Day91 Posted November 13, 2013 #1 Share Posted November 13, 2013 After our first (Crown) Princess sailing several years ago, I noticed that for some reason it was being counted as two cruises. It wasn't a suite or early booking, but no big deal, I thought, I'd like to sail Princess again but who knows. Then came the Ruby and CB, and now just back from the lovely Royal. So now I see I've made Platinum. OK, I'm the guy who takes 50 cents back to the grocery checker the next week because he received too much change. But with this Platinum "membership", it just doesn't feel the same. I don't think the perks are that significant, and I can just see myself getting into a "no good deed goes unpunished" kind an administrative run around. But I want to do the right thing, at least in a collective Cruise Critic opinion kind of a way. Any thoughts?
waltd Posted November 13, 2013 #2 Share Posted November 13, 2013 IMHO do absolutely nothing except maybe spend a few more dollars on board. Now that you have a few perks from Princess they have you hooked. Me thinks it was done on purpose. :) Probably is more trouble then it's worth to have fixed. BUT you are the one who has to decide. paul929207 Posted November 13, 2013 #3 Share Posted November 13, 2013 I would do nothing, but enjoy the internet minutes on your next cruise. BTW Were you sailing solo on your first cruise? If so, you would get two cruise credits if it was after they started giving the second one. That would make you legit Platinum
sminfiddle Posted November 13, 2013 #4 Share Posted November 13, 2013 I'm also a take-back-50-cents Boy Scout, but it is Princess' discretion who gets which designation in the Captain's Circle. They have promoted people on the basis of a B2B that was bookable as one-or-two cruises. And there's nothing wrong with that. In this case, I think if Princess says you are something, that's what you are, by definition.

It was our fifth cruise, after which we would be platinum. After checking in, my husband's card was silver. We enjoyed his platinum status and since that date he has always shown one more cruise than I have (No, he never cruised without me! really!) we have now both been Elite for several cruises. Yes, he got there first. You did nothing dishonest so enjoy your perks and know you are one step closer to that fabulous black card!

But I want to do the right thing, at least in a collective Cruise Critic opinion kind of a way. Any thoughts? Princess can reward people in whatever manner they choose. For instance, would you object to being assigned a cabin that would cost you more had you booked it initially? Probably not, as this is their choice. There could have been a clerical error in that initial cruise Captain's Circle entry, or it could have been any one of several perks that are given to passengers. Or you could be Platinum if you've sailed 50 days. The big benefits of monetary value are insurance upgrade, which you now have as Ruby status, and the internet package. Princess gives the internet package away free to somewhat over 1/3 of their passengers each cruise as part of the loyalty benefits. None of us, however, are your conscience (or a Higher Being). If you think that there may have been an error which you would unfairly benefit from, then call the Captain's Circle desk at 1-800-PRINCESS Monday-Friday 8:00 am – 5:30 PST pm. or email at captainscircle@princesscruises.com. It could be that changing the status is more work than benefit, especially if you have another cruise booked or pending, so the Captain's Circle rep will just leave the status the way it is, in which case it is their business decision for customer satisfaction, and not something to bother your conscience about. Most companies today will err in favor of customer satisfaction as that is what generates product loyalty.

azcruiser64 Posted November 13, 2013 #9 Share Posted November 13, 2013 If you'll take 50 cents back to a grocery checker and you really want to do the "right thing" then you only have one choice. Contact the Princess Captain Circle Desk and explain the situation.
Thrak Posted November 13, 2013 #10 Share Posted November 13, 2013 People who cruise solo in a room always get double credit for the cruise. I've cruised twice and so has my son but he books a cabin to himself and he has 4 cruise credits whereas my wife and I only have 2 for the same cruises. TorontoTL Posted November 14, 2013 #11 Share Posted November 14, 2013 I wouldn't do anything except as others have suggested, make a few purchases on board. You will only be one cruise ahead so no big deal. You would have been a platinum the next cruise anyways. The free internet is a pretty significant benefit. Day91 Posted November 14, 2013 Author #13 Share Posted November 14, 2013 OP here again; thanks for your courteous and informative replies. To keep things interesting, I've emailed Princess at the Captains Circle address given earlier in this thread. Rather than repeating the details, I gave them the link to this discussion and my membership number, and told them I'm the thread originator. So, not that's is so important to anyone, but this whole thing can play out almost within the confines of one CC thread, and I'll come back with any updates. Thanks again. DrivesLikeMario Posted November 14, 2013 #14 Share Posted November 14, 2013 (edited) I know someone who's CC membership is wrong too - in this person's favor. For some reason, this older gentleman has many more cruises than his wife and yet, she has cruised more with Princess than he has. I told him to avoid the hassle and confusion and accept it. It doesn't change his level but it irks the wife! :D Edited November 14, 2013 by DrivesLikeMario

If the former and you booked it as a single cruise you can, and should be, credited for 2 cruises. I have a couple of those. Rare geoherb Posted November 14, 2013 #19 Share Posted November 14, 2013 Who knows how Princess's computer work. For several years they assigned me a wife (Jane) in all the brochures we received. One rep said he couldn't do anything about making the change unless she contacted them to remove her name from the mailings. I was almost tempted to have a female friend call and pretend to be her, but it did not matter enough to do that even though the 10 or so cruises I'd taken at that time had all been with the same person--my partner. I finally talked to another rep recently who said it was no problem having the nonexistent person's name removed from the mailings and to add my husband's name. I received mailings with her name for three or four more weeks until the most recent one that came last week with his name finally on it instead of Jane. Day91 Posted November 14, 2013 Author #20 Share Posted November 14, 2013 OP again, obviously no word back yet. Just wanted to thanks the sleuths who have suggested reasons for the double cruise credit, but none of your fine ideas is applicable to my case. Those who mentioned "spousal discrepancies", that has been our situation, as my wife has at times shown one fewer cruise than I. In fact, with this whole Medallion/Ruby tier, she has appeared to move in and out of this membership, as on our previous cruise her luggage tags read "gold" while mine were ruby or medallion or whatever usage was in effect at that point, yet our cards were both of the higher tier. I realize this is all fun; oh to have such problems!

JPEvans Posted December 17, 2013 #22 Share Posted December 17, 2013 I just got off the Royal Princess yesterday, I got a Platinum pin And welcome letter in my cabin. This was my 4th Princess cruise. Solo cruisers get two cruises credited per cruise (number of days is just number of days).
