Help! Are all celebrity cruises for people over 55?

So how do you feel about phone calls in the Retreat Lounge and in Luminae that are not speaker calls but ones where you could only hear the person in the venue conducting his business but could not hear the other party.   One of the few times I wish I had Bluetooth speakers to fire up and play music while he was holding his conversation.

Agreed, I like to sit beside folks and chime in on the conversations.

I think you read that differently than I intended.  I agree you specifically playing your music (your ambiance) loud enough to drown out any noise someone else is making is perfectly fine.  If I knew what you were doing, I'd find it funny.  But if 3 others started cranking up different songs, I sure hope I had my earplugs with me.

My point is, who decides which of those people get to use the Bluetooth speakers they took to the pool?  Now we can say Celebrity doesn’t allow them.  But we know how good staff is about enforcing the rules.  Translation, not very.

I’m saying, if people just use some common courtesy and everyone listens with headphones no one is disturbed by another person’s music.

It depends on the port and ship. I went on Reflection out of Florida, and it was a very old crowd, but I did Solstice out of Seattle and LA and it felt more balanced. Apex was completely different, although it was March, so a lot of well-off younger professionals took their teens on board, many even paying for the Retreat for them. The majority of people I saw on Apex seemed like young professionals, managers. So it's a newer ship, costs more, has more vibrant dining, bars, and shows, so you will get more people with money and more young people looking for modern design and edgy art and entertainment. Edge-class ships are the cutting edge, which most reviews show, so while you'll get people of all ages, I think the ship and shows and experience are so superior that it outweighs any issue I would have about passengers. I think that the current huge cruising demand also means that all cruise lines are getting age-homogenized, with lots of young people, families, LBTQ+, and people from all nationalities visible on all ships I've been on, even HAL, Princess, and Cunard. I'm going on Beyond next, but I wouldn't go out of an older Celebrity ship out of Florida again, because it felt too much like seniors in Florida going out on a bargain cruise with a bad vibe (constant marital bickering and complaining and crowds), whereas Apex had a really good vibe.

Wow interesting last comment.  I feel the total opposite (of course I am a senior,  albeit not from Florida). By far the loudest and most crowded ships I've sailed are E class.  I don't know if I'd say a bad vibe per se, but definitely a noisier, more party crowd. I much prefer S or M class, although I will sail E if I can afford the retreat as that is far superior in many ways there.

Ah yes, the vim and vigor of youth, the wisdom and experience of middle age, and with perseverance and luck the privilege to enjoy the fruits of your labor while navigating around those senior moments. All in good time each phase will pass so it is a waste of time to fret over the small stuff. Go where you wanna go, do what you wanna do, without concern about where you are in the chronological order of things.

If you are FaceTiming at the pool, what do you do when the person next to you does the same?  Does it make a difference if I am on speakerphone or playing music?

We move to a location where we hope not to disturb anyone else.  Speaker phone I would be okay with for a short conversation, playing music I would have a problem with as playing music is against Celebrity's rules.  Celebrity requires headphones when listening to music.

I don’t see a difference between a call and music.  Other than people say a speakerphone is needed because two or more people want to listen and talk.

My daughter and her husband are both 41 and just returned from their first Celebrity cruise.  They have been on many cruises with RCI and Norwegian.  I was concerned that at their age they would find Celebrity boring and the passengers too old for their liking.  They loved everything about Celebrity.  They thought that the food and service were better than the others.  Also, they loved not having children running around.

I am currently on the Constellation and it's the youngest crowd I've known. Lots of couples and groups under 30. I would say maybe 50 / 50 on passengers under and over 50.

Is it a hostile environment or is everyone getting along? Are things moving too fast, too slow, or just right? I ask this, tongue-in-cheek, obviously, because there is no age exclusivity in having fun and playing nice. The OP's question is frivolously ageist, at best.

This is what I'm hoping I find to be true on Beyond too. My decision for my next cruise was based on food reputation and fewer kids (wasn't aware this has become an issue post-covid til I read reviews).  I have cruised Carnival & NCL in past.  I chose between RC & Celebrity due to price point, theater options, and food.  Princess ships didn't wow me, and MSC seemed like a step downward.

Day 3 and all well, everyone seems to be enjoying themselves, young and old 😀

It was not meant to e frivolous.  If you continued to read I said that I should not have used age as a factor, they were just looking for more nightlife and activities.

Ageist yes, frivolous not at all.

MSC and Carnival mega ships out of US have lots of youth on them & my NCL cruise into Panama had about 10 people younger than me on the entire ship. The atmosphere onboard is quite a bit different. I'd easily say the 'atmosphere' onboard may be one of the most difficult things to determine when deciding between ships and cruise lines.  For me, I think atmosphere has a great deal to do with how much I love a cruise.

I personally LOVED every minute of the cruise with all older passengers, but I'm the youngest of all my siblings and cousins so I find it easier to meet older strangers than my own age group.  That is not the case with most of my friends.

When I was in my 20s I had no interest in drinking around people my parents' age who might give me disapproving looks for my behavior.  Now that I'm at the age of a grandparent, I don't want to be on a ship surrounded by drunk 20 year olds.  I don't want to be on vacation with hoards of their kids either.  A great number of posts under Celebrity is about dislike for changes that are popular for the younger crowd & millennials take a beating in many of the threads. The OP said nothing with the intention of offending.  Those posters will not be thrilled with the last Carnival cruise I was on. Seems to be a double standard.

MSC is fine IF you sail in the Yacht Club.  Otherwise, it's insane.

Could you say more about Princess?  I was looking at that for a Japan cruise.

The only time kids have bothered me is family time in the Solarium on a cold weather cruise.  Because the place was unusable for 2 hours.

Princess ships didn't wow me

Our last Princess cruise was a 10 night Caribbean cruise on the Enchanted March 2024. We were very impressed with the ship, staff and all the different venues. We had the Plus Package. Much better than Celebrity's CBP and PBPs. We also enjoyed the nightly (every night) Captains Circle HH in the Vista Lounge. But that's our opinion. The only bummer is Princess still allows smoking in the casino. We aren't gamblers but the stench doesn't stay in the casino. We've got a future cruise booked on the Royal. Looking forward to that cruise, like all our cruises, no matter the cruise lines we book with.

The kids likely didn't bother you because you didn't sail on a mega ship out of Galveston (I'm from TX so that is the nearest port to me).  Per recent reviews, there seems to be unusual amount of passengers irritated by kids running amuck the ships - less so of an issue out of Florida based on reviews, but still notable.  I didn't find these type of reviews for Celebrity.

I think it's important to take my comments as only research - I haven't sailed on Princess (nor Celebrity until the end of this month), but I removed them from my list because I was looking for something I would find elevated to my experiences on NCL (my favorite of what I've cruised on). Princess overall seemed to provide cheaper rates to Celebrity and it seems to be a line with fewer kids onboard. They seem to be focusing quite a bit on views from venues - & solarium type structures added to cover theaters and such.  Their dining ratings don't fare well in the 'premium class'.  Dining aboard sounds slightly below NCL - partly due to only having main dining, buffet, and pizza/grill as included dining options.  All the ads created by Princess focused primarily on the suite amenities and shows onboard. The show descriptions sounded similar to those on Celebrity without all the smaller shows that Celebrity has onboard. Their marketing didn't target the average passenger much at all - so it felt like their service is skewed.  Besides larger covered areas, the only think I saw that I wouldn't find on almost any other cruise line is the classic elegant look from what I'd call 'old luxury'. If crystal, grand stair cases, ballrooms, and views from the ship appeal to you, I think it'd be something to consider - because it looks like a cheaper priced cruise on average.  I didn't research much past that.

But that's our opinion.

I responded to zitsky of why and when I stopped researching them.  I completely understand we all travel in different grades of cabins & different experiences speak to each of us.  Can you review my thoughts and let me know if I'm roughly correct in comparison?  I liked some of their cruise prices and would like to know if anything stood out.  I didn't compare drink packages - but for premium drinks with premium wifi, I paid just over $50 per night including gratuities.

Sorry, I'm only speaking about our experiences. Positive and or negative. What you or others may consider positive and or negative experiences and opinions is your opinion and justifiable so. I respect that. I'll tap out and leave the comparisons to others. I just wanted to share my brief opinion. Cheers. 🍻

I did continue to read, and it took a while for you to be convinced of your misspeak. Whether intentional or not, it was a ludicrous question.
