Any way to increase likelihood of getting an upsell call?

cruzsnooze; If you are to receive an upsell it's from your category to one up. Since you are in an inside cabin IF you receive an upsell it will probably be to an ocean view.

Not necessarily true. I had a balcony room, and was upgraded to a full suite....aft.... and was it a wonderful upsell.....just depends on the inventory...

Why is it no surprise the upsell dept gave me incorrect information.

If you state on the booking you don't want a free upgrade, do they still offer you upsells? At least with upsells, it sounds as though you have the option to see what they are offering and can accept or decline. Am I correct in assuming that if you allow a "free" upgrade, you have to take it whether you like it or not?

If you indicate will not accept upgrades, then you still might be contacted for an upsell.

If you indicate you will accept upgrades and do get one but do not like it, you might be able to get your original cabin back if they have not already assigned it to someone else.

Above assume the upgrade is not from having a GTY without a cabin assigned yet. In this case, you can ask to be put back into the GTY status if you do not like what you were assigned, but there is no guarantee you will like the next cabin assigned any better.

If you are upgraded but do not like the cabin location, you can ask to be assigned to any other available cabin in the exact same level assigned.

When we booked our inside cabin for an Alaskan cruise in September, we indicated that we would not take an upgrade, but we received an upsell offer just now for a balcony cabin for $299 each. We sort of decided not to take it, but I'm still thinking about it. It's only a 7-day cruise, and $598 is a lot of money to us right now.

In another thread, a person reported that they received an e-mail from Princess say they soon would receive an upgrade offer (which sounds like an upsell offer to me).

This is for a cruise in 2018.

So it sounds like Princess is starting the push to have you pay more much earlier than in the past.

I agree that the upsell offers are coming much earlier these days. We received an offer to upgrade from our mini suite guarantee to a full suite last week, one day after the final payment date for our October cruise. In the past these offers have come anywhere from two weeks to two months prior to the cruise.

With all the many posts on Cruise Critic by people wishing to be contacted with an upsell offer, it is no surprise that Princess would be making upsell offers earlier than in the past.

The one time I got an upgrade was the one time I booked a guarantee; I was assigned a MF mini suite, the lowest category on Royal Princess but a couple of months before sailing was upgraded to a MA, the highest. Oddly enough, a couple of weeks before sailing I received an upsell offer to an aft Owner's suite which unfortunately I took--but that's another story.

We just accepted an upsell offer to an owners suite in a transatlantic on the Royal. Interested in what the experience was. Agree with other posters. Keep an eye on your email. Our upsell came in July for a SSeotember 9th cruise

Do you mind if I ask how much the upsell was, and what category you were booked in?

Thanks.

Since our cruise still has a lot of inside and ocean view cabins available, I don't anticipate any upsells/upgrades for us. We are in a BE.

There really isn't any way to know how many cabins of a type are available.

The cruise line webpages may show a large number of cabins available to book but that doesn't account for guaranteed bookings which have not been assigned to a specific cabin. For example, a web page may show 100 cabins available when the cruise line has booked 95 guaranteed cabins. Guaranteed bookings, by definition, have not been assigned to a cabin. If you book a specific cabin, then you can choose from the 100 cabins that are available. However, the cruise line can only accept another five bookings in the category.

I got my first Princess upsell offer ever a couple weeks ago. It's for an Alaska cruise and the offer came shortly after final payment. I was booked in an obstructed OV and I got a premium balcony. It's a good location, too. I usually book balcony or mini's but I decided to try to save some money on this cruise. I was really happy to get the offer. They emailed my TA. Fortunately, she got me on the phone right away and I asked her to jump on it. She called and left a message. They called back within a half hour. I'm traveling solo and my offer was for $399. That would have likely been $199 per person, so I thought it was a good offer. I'm happy.

Just want to add that I usually mark my cabins with no upgrade, so I don't expect offers and have never gotten an upsell offer. I just thought I'd see what would happen if I marked it that I'd accept upgrades and was pleasantly surprised. I had gotten upgrades many years ago, but I'm pickier about cabin locations now.

We've been offered 4 upsells. One I slept in and missed it :(, one was too expensive, and the last two we've accepted. I have noticed the last two upsells came the day after final payment and were from mini suites to full suites. I don't use a TA and book direct with Princess, so I can make the call myself when the email arrives, and as was previously posted don't hesitate if you think you might like to take the offer, as when you call, you leave your information on an answering machine and calls are returned in the order they are received. The information you will need to leave when making the call will be indicated in the email. And as was previously posted, go online while you wait, and see which cabins are available in your upsell category so you will be prepared when Princess calls you. Even if they sell all the upsells they will still call you to inform you that they have sold out (know that from the one that I slept in on and called in late, once again :() Also when I book I always book a cabin I will be happy with, and tell them to mark it as META upgrade only, so the only upgrade would be up an entire stateroom category(mini to full suite, balcony to mini, inside to balcony, etc.), and I also ask them to note on the booking that we would be interested in an upsell. Not sure if that helps, but I have called in after booking to link to another booking and asked the CSR to review the booking and it was noted on the booking. Hope the info helps. Good luck, hope you get your upsell offer.

There are many who book a voyage hoping for an upgrade or upsell and arrive on the ship disappointed they received neither offer and are stuck in a cabin they won't enjoy. Always book a cabin that you will enjoy and if you don't get an offer you won't be disappointed.

On this particular voyage, there were so many available inside, balcony and mini-suites until a couple days ago. Certainly there were quite a few that showed open but were part of the gty pool. What took it from showing open to sold out was the promo offered to the "casino whales" at almost free fares. The forward and aft locations on the CB are now showing sold out for the lower balcony categories and mostly sold out for interior cabins. So the gty and promo worked. We probably won't get an upgrade or upsell because our fare for our BE Balcony is higher than the promo but much less than the current fare shown - but it doesn't matter because we are happy with the cabin we chose which we have for this voyage and the next of the BTB.

What is your favorite BE deck/ room area? We are going on BE this time and we are a bit nervous because we had a better cabin last time.
