George C Posted November 6, 2015 #1 Share Posted November 6, 2015 What is your all time favorite ship that doesn't exist today?? My 1st of over 50 cruises was 40 years ago, so many of the ships are no longer sailing, but to pick one it would have to be SS Norway which I cruised 7 times in 80's and 90's including my honeymoon in 1991, was the largest cruise ship when I 1st sailed her and now would be small or mid-sized at 75,000 tons or so

seadancer Posted November 28, 2015 #3 Share Posted November 28, 2015 SS Seabreeze but at least she's at the bottom of the ocean instead of the scrappers in India
NJ Fred Posted November 28, 2015 #4 Share Posted November 28, 2015 (edited) TSS Fairsea (Sitmar) / Fair Princess (Princess). I think She was melted down for razor blades - - elegant lady She was! Edited November 28, 2015 by NJ Fred
pbnjrockette Posted November 28, 2015 #5 Share Posted November 28, 2015 She may still exist, I don't know... but it was the " SS Independence" a beautiful ship that sailed around the Hawaiian Islands with the American Hawaii Cruises. Darn...she was scrapped in 2009... :( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SS_Independence#/media/File:SS_Independence_1951.jpg
Host Walt Posted November 28, 2015 #6 Share Posted November 28, 2015 TSS Fairsea (Sitmar) / Fair Princess (Princess). I think She was melted down for razor blades - - elegant lady She was! Loved that ship and her sister the Fairwind./became the first Dawn Princess. I remember the Fairsea sailaway with Bobby McFarrin singing "Don't Worry, Be Happy" which set just the right tone for the cruise. It was the recording, of course, because sailaway was at 1:00am from San Juan and not too many people stayed up that late. At least on the Fair Sea we had a live band playing the Love Boat theme as we sailed away from Long Beach, CA in the late afternoon.

rkacruiser Posted December 2, 2015 #8 Share Posted December 2, 2015 Rotterdam V is my favorite. Royal Viking Sky shares many fond memories for many different reasons with S. S. Montery of Pacific Far East Lines (she was a former Matson ship) as a number 2. Both are drastically different ships with quite different cruise experiences. Both were "gems" in their own right. DaisyGirl55 Posted December 9, 2015 #10 Share Posted December 9, 2015 (edited) Definitely the SS Norway. It was our first cruise ever and we were hooked! We sailed on this beautiful ship 2 more times. So sad how this once amazing ship ended up. Edited December 9, 2015 by DaisyGirl55
Cincicruiser Posted December 13, 2015 #11 Share Posted December 13, 2015 Seabreeze..............She had a cabin for 1. Back then I would call my favorite TA and ask her when that cabin was available. Then I would sign up for my vacations. It was $199.00 for a 7 day cruise. 2nd is the SS Norway. Cruised her in the 80's. The balcony cabins had a curtain you could use to divide the bed from the "living" room.
Loveboat1995 Posted December 13, 2015 #12 Share Posted December 13, 2015 Tie; Marco Polo and Norway. Are you talking about the Marco Polo operated by CMV? It is still around. Or is there another Marco Polo that you are referring to?
Loveboat1995 Posted December 13, 2015 #13 Share Posted December 13, 2015 (edited) I never had the chance to sail them, but my favorites would probably be Costa's Eugenio C., Union-Castle's Windsor Castle and Cunard's old Ivernia. I do own furnishings from each of them, however. Edited December 13, 2015 by Loveboat1995

shipgeeks Posted January 23, 2016 #18 Share Posted January 23, 2016 So hard to choose just one. Meridian. Our cabin attendants on last X cruise were both onboard when she sank. All aboard were rescued. Regal Empress. SeaBreeze, OceanBreeze, IslandBreeze, Rembrandt. Norway. Caronia. All wonderful. Sigh.

DocF Posted January 25, 2016 #20 Share Posted January 25, 2016 Goodrich Transit Lines flagship Alabama. This tough little laker was basically and icebreaker that could carry passengers and freight. The hull may still exist, but that is not certain. Doc
