Princess charged VISA directly and not folio during cruise
Mangrove Snapper replied to Seaspartan's topic in Princess Cruises
I get alerts whenever I use my cards. When I'm on a cruise, I will always get an alert each day for the amount I spent that day on the ship, even though it goes to the folio. They're holds and drop off once the full amount gets posted at the end. I also always get an alert for a charge of approximately $100 about an hour after sailaway on the first day. Same thing - it's a hold and it later goes away. I've had this both on Princess and Celebrity. The final charge which actually posts to my card has always matched the folio. An exception is future cruise deposits where it will go directly to the card and not appear on the folio. But that was explained to me at the time of purchase/booking. -
We were on the Emerald in October and had the Plus package. On the second or third day I thought it would be fun to do the prizes and I opted in via the door. It added $10 per day to the folio. We didn't win but it was fun.

They’re talking about sales in the cruise planner, not cruise fare. They are legit sales. I booked most of our excursions for a Celebrity cruise next December because they were 50%. They will go back up in price in a few days. I also upgraded to premium internet at 50% which is much lower than my captain’s club discount. I have to buy Cheers and internet soon and I would love it if this type of sale were going to occur.

That's cute! I'll take a look at their site.

There has never been a time in humanity's history when there has not been war, various types of unrest, natural disasters, communicable diseases, and people doing terrible things to each other and there never will be. Being in a band, your son likely has some knowledge of the murder of Dimebag Darrell, the Station Nightclub fire, the attack at the Bataclan and the mass shooting at the Rte 91 Harvest Festival at the Mandalay Bay, just to name a few. Yet it sounds like he's still playing so he must realize that the vast majority of events taking place do so safely and without issue. Everyone has different comfort levels with risk and can live their lives accordingly. I don't believe there is such a thing as total safety. Even if I only stayed in my home and didn't interact with anyone I could still slip in my shower, fall down the stairs, or choke on food, to say nothing about cancer which could be spreading without my knowledge. Or my house could suddenly fall through a sinkhole or be destroyed by a hurricane. So I make the best of the time I have and life my life as "be aware but not beware." Like I'm not going to sit on the railing of my stateroom's balcony because that would be dumb and I could fall off. But I'm also not going to go out on the balcony and worry that a rogue wave will suddenly toss me overboard. Personally, I'm not worried about taking cruises right now.

We had a lot of fun! I should have mentioned that. It was crowded but enjoyable.

We were on the Emerald this year 10/7-14, and there was an excursion to Salem offered. We were in Salem for the Haunted Happenings in 2018 for a weekend and it is definitely packed.

We've done three Bermuda cruises with Celebrity - once in June and twice in July. Two were before Covid (2018 & 2019) and the most recent was over this past July 4th so the ship was packed all three times. There were kids on all of the sailings but the ship never felt like it was full of kids. The NCL ship docked with us looked like it had a lot more.

Yes, I had a generic "error" message when I first tried signing in. Then when I finally was able to sign in, I saw a message at the end of all threads that I had to confirm my e-mail address before I could reply. I did this...twice...but the message stayed. Several hours later it's now working. The funny part is I've always used my e-mail address to log on, so that's not a change for me, but maybe it didn't have to be confirmed when I first signed up. -
We were there on 10/15 on the Emerald Princess. Our ship's tenders, and the ones from the Regent Seven Seas Mariner, dropped everyone off at Perrotti Park. It was a great location.

Onboard shops without any shopping bags
Mangrove Snapper replied to Thairific's topic in Princess Cruises
We were either given, or offered, bags every time in the shops on the Emerald during our 10/7 - 10/14 cruise this year. -
Have you sailed with Captain Kate?
Mangrove Snapper replied to Honolulu Blue's topic in Celebrity Cruises
We sailed with her on the Edge on the first cruise after the restart. She seemed great! But so did the other captains we've sailed with. -
Have you ever been on a holiday cruise?

I've lived through a lot of Thanksgivings and the majority were pretty mundane. But I'll never forget being 19 years old and spending Thanksgiving afternoon on a beach in Barbados with my best friend from college. Later on when the ship set sail, they served Thanksgiving dinner. So much fun! -
I'm sure I have 9 or more suits but I've never brought that many on any vacation, cruise or otherwise. If it's a summer cruise or a cruise to warm locales, I'll bring multiples. I don't like re wearing a wet bathing suit so it's good to have more than one. And some suits are more appropriate than others for certain activities. I wear a different suit for snorkeling than I would for going to the beach. Our most recent cruise was to Canada & New England and only had one sea day so I only brought one. I figured we wouldn't have a lot of time for swimming. We always pack a suit in our carry on in case we want to swim on the first day.

Emerald Princess Planks & Steamers?
Mangrove Snapper replied to canadarocks's topic in Princess Cruises
The food was great! We went on the first night of the cruise and there was an Effy event going on at the same time at the Wheelhouse bar so it was busy and we did wait a bit for the food but not terribly long. We would definitely eat there again. -

How can they improve the Yacht Club?
Mangrove Snapper replied to sverigecruiser's topic in MSC Cruises
What's a "woke" activity and a "woke" decoration on a cruise ship? I'm aged 45+. Give me your definition of "woke" so I can see if I''m far from it, just a little bit distant, or maybe right on the button. -
The rum cakes were being sold in the craft market. The fudge store also sold rum cakes.

Must Reads before a Canada/New England Cruise
Mangrove Snapper replied to Islander500's topic in Canada/New England
Last year in Halifax I bought this book at the Maritime Museum: Atlantic's Last Stop: Courage, Folly, and Lies in the White Star Line's Worst Disaster Before Titanic by Robert G. Chaulk. The Atlantic was en route to New York and diverted to Halifax to buy coal. She struck rocks and sank off the coast.
