  1. Always best to name the ship when asking questions like this.
  2. It may vary by line or ship, but none I have ever been on has had them.
  3. I recall when I left the bank it was around $1.20 a year later a friend was heading to the US and I thought about a new camera but it had dropped to around 80c
  4. I know I have said it before but to flesh it out a bit. You need to find wha5 fits you. We like Princess, others don’t. I have friends who will only sail on their own yacht, not even someone else’s. one thinks Cunard it the height of sophistication another hates it but loves Silverseas. A family I know would rather stay home than sail other than Carnival. A dear friend sailed container ships till they told him he was too old, then would only cruise on the old R class ships It is also part of the reason that the two big companies (Carnival and Royal Caribbean) have multiple lines under their umbrellas, to provide various types of cruising for different demographics
  5. History and architecture “The Rocks” area wind hands down, short stroll to the the Opera House, lots of historic buildings just a short walk to under the Bridge. Lots of hotels to choose from. We haven’t stayed at Rydges at The Rocks since it changed from Holiday Inn, though we have stayed at many other Rydges properties, this one was looking a little warn before the change, but for us the location more than made up for that, but plenty of other hotels close by.Pier 1, Park Hyatt, Four Seasons are all worth a look.
  6. Yep, known about it for a while, I just hope Geelong has the infrastructure to handle it, my take is, less hassle than going through Melbourne, but less accommodation options pre crossing.. I do wish they’d go back to sailing out of Sydney.
  7. Sounds like cruising isn’t for the OP. Sure I’ve had changed itineraries, missed ports, excursions cancelled, and a couple of times been disappointed, but not to the degree being shown here. Once I booked to visit one port, and really that was the only reason I booked that cruise, we missed that port due to a Cyclone, but it far from ruined our entire cruise.
  8. Don’t worry Lyle I have only met a couple of them in person, seems I only get to meet mos5 of them once, no idea why that happens
  9. It really comes down to your tastesI know people who love lines you would struggle to get me on again and others who hate the ones we love. When I’m looking to try a new line I make sure it is an itinerary that I really like.
  10. Hearts go out to you mate (it was on the Now for Something different thread)
  11. I’d suggest minimum $100 each and then just use ATM if you need more, but check with your bank if they have a partner bank here tha5 will see you pay less fees, also make sure your card will work with out ATMs
  12. Sorry to hear that Uncle Les, take care, you will be in my thoughts and prayers.
  13. Awful to hear Lyle, but also points out the need for more and better mental health treatment and facilities.
  14. Never tipped on firs5 day, or as I go, never had less than great service. I do go out of my way to be nice, polite and not pushy.
  15. Left my favourite cap behind one cruise sat it on the seat for breakfast, was called away to see someone, never went back. Hat gone.
  16. And back in the days when you didn’t know your cabin before boarding it was a bit like a lucky dip.
  17. But Majestic has been my least liked Princess ship.
  18. Our early cruises they took scooters to a cage near the lift lobby and locked them up and charged them, but that was on a smaller ship. I think it would be a great option for those who only need a scooter for longer distances, freeing up accessible cabins for those needing full features. Once I could have easily got by in my cabin, no longer unfortunately.
  19. I always but the Soda package just for me. MrsG is a coffee drinker, never been a problem on any line I’ve sailed, Princess, Celebrity, P&O, Carnival, Royal, Norwegian, Cunard all fine.
  20. No great secret that we will go to Tas at the drop of a hat. Next cruis includes KI and Adelaide on the way there and back. Wouldnt mind another circumnavigation of Aus with some different ports, one issue is that as ships get bigger the option for ports shrinks.
  21. The fried who offered to cover our medical did a cruise to Europe, paid a Dr and his wife (who was a nurse) to go with them, including their cruise and first class flights, made it half way, airlines wouldn’t let then fly, so chartered a private flight with two more doctors. Unfortunately out of my budget, and as I explaineD to them, my friend not my bank.
  22. We did a round Australia on Diamond a few years ago 32 nights if memory serves included NZ and Bali is was wonderful, Dr would be happy for me to do it again as most of the t8me Medicare would cover me within a day or two. But Hawaii, Insurance wouldn’t cover pre existing back. 35 days needing no medical attention, sure, this month alone, what 17 days, 4 trips to hospital, 4 more ambulance call outs, three trips to doctors, three fairly minor procedures. The costs would bankrupt us, now to be fair a dear friend said “That’s OK I’ll cover any medical costs (and they can afford to). But the big issue was that Mrs G isn’t allowed fly so if we get to Hawaii and I end up in hospital, what does she do, hop on the ship and leave me behind? (As if) or we wait for the first transpacific we can get home, who knows how long that is, maybe a year. Worse financial position that the medical costs. plus our last couple of cruises weren’t kind to the back, neck (and thus the m8ini strokes). So cancelled it.
  23. Sounds great, something for you to look forward to for the next 18 months. We had it booked a couple of years ago, but Doctor made me cancel.
