Sailing on the Golden 2/01/2014...Any one know if they will broadcast the Superbowl or have a Superbowl party? Being from NYC, it will be held here on Feb2 the day we head out to sea. Would be cool to watch the game using MUTS.

We were on the Golden for Superbowl Sunday in 2011. They showed the game in public areas as the license they had from the NFL prohibited them from broadcasting to individual cabins. They had a Packer's rally party in the Explorer's Lounge. The Steelers' rally party was around MUTS We were in the Explorer's lounge where they had typical finger food available. All in all it was a great way to spend an afternoon.....:):):)

Bob,

We likewise were on Golden princess in 2012 and they did a very nice job in showing the game on the big screen as well as the lounges. They served typical Superbowl food (wings and such) and were very willing to get you beers. Expect them to do a great job. Some time back, the Grand did a fabulous job in getting the NCAA basketball semi's and finals broadcast from the caribbean.

You'll be sailing from Buenos Aires that day. Southern Hemisphere is sometimes a little goofy as far as getting TV coverage for US stations. That said, it is the Super Bowl and it tends to be broadcast all over the world. Maybe you'll hear it in Spanish. I once watched this game in England at 2AM with British commentators. Boy was that different.

Hope they don't have muster drill during the game.

On Feb 2nd you will be sailing from Montevideo, which will be 2 hours ahead of NYC on Feb 2. So, the Superbowl will be aired around 8PM. They will show it providing they can pick up the signal. It will most likely be on ESPN International, and should be in English, but it may be in Spanish.

Interesting when watching you get the "national' commercials, but during the time allocated for local commercials you get a steady view normally of the field and you can sometimes hear the commentators going over their plans for replays etc.

When we have been onboard Princess during the Superbowl, all national and local commercials were eliminated.

I stand by my original post. They sail from Buenos Aires to Montevideo on Feb 2 though I believe the time zone is the same.

Agree with beg3yrs. Ship will be making the big "U" turn from BA to Montevideo at 8PM.

Caribill, We were on the Grand in the Caribbean this past January on the 12th, 13th, 19th and 20th. Each of those days we watched the NFL playoff games and we did get some national commercials and not the local commercials. I guess I just assumed the Superbowl would be run the same way, and that the satellite would pick up the entire national feed including commercials. In any case it is interesting to see and hear the "nothing", kind of like being at the game, and watching the TV ref on the field.

Playoffs 2011 on the Ruby.

Sailing away from Ft. Lauderdale, with the sunset, and the game on MUTS was the most awesome thing ever. The following week I got to see my Packers play on MUTS again - because the next week's game was on Saturday. Two games on the same cruise, and we won both of them :D

There were lots of passengers wearing Packers jerseys and I ended up watching both games with two very nice couples from Madison.

We were on the Island several years ago sailing in the south Caribbean during the Super Bowl. We watched on the Lido deck on MUTS along with a lot of other pax. They set up a big food spread on the Lido deck with chips, dip, hot wings and other finger food. They were selling buckets of beer along with the usual bar drinks. I understand they were also showing it in the theater. The national commercials were there but the local ones were not so we had periods of nothing being broadcast. Broadcast was in English.

We were on the Grand in 2008 for the SB and they showed it on MUTS, The Universe Lounge and the sports bar. My son and DIL had saved a table for 6 on the upper deck opposite MUTS for all of us but it was very windy and chilly even in the Caribbean.

Ended up watching it in the Universe Lounge where they had a big spread of finger (bar) food for snacking and of course the bar was open. Picture was great and there were no commercials.

In 2009 we were sorry that we weren't on a cruise as the Bears were in the game that year!

We were on the Star last year and saw the Super Bowl in the Princess theatre. We were off the coast of Chile and could have watched it on MUTS but it was rather blustery that night and we chose stay inside. It was formal night so you had men in tuxes and folks in sweats all watching the game together and cheering loudly. They have a square pool in the casino and I won the final score which actually seemed unlikely until the final minute.

This year we were in Tasmania on the Diamond and the game was on Monday morning. Since we were in port, we missed most of the game but when we got back, it was on MUTS as well as in the Vista Lounge. The next day we were at sea and they replayed the game on MUTS for those who missed it which was a nice touch.

So yes, you won't miss a thing and Princess really does it up right!

My gosh, I would love to experience this.

Do they not generally play it on the movies under the stars screen? (I thought I read this somewhere).

Yes, it's be on MUTS (Movies Under The Stars)! :)

Normally, they will ALSO be showing it places inside which is nice for those who don't want to be outside.
