NeurosurgeryNP Posted October 28, 2012 #151 Share Posted October 28, 2012 I'm a bit confused. I'm hoping to board the CB on Wednesday (already in out hotel, relaxing). I thought it docked in Brooklyn. I've never taken a cruise out of NYC. Are Redhook and Brooklyn the same thing? Yes. Red Hook is a section of Brooklyn. I've never taken a cruise out of NYC. Are Redhook and Brooklyn the same thing? Yes. The Red Hook pier is in Brooklyn. This is the pier Princess usually uses. Just an FYI if they have to switch piers - there is a pier in Manhattan also (New York Cruise Terminal).

I've never taken a cruise out of NYC. Are Redhook and Brooklyn the same thing?Yes. Red Hook is in Brooklyn. MA is shut down for Monday and possibly Tuesday. At this point, I doubt the CB is going to Boston. It might go to St. John's or be a cruise to nowhere. It's a possibility the ship won't dock in NY until Wednesday. Those on the next cruise won't get any specific news until plans are finalized. There's no point in notifying passengers one thing only to have it change 24 hours later. compozer Posted October 28, 2012 #156 Share Posted October 28, 2012 the ship is 21 nautical miles out of Boston right now. A hour ago they announced that all shops and the casino would close at 7:30 because of customs regulations. We were suppose to dock at 11:30 tonight so maybe we are ahead of schedule. No new updates from the bridge.
SoBaycruiser Posted October 28, 2012 #157 Share Posted October 28, 2012 Just looking at the ships that just left NY at this site: http://www.marinetraffic.com/ais/default.aspx?level0=100 And can't believe that the Norwegian Jewel and Explorer of the Seas are both headed south. The Jewel says Port Canaveral and Explorer of the Seas says Bermuda. I don't envy those people at all.
flhokie Posted October 28, 2012 #158 Share Posted October 28, 2012 They just had on the news that the Jewel of the Seas is currently docked in Boston and will not be sailing until Tuesday. My parents are on the Jewel. They just had to move docks in Boston to allow a Princess ship to dock in Boston (dad said that the ship was majorly rocking & rolling just during that short move). Iamcruzin Posted October 28, 2012 #160 Share Posted October 28, 2012 The weather should be much improved on Weds, but Red Hook was evacuated, so lets hope there is a port there for the CB to come back to. Be safe everyone. Last time I was on CB to Red Hook the ship crashed into the dock and took out the gangway. We didn't disembark until after 12noon. That was just a very windy day in early May. They are saying that we could still experience hurricane force winds up to 3 days after the storm passes. So I could see not being able to dock on Wed. compozer Posted October 28, 2012 #161 Share Posted October 28, 2012 Composer - Why do you say there is no way you would use the egg crate mattress things? Because they have been out in the halls rolled up on numerous days (I suppose people have requested them and the steward had them sitting in the hall until he got to those cabins) and both my husband and i commented that they look yucky and wouldn't want to sleep on them. That is just us - They probably sanitize them between cruises. I know there would be a mattress pad on top of them but they looked like they were sitting out at the curb waiting for the garbage pickup.
Iamcruzin Posted October 28, 2012 #162 Share Posted October 28, 2012 Just dropped my son off the train station to get back to NYC before mass transit stops. Here in CT, a town on the coast is already flooding and the storm hasn't even arrived! Be safe I live on the South Shore of Long Island and the media seems to be very concerned about tidal surges from the Long Island Sound hitting Connecticut. They are comparing the flooding to the major hurricane that hit Long Island in 1938.

strawbs1 Posted October 29, 2012 #166 Share Posted October 29, 2012 If you run into Stephen Card, a maritime artist who's celebrating his 60th birthday on the sailing, tell him Judi and Michael say happy birthday...and to have fun in...B-B-B-B-Boston. Poor guy, part of the sailing involved visiting an exhibition of Stephen's work in Bermuda! What a total bummer for him.
SoBaycruiser Posted October 29, 2012 #167 Share Posted October 29, 2012 CB meeting the pilot ship just outside Boston Harbor: http://marinetraffic.com/ais/ Really? I just looked and the CP is still 10 miles out. Also it looks like the Crystal Symphany has pulled in behind Jewel of the Seas. It still looks like CP is headed that way but taking it's time. The CB (the CP is sailing in Southeast Asia) will probably dock when the harbormaster decides it will dock.

I used CP for Caribbean Princess since that is the ship we are talking about. Is it like LAX is the airport dis nation for Los Angeles? Is CB is the official designation for Caribbean Princess? Just curious as oven ever seen a list before.
Seafoam Green Posted October 29, 2012 #170 Share Posted October 29, 2012 CB is nearing Black Falcon pier now. High tide is at 11:21pm. It is better for them to be traveling with the incoming tidal flow. With schools being requested to close and Monday being a day when many places (restaurants, etc) can often be closed, I wonder what will be available to those who want to venture off the ships tomorrow? If it looks like it makes no sense (like CB) them its already being used ny another ship. IE Crown Princess = KP
sallybrown2012 Posted October 29, 2012 #172 Share Posted October 29, 2012 As far as visiting Boston goes, I would imagine that many places that cater to tourists will still be open, even if the weather is bad. Restaurants don't want to lose a day of earnings, and businesses in Boston are used to bad weather. If you are able to leave the ship and visit Fanueil Hall or other sights around Boston, please give it a try - it's a really nice city (when there isn't a hurricane). Hopefully Princess can give you an idea of what's open before you leave the ship.

Just curious as oven ever seen a list before.Yes, it's sort of the official designation. If you go to the Princess website and select "Ships" and select a specific ship, check the URL. Princess uses a 2-letter abbreviation for each ship. CP = Sea Princess CO = Coral Princess CB = Caribbean Princess KP = Crown Princess
