Booking a 3 person room and only 2 people show up to board?

Recommended Posts

Could they deny your boarding when checking in?  We have a friend that might be ready to cruise again by then.  She recently lost her husband and is an emotional wreck so she may not be ready to cruise.

No, they will not deny boarding. Guests in the same cabin do not need to show up at the same time in order to board. If she ends up being a no show, her taxes and port fees will be re-imbursed.

If they ask about your third person just say she is traveling separately. Give no other information. As Cruiseguy1016 noted you do not need to all board at the same time.

No.  The taxes and fees for the no show will be refunded

It doesn't matter one bit if you tell them they couldn't make it.  No need to be deceitful

So what happens when only 2 people show up on embarkation day?  Has anyone have this happen to them?

Literally did this a couple weeks ago and our room slept more than three.  Nothing happened, they didn’t even look or call for our third to do the muster drill.

They didn’t care.  The third guest was paid and on the itinerary, they have the money so Royal didn’t worry.  You will not get a refund.  The only issue was a couple of the dining reservations still showed a third even though we amended the reservations once we were onboard with only two.

  • 2 weeks later...

Our 3rd person in the cabin will not be able to make it and we are doing them as a no show for the first time.  They have not checked in online but should they and then at the port we just say they are not able to make it?

There is no need to have them check in online and there is also no need to tell people at the pier that they are not coming. Just have them be a no show

in this situation when you have to buy the no show a drink package or anything else off the planner.. does the refund get processed automatically as well and at the same time as the port fees/tax?

We had a no show and the pre-paid tips were refunded by the 2nd day of the cruise. The taxes were refunded 2 days after we got off the ship. All went to the original credit card used.

I'm confused.  Are you booking 3 people in the 3 bed cabin OR are you booking 2 people in a 3 bed cabin now and thinking you might add a 3rd person later?

If you think you might add a 3rd person later, be aware that sometimes the total capacity of the ship is reached and you won't be able add a 3rd person even though there is an empty bed in your cabin.  Cruise ships can be at full capacity even when there are empty cabins.  That happens when there are a lot of cabins booked with 3-4 people in them.
