LIVE From the Jewel of the Seas 5 - 14 April 2012

Recommended Posts

We are packed and loaded and as soon as I hit "Submit" I will shut down the computers and we are on our way to Tampa.

But first a wonderful breakfast at the Waffle House at I-95 and US-1.

We have three Wiener Dogs and two Cats now and to cost to board them would be about the same as the cruise. We were lucky to have found a fantastic young man who comes by every day and cleans up, feeds & waters everyone, and gives them some loving play time.

Next post will be from Tampa... :D

I love Radiance class ships and I'm sure Judith will too. And Tampa is a beautiful port to sail out of!

Trainman, congratulations on your weight loss. It truly is an accomplishment. I had read your review from the cruise you took and said goodbye to Carol and was truly moved by it and was in tears from page one. Glad to see that you have found love again with Judith and I wish both of you much love and happiness together as you continue to cruise and travel the world. I look forwarding to being on the Jewel with you and enjoying your review.

I wonder if he is onboard yet? I wonder how long it will take to get his internet setup! (I'm kidding folks!) but looking forward to it as this is his first review where I'm getting on when he is getting off, or should I say leaving?

I know he wants to get on early, but his cruise doesn't start till tomorrow.:)

Well, hurray! I found a Trainman2 post before it was 45 pages long!:D

Congrats on the weight loss. I know how hard it is to maintain while cruising - remember that, if you do gain weight, some of it may be due to the salt in the food - RCI tends to go a little heavy on the shaker - so some of it will come off quickly when you get home.

Enjoy the Jewel - my favorite RCI ship - can't wait to see some pictures!

Just what every guy needs two channels to watch at the same time! You here reporting live on the Jewel and Radio over on the Celebrity side reporting from the Silhouette. Two cruises for the price of none, can't beat that!

We have arrived safely in Tampa with no speeding tickets.

The last 30 minutes of the drive on I-4 and I-275 were stop and go and when we arrived at the hotel our room was not ready even though we had requested an early check in.

We killed some time at a great little Cuban restaurant next to the hotel. Neither of us was hungry but we each got drinks and I got some red bean soup with rice which was excellent. Having made a purchase we didn't feel guilty sitting around reading and killing time.

We get a free shuttle to the Port but the first one doesn't leave until 11 am tomorrow for a 30 minute trip depending on the traffic which would put us at the port around 11:30 am.

At the east coast ports we have always been on the ship by 11:30 so we may get antsy and take a taxi over there earlier.

We are dining tonight with some CC'ers we met on our Roll Call.

More later...

YEEEAAAA!!!! Another cruise with Trainman and Judith. Can't wait for the update reviews and photos. As others have said, keep up the great work with your weight loss. Your goal was 280 before you board the ship and your weight this morning was 281? I would consider that goal accomplished! :p If you gain a some weight on this cruise I'm sure you will be able to take it off once you are back home. Hope to be able to cruise one day with you and Judith. Enjoy your cruise!!!! :D

I have had some recent health problems that are explained on the thread below but I am doing better now and on the South Beach Diet. So far I have lost 49 pounds.

http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1606166

I had hoped to board the ship weighing less than 280 but I didn't make it. My weight this morning was 281, down from 330. My target is 220 so I still have a long way to go and lots of new (skinny guy)

Congratulations on taking charge of your health! Now I am really looking forward to this review, including the food porn!! As a life long skinny chick, I usually read your reviews but think, I would never eat that stuff!;) Now maybe your food porn will look more like the stuff I like to eat:p

Can't wait to sail along, ( I loved Jewel!) and I'm interested in how the b2b goes, it's tempting because some of the ships I like in the Caribbean are doing short itineraries.

Happy Boarding tomorrow!

My last cruise on the Jewel was about three years ago on a Partial Transit of the Panama Canal with my former wife, Carol, who died almost two years ago.

Judith and I both lost spouses but we are lucky to have found each other and we are able to talk openly and easily about our times with our former spouses.

Here is a photo of Carol and I on the Jewel three years ago with the Hotel Director who was a great guy! I can't recal his name and am wondering if he is still on the Jewel.

This is Robert Taggart, RCCL number one HD by any shape or form. He unfortunately is not on the jewel and has not been in about a year and a half. He got transferred to the Voyager, and then transferred from their when they were told they were going to asia, then was on the Navigator(which he loved going out of NO because he is the biggest saints fan), and he just just recently is on vacation. I do believe on right now Adriana is onboard, she is wonderful unfortunate she is not always present, but if you get to talk to her she is a delight

I'm looking forward to your review and photos. I'm with the crowd getting on the Jewel when you're done with your trip. I'm bouncing off the walls already, six more work days for me :)

Congratulations on your weight loss. I hope you can at least maintain your weight on the cruise. I usually don't have a hard time on cruises. I eat very light for breakfast and lunch and then eat whatever I want for dinner. This works very well when I cruise solo, but for some reason I succumb to peer pressure when cruising with others who like to eat more.

George (moosethecaboose) and his Wife, Mary, came by the Hotel, picked us up, and took us to dinner at a fantastic BBQ place!

After dinner they toured us around Tampa, Ybor City, and the Port.

George and I have a common interest in railroading and model trains and we had a great time together.

They will be boarding the Jewel tomorrow afternoon.

You meet the nicest people on Cruise Critic!

Robert was a Great Guy and came by the Diamond Lounge just about every night to visit with everyone. He is the only Senior Officer who ever did that on all my my RCI Cruises (230 days)

It really made us feel like we were welcome and that RCI really cared about its most loyal and experienced cruisers.
