Rare Turtles06 Posted July 5, 2015 #27 Share Posted July 5, 2015 They are not far enough out to open the casino and shops, correct? They are still in NY Harbor, hadn't even passed under the Verrazano Bridge.
bob brown Posted July 5, 2015 #28 Share Posted July 5, 2015 There hasn't been any posts on the CC roll call for this cruise....last entry was at 0916, so no one on board seems to be commenting on what they are being told....
Cindy Posted July 5, 2015 #29 Share Posted July 5, 2015 I hope it's a quick and easy fix. Reading this brings back bad memories from a couple years ago of anxiously reading reports about what was going on with the Millennium.
YYC F/A Posted July 5, 2015 #30 Share Posted July 5, 2015 Currently still stuck in NY area at entrance to Hudson - great view of Statue of Liberty and Lower Manhattan of the Port Side - some people would pay a lot to spend the night having dinner with that view ;) Regular updates from the CD but we're still stuck and anchor is down. Been 2.5 hours so far....

YYC F/A Posted July 5, 2015 #35 Share Posted July 5, 2015 (edited) You are on board? What has the CD been telling you? Thanks for sharing with us.... Had two updates from CD. Right now "entertainment and onboard activities will continue as planned" but no further updates other than that "engineering team is working hard on the issue". Some people are on twitter venting and getting angry, but really, why?!? We're on a beautiful ship, with GREAT crew, and ya know, sometimes **** happens - make lemonade folks! Off to dinner... at least we'll make sure we get one Celebrity dinner in, no matter what happens! ;) Edited July 5, 2015 by YYC F/A
chengkp75 Posted July 5, 2015 #36 Share Posted July 5, 2015 She's in the Stapleton anchorage, and can stay there as long as desired, it is a designated anchorage within NY harbor. Azipods cannot be inspected while in use, so if there is a problem with one, it needs to be shut down to allow an engineer to enter. Also, if one pod goes out while in a US harbor, the ship is required to notify the USCG due to the loss of the pod removing any redundancy in steering with only one pod in service. If repairable, it will need to be repaired and the USCG will inspect before allowing the ship to continue down the harbor. This is essentially what has happened to Maasdam in Boston, losing one steering gear. If the pod is not repairable, the ship can still proceed to sea, but the USCG will require a tug to escort the ship all the way to the Ambrose light. After that, the ship's class society will have the final say as to how, when, and where repairs are required to be completed. If the pod stays out of service for a while, and the ship can keep up a modified itinerary, they will have to have the tug escort every time the ship enters and leaves a US port. Rare uktog Posted July 5, 2015 #37 Share Posted July 5, 2015 Sounds like what happened to Summit in Halifax last year, exactly the same, just going out of port We got fixed in 12 hours hope you guys do to!

You have a great attitude on this...I hope you can spread it among your shipmates. What do some of them want? Return to the dock and go home? If they get the problem fixed, the Summit has ample capability to recover a lot of lost time enroute to Bermuda....
NauticalSmile Posted July 6, 2015 #39 Share Posted July 6, 2015 The radio just announced a real sighting by the bridge
Fish Lover Posted July 6, 2015 #40 Share Posted July 6, 2015 This reminds me of when the Summit was rerouted last summer due to a hurricane warning for Bermuda. Passengers were irrate. I don't know what they wanted. Would they have preferred to have their lives endangered? Things happen. It's not as though they've run out of food, running water or toilets. That would be a disaster. I'm sure they will be under way soon and will make up the time.
luv-2-cruise Posted July 6, 2015 #41 Share Posted July 6, 2015 I just heard on the marine traffic radio that they were going to be picking up anchor and going back to the berth.

bob brown Posted July 6, 2015 #43 Share Posted July 6, 2015 In case anyone didn't hear that last radio transmission, the pilot advised Traffic that they were weighing anchor, and returning to the dock, strait in....
Glendakayself Posted July 6, 2015 #44 Share Posted July 6, 2015 I hope the engineers can get her running soon with a a smooth journey the rest of the way.
Rare ghstudio Posted July 6, 2015 #45 Share Posted July 6, 2015 Apparently those on board weren't told about the itinerary change....an added overnight in Bayonne.....having taken a cruise from Bayonne and being familiar with the area, I'd say that the first step to enjoying a night in Bayonne is leaving it :) Also, and relative to other posts on various topics.... please remember that celebrity can change any cruise, port, itinerary at any time. I have previously joked about serving only peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for every meal as being OK per the cruise contract.....in this case, staying in Bayonne or the NY harbor for the week is equally OK. I do hope that they fix the problem quickly and that it is something that's a one time problem...not the beginning of some more serious problem effecting many more cruises. Hopefully the folks on board are enjoying themselves, without the casino which must remain closed...but I'm sure the liquor is flowing and the food is abundant. midwestchick Posted July 6, 2015 #46 Share Posted July 6, 2015 (edited) She left Bayonne about a half hour late....thought I heard a whale was seen in the water????? Thoughts with everyone on the ship....hope they get the problem fixed. I'm pretty sure the "liquor is flowing".....;) Edited July 6, 2015 by midwestchick
ChucktownSteve Posted July 6, 2015 #47 Share Posted July 6, 2015 (edited) I've been monitoring the NYharborwebcam. On the audio feed, I heard that Summit has a problem with one of the azipods. It has asked for permission to berth in the channel. We'll see what happens. I can't imagine why anyone on board would be upset. They have food, drink and entertainment. They get to do TWO sailaways. Sounds like a reason to party to me. :D Regarding the closed casino. No biggie. X is known for it's extremely bad payouts. lol Edited July 6, 2015 by ChucktownSteve
bob brown Posted July 6, 2015 #48 Share Posted July 6, 2015 Fortunately, the Liberty of the Seas is not due back at Cape Liberty until the 11th, in case they need to stay there for a while...
hansolosmom Posted July 6, 2015 #49 Share Posted July 6, 2015 If they're stuck in NY for the week, maybe they could set up excursions to the Jersey shore.:D Seriously though better to have the problem here than out in the Atlantic. Hope they get some time in Bermuda.
Boytjie Posted July 6, 2015 #50 Share Posted July 6, 2015 (edited) The Summit is in a great location to view the Macy's fireworks. Oops, that was last night! HAL's Maasdam was luckier in their unlucky situation of engine failure leaving Boston yesterday; they got to see the fireworks! Maasdam departed this afternoon.
