  1. Wouldn’t surprise me if chengkp75 was captaining! Go Mariners!
  2. Well maybe if Celebrity follows this thread and sees all the recent off-topic posts about other cruise lines, the person in charge of PUPs will offer a new one pronto in hopes of maintaining defectors!
  3. I think we will be fine on our upcoming "Cruise Only" cruise as elite (and if PUPs come our way beforehand elite+). 2 bottles of wine each brought aboard, bloodies at the elite breakfast, and grabbing a water or two with our happy hour cocktails. The internet we get with elite bennies is better than what's included with AI. Paying for a drink or two during the day is negligible. The big difference will be having gratuities added to our final bill.
  4. IDK, but maybe? Just keep checking both on Celebrity's website and here on Cruise Critic.
  5. I plan on looking starting 12/4/2022 when the Europe itineraries are expected to be published as soon as the 5th. On the Celebrity website go to Europe>Iceland. The 2023 Reykjavik to Boston shows up there so hopefully the 2024 Eclipse sailing will be published there rather than under Canada/New England later in the month.
  6. Since the 2023 Iceland/Greenland on the Summit is the itinerary we hope to book for 2024, from the chart is appears that the Eclipse replaces the Summit for NE/Canada? Would being a larger vessel affect the routing? We are especially interested in the Greenland and Canadian Maritimes ports that the Summit visits!
  7. One of the sentence prompts on a test of writing skills I administer in my profession is: "Write a good sentence that tells why it is dangerous to wear headphones when you ride your bike down a busy street." Maybe not as dangerous as the above, but Danger, Danger could apply to wearing headphones on a busy Celebrity walking/running track. I'd suggest that Celebrity should post rules for using the track, e.g. keep right except to pass, single file, etc. but we all know how well rules work for chair hogs.
  8. Learned from my downhill ski days that a loud "On your left" or "On your right" works equally well when approaching a slower walker, runner, etc. Helps the speedier one and the slower one both!
  9. The early bird... Another question: When holding a cabin or actually reserving it online, how is the Cap't Club one category upgrade input and honored?
  10. At what time are the new itineraries released? At midnight? We know the itinerary and desired cabin category we want based on the '23 sailing and want to be prepared to book immediately. Please share any tidbits for booking asap once the schedule is released. Thanks!
  11. If you follow me as I get on an escalator, you'd guess I came from a small town and you'd be wrong! Maybe it's a leftover fear from riding those old wooden escalators in Macy's NYC!
  12. Baltic, although keep in mind that your 14 hours docked in Berlin (Warnemunde) is actually a three hour journey each way from Warnemunde to Berlin! So essentially less than 8 hours in that city. We opted to stay in the port area on our Eclipse Baltic cruise thinking that we'd visit Berlin for a longer time in the future. We did about half a decade later and saw and did so much more than possible on a limited port stop!
  13. When we did this on the Eclipse in 2019 it was a painless move for us from Deck 9 to Deck 6. Having DBiL/DSiL staying in their same cabin for this B2B was a huge help as we kept our "valuables" in their cabin while we left the ship early for a private excursion to Valparaiso.
  14. Jealous! Love Outlander! I wonder if the cruise has a surcharge over cabin price because it is one of Avalon's special ones featuring a popular author... Friends of ours did the Prague extension prior to our Danube cruise and used Avalon air. None in the group of 8 had complaints about either. We were very pleased with our Danube cruise on the Illumination. Great guides in small groups of about 15-20 people (except in Vienna). We were on the Swan deck and have booked it again for our Rhine cruise. Looking forward to being able to use the upper deck since the Danube in November was too damp and chilly to be up top.
  15. We are disembarking Avalon's Romantic Rhine in Basel, but rather than book with Avalon we are DIYing it to Lucerne. We'll take a taxi to the Basel train station for the @1 hour + journey. We chose the Hotel Continental Park since it is walkable from Luzern Central Station but there are numerous other options nearby. We plan on a walking tour of the city and a trip to Mount Pilatus using the Silver Pass option. Our cost will be about half of what we'd pay Avalon! We will fly back to the US from ZRH after spending 4 nights in the Berner Oberland for hiking and an excursion to the Schilthorn, famous for its ties to 007!
  16. Those little hand sanitizers and holders sold by Bath and Body Works are always at the ready when attached to the seapass lanyard! For the guys, less scented options are sold elsewhere and could be attached to belt loops for convenience. One of those is always hooked to my purse strap. I prefer squeezing sanitizer vs. shaking my wet washed hands under an air dryer or into a Dyson!
  17. @dacfI have a different suggestion for you. Forgo a river cruise and take a train from Vienna to one or more European cities that aren't too far from there. Further south along the Danube are Bratislava and Budapest. Prague and Munich are other options. Spend a few days in the city or cities of your choice and enjoy the nightlife in each. If you are a bit more adventurous you could rent a car, although having a vehicle is not ideal in the major cities I mentioned. Or fly to another city such as Paris via one of the many low-cost airlines such as Easy Jet. While river cruising is an excellent way to explore along the Danube and other European rivers, it might be too staid for you two.
  18. Waiting, waiting, waiting..... Need PUP activities totaling10 points to be awarded and posted before our February cruise!
  19. Fingers X'd that the Iceland-Boston itinerary will happen in 2024! Will that fall under Europe or under Canada/New England?
  20. Not forced, but a friend on a SB Millennium cruise came down with covid and had the option of disembarking at the next port, which was Ketchikan, and quarantining there for 5 days OR continuing the cruise til it ended in Vancouver and quarantining there for 10 days. A forced choice in effect. She chose Ketchikan, and since her flights were booked via Choice Air, they arranged her flights home from there at the 5 day mark. The hotel Celebrity sent her to was pretty dodgy, but she was able to move to another after one miserable night.
  21. Friends of ours booked us a Cruise Later Deposit when they were on a September Millennium cruise, paying $200. We have in our possession a certificate that states: IMPORTANT: To secure your exclusive offer, please remember to complete your booking within 1 YEAR.
  22. You will not be in your cabin on a river cruise to the extent you are on an ocean voyage. I suggest Avalon for their amazing panorama cabins. And as Daisi posted alcoholic beverages in addition to the usual wine/beer at meals is now included at certain times. Consider that you may be “buoyed” up to other river boats which could mean your balcony vista is that of the cabin on the boat next door. When we had to cross a Uniworld boat to get to shore, I was not impressed with its decor!
  23. Our only HAL cruise too when she was brand new in 2018. We walked to her berth immediately from the EDGE. I felt like I was a time traveler back to the 1950s on the “new” Nieuw Statendam. One and done!
