RockHoundTX Posted March 24 #26 Share Posted March 24 Many years ago they used to have tokens for T-shirts, hats, etc. It was much more fun back then. I jokingly have my "$40 cruise polo shirt". Now they juat have the BINGO tokens (one of which is almost never present). We walk by them every time we walk through the casino. Probably 20% of the time there is a random quarter that has fallen. Once we have 4 or 5 quarters and see a "ripe" machine, we usually play it back in. I think the most we ever won on one push was about $15. Overall, put more money in than we got our but otherwise a fun time. Anyone that says they make money on the push machines is both super lucky and super selective. The casino was just about empty, and I was playing a slot machine near the quarter pusher. Periodically, a dollar or two in quarters would fall out of the machine, and I would scoop them up and put them in the slot machine I was playing. 😄 The next morning it was turned off and had yellow tape around it. They are fun, like any gambling, and we play with them a little bit sometimes. 😊 At one point during our cruise, it got a bit rough and they shut down the quarter pusher machines for that reason. But I do think the motion of the ship can help a little even under normal seas.
mafig Posted March 25 #28 Share Posted March 25 I watched one during rough seas and the money did not move at all. If you look at them carefully, you can see there's a lip at the end, so the coins and $ have to go uphill.

I usually end up with about $5 in quarters by the end of the cruise.
NoShoes2 Posted March 25 #30 Share Posted March 25 We've played it on the last few cruises. It's fun! My $ last longer there than it does at the Blackjack table LOL If we break even we are happy, but usually not.
yogimax Posted March 25 #31 Share Posted March 25 On the surface, this appears to be a break even game. All the quarters put in will eventually fall out. Right? Not so. What I observed was a significant number of quarters falling off the sides of the visible area before coming down to the payout area in the middle (I hope this makes sense). Having said that, the game is fun and you may luck out and win a bill.
Baron Barracuda Posted March 25 #32 Share Posted March 25 Years ago when Explorer was doing Caribbean sailings out of NJ we hit rough seas causing captain to deploy stabilizers. Something went wrong with starboard side one causing ship to lean violently to starboard. I was on promenade and watched carts of liquor bottles roll across deck and crash. Most of the dishes in Portofino fell and broke. Tropical fish from the display tanks flopped all over the floor. Only smart one was my daughter who ran to casino and made quite a haul from these machines.
jk04 Posted March 26 #33 Share Posted March 26 DH LOVES these machines. I apparently prefer to go broke quicker and play slots. 😂 2

The house always wins--in this instance by having a gap on the sides of the tray where the coins that fall through go into the collection box, not the winners' tray. Boo!! We still had lots of fun watching those who were very serious about playing and also very unseriously attempting it ourselves with a few quarters (including a few rescued ones). A chute pops forward about 30-40 seconds after the last quarter is played to catch them. Years ago collected about $400 on a South America cruise. No.more. sergeant655 Posted September 17 #36 Share Posted September 17 (edited) Newer machines may have the chute that catches money for the house. Older machines ( branded grand casino and six sided ) don’t have this feature and still drop coins like crazy.. radiance class has this kind of machine. Once I had a bartender get annoyed with me for collecting quarters out of it. I watched from a distance the next day and found that he was taking them. He managed to stay in the casino bar for more than one cruise. (they usually rotate the bartenders around to different bars from Cruise to cruise .) vwlmember Posted September 17 #37 Share Posted September 17 Yes. Every cruise my wife and I are on includes a few sessions with these machines. We know it is a losing proposition, as most gambling will be, but the experience is much more engaging than a slot machine. We have a great time playing and enjoy the experience. It's vacation time and you are supposed to do stupid things just for the fun of it!
Rare bruce85 Posted September 17 #38 Share Posted September 17 Do these machines take actual quarters, or do you have to get tokens. We watched it last cruise, my wife wanted to try them, but it looked like tokens, she wanted to use the quarters in her bag

We go to the casino a few times a cruise for just that reason. We know we will lose money. But we consider it paying for our entertainment. Never played these specific quarter drop machines but after this thread maybe I will try on my next cruise!
