GadgetRick Posted April 12, 2013 #1 Share Posted April 12, 2013 Nice to relax and smoke a cigar outside. Is that permitted? Is it permitted anywhere on the ship? Thanks.
LiMurr Posted April 12, 2013 #2 Share Posted April 12, 2013 Every cruise line has different rules for smoking. On Norwegian, you can smoke cigarettes on the balcony, but cigars and pipes are limited to the cigar lounge.
CruiserBruce Posted April 12, 2013 #3 Share Posted April 12, 2013 Looks like you are on Carnival. Best to ask this on the Carnival board, here: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=215 As every cruise line's policies may be different, identifying the cruise line, and ship, would help us help you. Rare Keith1010 Posted April 12, 2013 #7 Share Posted April 12, 2013 Yes, best to ask on the Carnival Cruise Line Board. Also, if you just access the Carnival's own internet site and search under smoking it will address cigar smoking. Keith

beachbum53 Posted April 12, 2013 #10 Share Posted April 12, 2013 I am pretty sure Carnival will not allow cigar smoking on the balcony. Yes, Carnival does allow smoking a cigar on your balcony (but not in your cabin). However, it may cause some non-smokers to complain, just as they do about people smoking cigarettes. I wouldn't smoke in the cabin and, if someone complained, I'd gladly not smoke a cigar on the balcony (I know it's close quarters). Thanks again everyone! paul929207 Posted April 12, 2013 #14 Share Posted April 12, 2013 I hope smoking isn't allowed on any balcony ---We like to enjoy our balcony also. If it is important to you, you should check the cruise line's policy BEFORE booking. OP indicates he would not smoke if someone complains. Other smokers may feel they have selected a ship because they are allowed to smoke and not be so quick to refrain.
Cruising Golfer Posted April 12, 2013 #15 Share Posted April 12, 2013 Yes, cigar smoking is allowed on balconies. Remember you paid your fare just like everyone else. Don't let others keep you from enjoying yourself, if smoking offends you go somewhere else. Come to Las Vegas and visit a casino. Leave people to their vices and keep it to yourself!!! P.S. GadgetRick Posted April 12, 2013 Author #16 Share Posted April 12, 2013 Didn't mean to start a smoking/no smoking thread. :) I enjoy cigars a couple of times a month and while on vacation. As I mentioned, if it bothered someone, I'd not do it. I can understand.

As I mentioned, if it bothered someone, I'd not do it. I can understand. Although in most cases smoking is restricted because smoke may bother others, on ships there is a much more important reason why it is restricted: fire safety. The number one danger to ships is not sinking, or running aground or whatever mishaps we think of when we think of ship accidents, but fire. CraftyEC Posted April 13, 2013 #19 Share Posted April 13, 2013 If you look at post #229 on this (fairly lively!) thread about smoking there is a list of the smoking policies of many of the lines. It's not entirely accurate, in small details of locations, but will give you a broad picture of the lines' policies.
