates or new tools can be confusing to navigate at first. Regarding your question about the meaning of the email, it sounds like there might have been some confusion or a lack of clarity in how the digital planner was supposed to enhance your experience.
If you're still looking for a solution, I'd like to share a suggestion that has worked well for me: notesonline. One feature I find particularly useful is the ability to make notes disappear after reading them, which can be handy for organizing and managing information without cluttering your interface.

My cruise departs in two days my ship schedule under the planner is full, but only full of sales.  Fitness classes, Casino sales Art sales Spa sales and The shops sales.  No entertainment at all.

Same as usual then. I mention it in the feedback after every cruise. Take out the cr*p and there's little left. Guess they think we are stupid! Saying that, many people do attend these 'events', surprisingly. We just head for the wine bar instead!
