Is print copy of New York Times still delivered to cabin?

I was telling my mom (a 4-star Mariner) that she could read her beloved NYT online for free on ship computers. She said HAL used to give a small print NYT at the cabin door every morning - she especially liked the crossword puzzle. I said I would find out if they still do that - do they?

It is still printed daily but not always delivered. It is available in Neptune Lounge, Lido, Explorations Cafe and perhaps other locations around the ship IF it is not delivered to your Mom's cabin.

No, I believe that these print copies are no longer being delivered to the mailslots outside the stateroom doors.

Was available 'on request' on the Amsterdam in December, could be picked up at the Front Desk along with the Australian, Canadian and British version of their news of the day.

We had great fun comparing the weather reports in all of them!

Not only not delivered, but I question as to how many they actually do print to leave in the selected locations. In November on Zuiderdam, we were able to pick up a copy just twice in 14 days; the rest of the time, they were gone by mid-morning apparently. Darned if I'm setting my clock for 8 AM on a cruise just to get a 4-page mini paper. Really irritating. Another HAL cutback thanks to the sharp pencil boys in Seattle.

I believe the cabin delivery has stopped as many didn't read it at all, so it was a waste of paper and time. But there has always been, since the cabin delivery stopped, at least on the HAL cruises we've been on (many) a rack at the Guest Relations desk, a stack of them at the door of the MDR at breakfast and others have said at the Lido too; we don't eat breakfast there so I can't personally say. There's a rack with all newspapers (different languages, etc) in the Explorations area and in the Neptune, as previously mentioned, if you are visiting there. On a couple of occasions I didn't find any left in the rack and a visit to the Guest Relations desk produced a copy printed off just for me, right on the spot.

I think you will be able to get a copy just fine without getting up extra-early. Sometimes in Europe, or other areas with a significant time difference from New York, will find the paper considerably later, earlier, depending on the situation.

totally agree -as to the availability - lots at the Front Desk - and on our last European cruise I was AMAZED at how many languages they were offered in (Prinsendam).

I recall at least, a US version, along with a Canadian version, plus Dutch, German, Spanish & French to say the least. I am sure there others, but my memory isn't that good:eek: impressive to say the least IMO:D:D

If the papers are are all gone, just ask the Front Desk and they will gladly print more copies.

On the Volendam this month it was delivered to our door daily after a request of the front desk.

Last spring on the Ryndam we asked for delivery, but were unable to get reliable service.

Note about the free NY Times on-line-----if you are accessing the internet from your own PC, you will be limited to 10 articles "free." There is a 99 cent 30 day trial offer which you can use to gain unlimited access. Be sure to cancel before the 30 days are up or the price skyrockets.

If you use the ship's computers, I assume there is no limit on the articles you can read.

On our Noordam cruise in Sept/Oct we were able to have it delivered daily. We were under Code Red the entire 20 days so otherwise they were only available behind the Front Desk. It probably was easier for them rather than having everyone who wanted one lining up at the Front Desk. We requested and received all 4 English language papers each day, although the Australian paper came out in the afternoon I believe.

.... Darned if I'm setting my clock for 8 AM on a cruise just to get a 4-page mini paper. ....

Different strokes and all that, but by 8 a.m., I have slept in really late (5:30 if you can imagine!), gotten coffee and sipped it while watching sunrise from the balcony, walked 2-3 miles on deck, showered, eaten breakfast, and had a frou-frou coffee from the Explorations Cafe ... where I determinedly walk past the display of the NYT, Canadian, etc., because I go on cruise to get away from all that nonsense. (I live in the suburbs of Washington, D.C., easily the most self-important snotty city in the world, whose main industry is hot gas.)

O.K., I admit that DW tries the NYT puzzle ... but only after she has finished the sudokus. We sometimes check the weather, hoping the folks back home are freezing :D. But, while on cruise we DON'T want to know the latest outrage perpetrated by our mis-Representative and mal-Senators in Congress.

But, to get off my rant -- it's been hit or miss, and more miss lately whether they deliver them to the cabin mail slots.

Rant back on: (Not that the NYT has a scintilla of credibility. Neither does the Washington comPost, but at least they have good comics).

If you can't readily find a copy of the Times, just go to the front desk. If asked they will print one for you. If someone says that they can't print a copy, ask to see the supervisor and you will have your copy of the paper.
