Disappointed with GTY booking...

Well... if you are not prone to seasickness and you don't hit storms.

We are not prone... but once we booked GTY (on Princess) and ended up in the very aft of the ship on the highest deck. We still were not sick, but experience was more than interesting. We literally were rolling in our beds all the time. 🙂

being lulled to sleep! nothing like it! 🧡

Cruises from re-start until December 31, 2022 were ringing in "double" points. So, Solo in a suite was good for 6 points a night.

I did solo in balcony with no solo supplement + 4 points a night = 🙂

I got 42 points (and made D+) on a 7-night on Explorer in January 2022... solo with the double points offer in a free oceanview casino offer + $150 upgrade to a balcony + $240 Royal Up to a 2 bedroom Grand Suite.

Even though you're not supposed to get bonus points for a suite on a Royal Up, I somehow did,  I'll never see a deal like that again.

It is very risky to do a guarantee cabin IMO.  Unless it is a guarantee suite- which will probably get you a junior suite.  We never would book a guarantee.  I would be very uncomfortable with a poorly located cabin or one over or under a loud public deck.

If a person wants a cabin in a certain location or is noise sensitive, booking a gty would be risky.  OTOH if a person is flexible about cabin location and isn’t noise sensitive and can contentedly sail in the worst cabin in that category, then booking a gty doesn’t seem so risky.

We have been moved 2 times AFTER boarding at guest services.  They were happy to move us and in one case, we went from interior to midship balcony, the other from deck 3 (Under the exceptionally noisy bathroom above us) interior to a brand new balcony when they added staterooms at the front of the ship.  It pays to ask....nicely. We would've been glad to pay for these upgrades, but they offered them to us at no charge.🥰

First off, I need to say that a gty inside cabin was booked.  I knew not to expect anything great.  However, we booked 2 gty inside cabins, 2 per cabin.  Imagine my surprise when we got our rooms and the 2 people who have only cruised a couple of times were given a cabin overlooking the Promenade, and 2 people, one of which is Diamond + got the inside cabin at the front of the ship.  I would have thought that RC would be as loyal to the Diamond + person as they were to RC.  I know that with gty you get what you get, and I'm fine with that, but in this situation I think RC should have upgraded the cabin with Diamond + status.

Ya get what you get. We booked an inside guarantee on a cruise in March. We got assigned a promenade family room that sleeps 6. Two bay windows looking down at the promenade. Bigger than a junior suite with a ginormous walk in closet.

We have also been assigned a closet in the past.

For us Pandemic time cruisers (all those extra points), one could reach D+ with only a few cruises.

Yes we booked on the restart double point promo.  We did a 7, 11, and 11day crusises.  Then a 14 day junior sweet double points, after the promo ended. Viola diamond plus.  We just did the math.

I think your cabin is disappointed with you, too, so the feeling is mutual.

No need for a nasty response.  I was NOT complaining about the inside cabin - most times I usually book one to keep expenses down so I can cruise more often.  IN THIS CASE, it was an observation.

Often people assume gty cabin will be the worst cabin avaiable in their mind. Except everyone's definition of worst cabin is different. Some like to be on high deck, some low, some by elevator some not.

When cruising restarted in 2021 I had 378. By the end of 2022 I had 758.
Yes, it was hard but someone had to do it 😉 🤣

I’m right there with you. After the restart it was our first cruise as D+. I think we were at 218. By January 2023 we were at 707. I had to take a few by myself since DH isn’t retired yet. Since I always booked them for 2 people and not solo, I didn’t get any of the extra points like a solo would. They were doing that, but seems like they stopped it before the double points promotion. I did add some in there that weren’t double points because I booked after the deadline. For one TP and New Zealand B2B we ended up getting 124 points. I know the double points really helped a lot of people to move up. We enjoyed every one of those cruises.

The no show extra solo point when booked for two ended sometime in late 2019 or early 2020.

First one was in 2019, second one in 2020 after pandemic startup, both on Liberty, the second one the new balcony was up front where they put in the newer balcony rooms.  First one, we were directly under the restroom in the area of the ice rink, every morning at 3:00 the cleaning crew woke us up.  The hotel mgr came to hear it the next morning, they moved us to a balcony immediately, no questions asked.  Second was a room my daughter n law had in the aft area and the cavitation was too harsh for her to sleep, she suffers from migraines, also moved immediately to a balcony...and we didn't even ask for one, just requested to be moved in category.  Love RCCL.
