Lizzie68 Posted January 2, 2016 #2976 Share Posted January 2, 2016 It could be a down under thing... Carnival Legend has different smoking area plans whether it is down under or not. Sailings from Oz have no interior smoking areas, including the Casino. If Noordam is sailing out of Australia then local regs about smoking might be in force so the Oak room would be non-smoking. You are right, it could actually be according to where she is sailing from. But I have to wonder why. But, time will tell when she is relocated back. freestyling Posted January 2, 2016 #2977 Share Posted January 2, 2016 Clearly, "most" is not "all" (for evidence, just read back a few posts). And without "all" being in agreement, my statement will hold true---crabbing about the HAL smoking policy, and this thread, will continue. I will bet my cruise budget on it. MMMM.. But would you bet your chocolate budget
Maria2Madea Posted January 3, 2016 #2978 Share Posted January 3, 2016 I am one willing to only cruise with HAL as long as I can smoke on my verandah:) Joanie Same here! We sailed on HAL for the first time this year due to being able to smoke on the balcony. We have another cruise planned for the same reason next year. Due to the amount of $$ spent onboard we received extra points in addition to the double points for booking a suite. Works for us!! We're also sailing HAL for the first time. 35 days on Westerdam After spending roughly 87 days in the Caribbean in one year, we jumped ship when CCL and NCL banned smoking on the balconies. I do hope my neighbors are smokers so I can enjoy cruising once again. I would love to quit, but I haven't yet. Nice to know I still have a choice on the balcony. Had no idea HAL still allowed smoking on balconies! We've found our new cruising home for as long as it last. :)

deliver42 Posted January 3, 2016 #2980 Share Posted January 3, 2016 Personally, I do smoke. While I like it on the balcony, it wouldn't be a deal killer if they stopped it. I just hope they would find a comfortable place for us. I just got of the Serenade of the Seas. RCCL doesn't allow smoking on the balconies but, at least on that ship, they had 2 smoking areas protected from the weather. That would be completely acceptable to me. Rare Tom-n-Cheryl Posted January 4, 2016 #2984 Share Posted January 4, 2016 Actually, you can see a gap in our cruising via my signature. Once we found out HAL had not banned smoking on balconies, we booked a cruise. We found out last week and book a cruise ASAP. Sorry I confused anyone. No worries - have a GREAT cruise !! :) Tom
Maria2Madea Posted January 4, 2016 #2985 Share Posted January 4, 2016 No worries - have a GREAT cruise !! :) Tom Thank you! Sometimes, I think when a smoker shows up, people are a little harsher than they would normally be. I guess that's understandable. I seldom post on here and my verbiage may have been lacking due to my excitement of this awesome cruise. When we booked the cruise, I saw this topic and looked for info on where else smoking was permitted besides my balcony. I also said I hoped I would have smokers next to me so that way I would be certain I was not bothering my neighbors. After reading the thread, I can sense that loyal HAL non-smokers are worried that smokers will be flocking to their ships. I understand that and at the same time I am happy that I have a new cruise line for as long as it last. I see lots of smokers complaining all the time and wondered why they didn't do what I did. Just quit cruising. People want their voices to be heard but aren't willing to boycott that which offends them. Trust me, I really do get it. And, I truly want to quit smoking more than any non-smoker could ever imagine. One day. Until then, it's nice when people with opposing views can be civil to each other. I do my share of obnoxious sneezing with people who bathe in perfume. Especially in confined spaces. So, yes, I really do get it.

Good luck to you. And no one wants to stop smokers cruising, it's just the balcony thing. If there was only a way to stop us having to share your smoke everyone would be happy.:) And I speak as a formal chain smoker, BTW. Enjoy your cruise. travelers07 Posted January 19, 2016 #2987 Share Posted January 19, 2016 Not looking for anyone's opinion just an update. HAL's itineraries look like they fit our timing for the future but we really do not want our balcony to smell of smoke. And yes we have tried non-balcony cabins but do not enjoy them. Are there any future plans to change the smoking on balconies policy? Thanks.
RuthC Posted January 19, 2016 #2988 Share Posted January 19, 2016 Are there any future plans to change the smoking on balconies policy? Nothing has been publicized that I have read. I am sure if something was scheduled to change, it would be posted here.

Don't listen to comments that suggest you work in tandem with your smoking neighbors so they schedule their smoke times. In a million years I would not have the nerve to ask someone not to smoke where it is permitted.
travelers07 Posted January 19, 2016 #2991 Share Posted January 19, 2016 Thanks for the info. Thought maybe I had missed something. I agree about talking to neighbors- if it is allowed there is nothing that can be gained from that. We loved our Antarctica last year- one nice thing was no smoking when your are in the Antarctic waters. No eating outside either but that didn't matter as it was too cold! :)

Lizzie68 Posted January 20, 2016 #2997 Share Posted January 20, 2016 and 150 pages seems like they keep beating the dead horse. There is one single thread which is why so many posts and pages. Way better than hundreds of different threads every time someone wants to ask a question or offer an opinion. Also, policies change along the way, so better to keep everything in one place;).
