We will be on Royal in January 2015 when Regal will meet her sister. Do you think they will allow us Royal passengers to go over and visit Regal.?

What an opportunity that would be! We are doing B2Bs so will still be booked passengers if that helps with any security issues..

From past experience when 2 sisters were in port we have done this on 2 different lines. In my opinion it's a great marketing tool..

Princess has a no visitor policy so I would say no.

Shana51 -

With seven ships in port that day they'll most likely not allow guests aboard who aren't either embarking passengers or are registered for a Bon Voyage Experience.

What you could do is call Princess Cruises later in the summer and see if a BVE is offered for that date and pay the $39pp, spend several hours aboard after getting on the ship before those new embarking passengers, have lunch, and get your 'official' Regal Princess picture taken aboard as well.

:D

Thanks Dmwnc1959,

That's a good idea, I'll make a note to check it out later this year. I have no experience with a BVE...are we with a ship staff member to show us around. Are we let loose on our own at all? How long can we stay?

I love this board, so much valuable information!

Thanks to everyone - especially Dave - for these update, photos and more.

We'll be leaving in a few hours for the airport, and will arrive in Venice tomorrow. Can't wait to board the Regal on Tuesday!

I will endeavour to post a photo of the new 'pool' to this thread as soon as possible after boarding :D If there are any other specific requests or questions that I an answer once on board, just let me know, and I'll do my best.

This request is going to be easier said than done........

Could you find someone staying in an aft balcony (D4) and ask about the soot (or hopefully lack thereof) situation.

Also, how windy is it (again, hopefully not at all) by the retreat pool?

Haha.. you're right, that could be a bit tricky. But our cabin is near the aft, so we may be able to casually enquire if we see someone coming from one of the aft cabins - we will try!

I can definitely report back on the wind. My son and I enjoyed the Sanctuary and the retreat pool on the Royal last New Year's, but it was fairly windy at times. My husband and I will definitely be checking that area out again on the Regal, and I'll report here.

It will probably be windy on some days even with adjustments on the Regal. We had to leave the Fountain pool area on Royal as well as the Retreat pool on a very windy day also.

Keeping our fingers crossed that we'll get lots of pictures and reports from everyone over the next several weeks, yourself included! Hope you have a wonderful (albeit a very busy) cruise!!!

:D

Thanks Dave! Hoping all will go smoothly. Took an upsell from an obstructed view on Emerald to a mini suite on Aloha! Had an email last night that our airline crew may go on strike the day we were to depart so now we're flying to Venice on the 28th instead of the 30th. Will have more days to relax before the cruise :)

Can't wait to see the first interior ship photos from those sailing before us!

If you haven't read the thread from the Royal's TA which discusses the soot problem, here's the link:

I'm VERY aware of the Royal's soot problems.

We stayed in an aft balcony on her in February.

They've raised the height of the stacks on the Regal and so I wanted to know if that alleviated the problem or not.

I read your link. It seems there might not have been a problem with soot on that particular cruise (we didn't have too bad of a problem on ours, either) but it is totally dependent on wind direction!

The solution (hopefully) on the Regal will be in any kind of wind.
