faith177 Posted September 10, 2018 #276 Share Posted September 10, 2018 We did go there my first trip years ago to find some cheap breakfast items. On my last trip however we were recommended to go to the Mexican department store and found great deals and felt better about supporting a Mexican company while in Mexico. Rare Hlitner Posted September 29, 2018 #285 Share Posted September 29, 2018 is it walkable from the pier (ncl)?if so, directions? For me it is very walkable, but I have no issue walking a mile or even 10 miles. For you I cannot say. As to the distance it will depend on which of the 3 piers your ship docks. The closest pier will be Pier 2 (the center pier that is on the East side of the port). The furthest pier is Pier 3 which is on the North side and Pier 1 (the Southern most pier) is somewhere between in distance. In all cases you need to walk out to the main road (that runs in front of the port) and cross the road to the shopping center. Walmart and Sams are just south of the Galleria Mall (the anchor store is Liverpool). It is probably 1/4 - 1/2 of a mile depending on your pier. Funny thing is that as long term winter residents of PV...that store is a place we avoid unless we are very desperate for something we cannot find anywhere else. In most cases that means we can spend years in PV without ever stopping at that Walmart. But we salute any cruiser who spends money in our beloved community...even if it is at Walmart :). lasvegascruising Posted September 29, 2018 #286 Share Posted September 29, 2018 One cruise, hubby and I walked around and found ourselves in a grocery store in Cozumel. It was interesting just to see how different items are sold/displayed versus in the US. We had a good time being the simple folks we are. That was a very cheap port day for us! Another time, we watched a man with a suitcase on the ground at the exit of a store stuffing it with toothpaste. He had more boxes of toothpaste then I could count. I still can't figure out where or what he was doing with so many tubes of toothpaste. I wanted to stop and make a suggestion that if he took the tubes out of the boxes, he would fit way more into the suitcase. There is a Jack for every Jill. Boatdrill Posted November 26, 2018 #287 Share Posted November 26, 2018 I don't have a Walmart near where I live, so I ventured in to the one in PV. It was well worth it and I had fun. Bought sunscreen, and a much needed new pair of flip flops. This was during an eastbound Panama Canal cruise, so it was a perfect stop for "supplies". If the person looked like someone from the cruise this would indeed by odd. Recognize, however, that many small merchants in Mexico go to places like Sam's, Walmart and Costco rather than an US-style wholesaler to buy things for resale. Maybe that is what you saw happening. gulfwench Posted November 30, 2018 #289 Share Posted November 30, 2018 Cheap T-shirts! And especially if you have been to this port many times, it gives you a little walk and some cheap beer outside the ship. I will be there again in February and will probably just get off the ship for a couple of local beers or maybe, go downtown.
jamesnnb Posted November 30, 2018 #290 Share Posted November 30, 2018 It CAN be fun and actually allow you to get a feel for the town/people. There is a grocery store near WalMart and we went in to get some flowers and OJ. I saw a bin of lots and lots of limes and snapped a pix as I found it to be an interesting pix. A young lady came up and asked if I was a spy for WalMart. haha. No, I said I just thought it made a pretty pix. She was so nice and fun. We spoke for a bit (we use to stay in PV for weeks at a time and love PV). She spoke of her parents and where she was living in town and we exchanged fun stories about PV and how it has grown. She said her parents would be in the store later in the day and she would love it if we would come back and she wanted to introduce us to them. So, a quick trip to a local grocery store added charm to our visit. Same sort of thing when you take the local bus instead of a taxi....fun is where you find it. CRUZBUDS Posted December 7, 2018 #291 Share Posted December 7, 2018 Watch out in the supermarket adjacent to the pier. We were greeted by an extremely friendly and helpful; person when we entered. It took us too long to realize he was a time-share sales person with a kiosk in the store. He acted like he worked there.

If you look up persistence in the dictionary you'll see a picture of a time-share salesperson the only reason I went into walmart is that they have a money changer their. So I exchanged $5USD for pesos. in small coins. I was able to take the bus right into the malecon for 15 pesos for 2 people or 39 cents, but you need exact change. The bus is reliable, they come one after the other. On the return trip look for the bus that says Walmart on it front.

This is not an uncommon practice here in Mexico. Those of us who live here are used to the Time Share sales folks (I think they prefer to call it "fractional ownership") and you can find these folks in some supermarkets and even restaurants! And beware that they also do their thing in some shops (especially dedicated Tequila stores. The first few years that we wintered here in PV, I used to have trouble finding products in my supermarket of choice (Mega). There were a couple of Time Share sales folks who worked in that store and not only did they speak excellent English, but they really knew the store. So I would often ask the Time Share folks where to find such and such a product :). I might be one of the few folks on earth who found something positive about these Time Share "sharks." To Walmart's credit, they do not allow Time Share Sharks to prey on the customers inside their stores. Hank

Rare 4cats4me Posted February 23, 2019 #300 Share Posted February 23, 2019 We had to go buy Vick’s mentholatum since one of us contracted a cold. So glad to have a Walmart nearby. Great service , too, unlike here in the states.
