Rare OzKiwiJJ Posted July 17 #416 Share Posted July 17 It hasn't changed much in 24 years! 🤣 A zillion shops selling tshirts etc, gorgeous old buildings. Sloppy Joe's bar still looks the same, and there is plenty of key lime pie to be had. We went ashore this morning to do some shopping. It's very hot and humid today so we skipped the idea of having lunch ashore and came back to the ship where we're admiring the scenery from the Sanctuary, and watching passing boats and planes go by.

sewgood Posted July 18 #420 Share Posted July 18 We enjoyed Key West, it was of course hot and humid but we were able to walk along the main street by staying in the shade and popping into the occasional shop to cool down. We went on the train around the old town, there were a lot of very pretty old buildings and the town has a colourful history, lots of funny and interesting stories of the Island's history. Our guide pointed out the bar which clothes are optional, he advised us to take a towel to place on the seat if we went there. 😁 Another bar he showed us had regular fights every night in the old days and you were asked when you entered if you had a weapon if not they would give you one so the fights were fair.
sewgood Posted July 18 #421 Share Posted July 18 Today we had Christmas in July onboard. There were some special cakes in the buffet for lunch and the lamingtons went rather quickly. This evening there was a Christmas celebration in the atrium with Christmas carols being sung by the passengers and crew. It was very well attended and the Captain was there singing away with his young daughter, very sweet to see. Everybody seemed to be enjoying themselves when we passed by after dinner. A few of the passengers really got into the swing of things with their Christmas hats and red dresses.

I love the Hemingway House with all those gorgeous pusses and so friendly if you just sit somewhere and wait for them to come sit on your lap....just like at home 🙂

A few of the passengers really got into the swing of things with their Christmas hats and red dresses. On last year's world cruise we had Christmas in July for the FB group. The ship put on a spectacular buffet meal and a visit from Santa. There were comments that other passengers were upset that they weren't included, but the numbers had to be limited. The ship then put on another Christmas in July event for everyone. I didn't go to the buffet - I left it for people who hadn't been to the earlier one. There were carols in the atrium with fake snow falling. Both events were lovely.
