Hi everyone!!! My mom is going on her cruise tomorrow am with my two aunts .... she's wondering about the casino and if any of the slots pay good !!! Please let me in on some tips to tell her !! (Other than keep your money .... ha ha!!)

Thank you!!

Our cruise critic slot pull put in $465 in the Wheel of Fortune machine and got back $161. We had one spin. After we quit one of the ladies did hit the same machine for $500. My experience is that the machines are a lot tighter than those in Vegas.

Hi - I am sailing on the same cruise - can't wait to get out of the cold Chicago area weather (and away from the Bears - ugh!!)

As to the slots? Forget about it. Years and years ago I used to win on occasion on Celebrity. In recent years, I have only sailed on one cruise (out of many) where I came out a few bucks ahead. The slots are definitely tighter than Las Vegas, or even the casinos around here. My suggestion is to consider it entertainment only, and as always only bring what you are comfortable losing, as you most likely will. There is a fairly decent selection from pennies to dollars (maybe higher - I never would look at those). There are some multi-play poker machines but sadly they usually don't have my favorite, video keno, turned on.

And why would one consider them otherwise. Not a lot of competition. Of course they'll be tight.

I hit $750 on the Wheel of Fortune $1 machine...of course I probably lost it sometime later on the roulette table :p

Gambling is ENTERTAINMENT, if you go into for any other reason you will be sorely disappointed. If you win GREAT! If you lose, did you have fun, kill a few hours with friends and drinks...then money well spent :)

  • 2 weeks later...

As an ex-croupier I can tell you the house always wins!! In the end anyway. Only take what you are willing to lose and if you go home with any money - you are a winner!! Breaking even is a win in any casino or on any track. The odds are stacked in the favour of your host. Have fun and expect to lose, anything else is a win. Happy punting!!;)

craps is a better bet than slots, especially on a ship where slots will be tight.

Agree, but I recall that they only permit single odds so that the overall bets still favor the house at a higher percentage than if you were permitted multiple odds.

Last cruise I won over 3k on a penny machine 2nd night, spent about $1500 back, winning some along the way. I am getting a good chunk of money from the casino when we sail this Feb. Hope to do the same this cruise (which part of was paid for by the last cruise)!

#1 myth of slot machines, they do not have the ability to change the slots

Not really...

1. They do have the ability to change the payouts, but it involves changing out the microprocessors in each machine.

2. That said, they have no need to do so as a 90% payoff over millions of dollars played makes it unnecessary.

Trying to make a point that they can't just change the payouts as many believe. The workers in the casino can't change the payouts. You are correct that they have to change the microprocessor but it is not something that is done because it is almost as costly as buying a new machine. That is not something the average worker in the casino has anything to do with. Their payouts range generally from about 80% to 98% depending on the macine.

That would be disappointing. I think Carnival had double odds last year, not sure. I'll be on Eclipse in one week and will know for sure!

The odds at single odds are 0.8% house edge - pretty small, but not as good as triple odds (0.5%). No odds is a house edge of 1.4%.

Seriously? If you're hoping to hear something like "oh yeah, the 3rd machine from the end, by the 2nd blackjack table pays out...." forget it. If any particular machine(s) actually paid out better than others everyone would soon know and it'd be no secret. ;)
