Colo Cruiser Posted August 23, 2016 #2 Share Posted August 23, 2016 (edited) Kotor excellent. :) Albania not so much. :( They do have a few nice beaches though. Edited August 23, 2016 by Colo Cruiser
Rare Coral Posted August 23, 2016 #3 Share Posted August 23, 2016 I am embarrassed to say that when I read "Albania" the first thing that came to my mind was the book "Wag the Dog" in which the US goes to war with Albania to avoid a political scandal domestically. THAT's where I've heard about it. Still need to find a map...

duck addict Posted August 24, 2016 #6 Share Posted August 24, 2016 Thanks for the update. Have not gotten email yet, but it may be going to my TA. On the cruise personalized the new port shows, but no excursions are listed yet. I suspect they are scrambling to arrange them.

Rosethorn40 Posted August 24, 2016 #8 Share Posted August 24, 2016 How did you find out? I haven't received an email yet, but I knew Carnival had cancelled Kusadasi on their September cruises, and when I look at the Princess web site for our cruise on September 17th I see Kusadasi and Malta both cancelled, and Kotor & Corfu substituted. I can understand Kusadasi, but why Malta?

Pam in CA Posted August 24, 2016 #10 Share Posted August 24, 2016 Albania has some interesting, little known Roman ruins but other than that, not much to see. I'd go back just to re-see the ruins.
umbluemusic Posted August 24, 2016 #11 Share Posted August 24, 2016 I spent time in Kosovo and the people I met often vacationed on the beaches in Albania - I would definitely like to stop there on a cruise! I can understand Kusadasi, but why Malta? Probably because of time between each port etc. Malta is quite a bit further away and Kotor and Corfu are not too far from each other. HEINER Posted August 24, 2016 #14 Share Posted August 24, 2016 For those of you that have been to Kotor what did you do there? Should we look at a private or Princess tour? Or is it a walkable port? Our September 10 cruise Kotor was just added today with the cancellation of Kusadasi Turkey. Thanks for any information.

The city center is basically across the street from the main pier. You can climb the 1360 steps to the Castle of San Giovanni on the mountain. Marmaduke Posted August 24, 2016 #17 Share Posted August 24, 2016 Kotor - Get up early and enjoy the sail up the 'fjord' to Kotor the scenery is beautiful. As previously said, kotor is small and easily done on foot. You can get a local bus from the town down to Perast which is small village opposite the little island with the church on it, which you will pass by on your sail in. You can aslo get a boat over to visit the church.
Esprit Posted August 24, 2016 #18 Share Posted August 24, 2016 I'd recommend climbing to the Castle. I first climbed to the Chapel half way up with my parents 45 years ago. To go all the way to the top where the Castle is 40 years later was amazing.
westendgirl Posted August 24, 2016 #19 Share Posted August 24, 2016 We're looking forward to revisiting Kotor next Spring. It's a very interesting, historic and walkable city - and the sail-in and sail-away were magical. Would also love to visit Albania which I understand is very under-developed and a bit of a time capsule. I've taken photos of the coast adjacent to Corfu but we've never docked there. Enjoy your new ports J & G!!

Did a Princess tour to the chapel on the island and the town of Perast a few years ago, which was very pleasant.
Rare PescadoAmarillo Posted August 24, 2016 Author #21 Share Posted August 24, 2016 Seems interesting to visit both. I agree. There is no place I don't want to go at least once (and that includes the nasty places, just to see for myself).
sunsetbeachgal Posted August 24, 2016 #22 Share Posted August 24, 2016 (edited) I feel so sad for the good people in Kusadisi who depend on the seasonal tourism business for their income. Some of our best and most knowledgeable private tour guides have been here. On both of our prior Med. cruises, we traveled in groups with family or friends who were first time visitors to Kusadisi and Ephesus, and in both cases the tour of Ephesus was the highlight of the trip. I hope at some point the cruise lines resume stops here. I hope the substituted stops are enjoyable! Rare cruisequeen4ever Posted August 26, 2016 #23 Share Posted August 26, 2016 We were hoping Kusadasi would have been canceled last June because we've been there and done that and weren't really interested. Kotor is awesome, and Albania is at least different. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
