Live from the Caribbean Princess mystery cruise.

I really wanted to book this cruise because of a group that is going to celebrate someone's birthday. But I was already booked to go to Myrtle Beach next week. I feel bad for the group which is going but glad we went to Bermuda last week after Hurricane Rafael.

Here is something I just thought about, is Princess hoping that a lot of people cancel before the cancel this cruise to save money. We have the Weather Channel on and going out to see really is not a good idea.

Princess doesn't benefit much if people cancel. They make less money on the ship (casino, drinks, shops, etc..) and the employees (waiters and room stewards) don't get tips. Princess wants all of their ships to sail full. Staff are not happy if they are not getting paid. Not a win win situation for Princess by any means.

From what I understand, there has been a lot of cancellations... 'course Princess keeps the fare at this point, but I'm sure they would rather have the passengers onboard to spend money in the casino, for drinks, etc.

I have no doubt there are a lot of cancellations. I am guessing most people on the ship would be within driving distance with it being a 4 night cruise. Especially with the potential for flooding at the pier parking area.

For those who cruise, I hope you have an enjoyable time.

Carolyn, Hannibal, hope to meet you on Saturday...looking forward to the Cruise to Somewhere! At least, we hope it leaves Brooklyn! I was thinking about the extra day as well since Wednesday may not be good for us to come back...we'll see!

Plus, the staff lose their tips.

Cruise lines sell cabins at a loss. Their profit comes from onboard spending. Fewer onboard, less or no profit. They would much rather the passengers were onboard the ship.

Princess isn't going to save a lot of money if a lot of people cancel. The food and staffing contracts have been in place for months and really can't be changed at the last minute.

They will just lose the money that people typically spend on board.

Are there any shops outside the Boston cruise terminal?

We always like to pick up a few trinkets and not sure how the weather will be for walking around.

Thanks for any info.

No on the shops at the port.

They will run a bus into Quincy Market at $12 r/t.

Was just there on the cb in July and that was the program.

I am starting this thread one day early. We were originally scheduled to be going to Bermuda as our only port of call but, due to hurricane Sandy, Bermuda has been cancelled. If another port can be arranged Princess will notify us when we check in. Otherwise we will have a cruise to nowhere for four days.

I flew down to Brooklyn from Vermont yesterday. Today we went into Manhattan and shopped and had lunch at Eatily, yummy pizza and wine. What a fantastic place! Very expensive though! We purchased some wine and lemoncello for the trip. Of course we are glued to the TV listening to the weather forecast but are excited to begin our adventure in our first suite ever. I am traveling with my best friend Cathy who some of you know from previous cruises.

To my fellow cruisers, please feel free to jump in and post your experiences, and don't forget your motion sickness meds!

Wish us luck on our mystery cruise.

Eataly is delicious, and you had a nice day to wander around the city! The CB is a great ship, was on her for the day two weeks ago. You'll have an adventure no matter where you go, have a safe and wonderful time.

Just got a note saying we will be stopping in Boston at some point.

Let's all be positive and make this a fun adventure.

Caribbean Princess

Voyage B237

4-day cruise

Updated as of October 26, 2012 at 10pm PDT

We look forward to welcoming our passengers onboard Saturday. As we previously communicated, we made the decision to cancel our call to Bermuda to avoid the worst of the storm with predicted strong winds and high swells. While we make every effort to sail our itineraries as originally planned, the safety and security of our passengers and crew is our highest priority and this decision, while disappointing, is necessary.

We currently expect that we will enjoy a call to Boston, Massachusetts during this cruise. The exact timing of our call will be confirmed once passengers are onboard and is dependent upon weather conditions. The Shore Excursions team will have information on tour descriptions, times, and prices available at the Shore Excursions Desk once the timing of the call is determined.

For those who purchased Princess Vacation Protection and would like to review their options, please contact your travel agent or Princess for additional information. We have limited availability on other ships and itineraries.

For those passengers who are driving to the pier, we have been advised that the parking area at the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal is prone to flooding. For our passengers who were planning to drive and park at the pier, it is strongly recommended that instead of parking at the pier you make alternative arrangements.

We will continue to provide updates on Princess.com as more information becomes available.

Boston! Whoo Hoo! Very awesome. Of course, stepping aboard the lovely CB is lovely on it's own. I'm ready to have an adventure! By the way, I didn't get that note???

Getting in the shower now, checking my Jersey Shore home one more time (pictures perhaps in case it's not there when I get back) and headed to Brooklyn. See you in about 3 hours! Did anyone stop for bagels?

From what I have been hearing on the news I think you will all be safer on the ship then I will be on land. They are evacuating Fire Island now.

Roland they are saying that the flooding could get so bad that it could close down the NY subway system for weeks. What is your opinion having been employed by the MTA for years.

Right now it looks like the problem on land is going to be power outages. A cold front is going to follow the storm causing the temps to drop. For me this means no heat since my heating system requires electric to run. So I won't be sporting Bermuda shorts either. I have a very expensive bottle of Remy Martin that I may have to break open to keep warm.

I will keep you posted from land for as long as I have eclectic and internet. I guess I could still use Tapatalk on my phone if the electric goes out. I will have to charge my phone in the car.

Happy sailing....Be Safe
