Our compensation for our cruise, which was cancelled AFTER we got on board was a refund of our cruise fare, plus a fcc for base cruise fare, less port fees and taxes. This was very generous, however, to book same cruise this year was about 1k more, for 2 category below our 9/1/23 sailing. We just got off from the Panama Canal cruise, and I never heard anything about any hints of possible propulsion issues. 2 of our table mates (who we had a great time with) were staying on board for this leg. Would speculate maybe azipod prop damage - like this ship had a few years ago - which was replaced dockside in about 2 days. You remember that one chief? All speculation, of course. Off hand, I don't remember the repair you mention, but was the "evening before" on the Panama Canal cruise that I quoted, or the next cruise? Sorry I wasn't clear - the "evening before" was reported to be about 11 PM Monday night off the coast between LA & SFO, followed by reduced speed. Lots of stuff floating in those busy waters. Again, 100% pure speculation - but seems to fit the repair timeline stated. I'm scheduled on the Friday Vancouver sailing so watching this closely.. Not all engine issues are instantaneous. I'm just saying that what ever the issue, it must have been something pretty instant. It's working fine...crap, it's broke. There were no rumors or gossip (that I heard) of going slower, or operating with 1 azipod instead of 2 or anything like that. In past situations, I think the issue usually happens or develops during a cruise, and there's info/gossip/rumors that make it's way around the ship and it all get posted here. In this case, it's like it happened between cruises. Our cruise was fine, next cruise starting with engine issues. @Beachin2's new info on the timing makes sense. While the next cruise didn't start with issues, it happened pretty much right away. We were having breakfast in the Windjammer by the window when we felt a shutter like a car feels when you slam on the brakes. Then the ship slowed and we stopped moving . We watched fir about 5 to 10 minutes every so often the ending would churn up the water and it looked like it was trying to turn a bit then it would stop. We mentioned it to the one of the head waiter and asked if he knew of any problems he said no everything is fine . Well after a bit we were moving again but very slowly. That happen at about 10 in the morning. The announcement to forgo all ports was about 3:30 I believe. We are also on the next cruise so hoping it gets fixed. This portion wasn't really that big of a deal for us been to the ports before so not too disappointed. I do feel bad for people that are only on this leg. We booked to just sail rather than fly. Radiance is not the only ship to have this issue. Although I know she is getting older, she is one of my favorite ships and is lovely and I will be very sad when RCCL sells or scraps her.
